  1. I thought we were talking about visas, NOT extensions?
  2. The visa is not to be confused with an extension (that cannot go beyond the expiry date of a passport). Quite simply you carry the old passport (with the visa in) AND the new passport which has your latest immigration stamps in.
  3. You will be aware that you cannot open a U.K. bank account (Wise excepted) unless you are resident in the OK. Logic suggests that it is not a huge step to then review EXISTING accounts and - possibly - seek to close accounts of non-residents. I understand that the reason relates to increased regulatory requirements for such customers. I am not personally aware of any institution openly coming out and saying “off you go”. Nevertheless, I have always advocated maintaining a U.K. correspondence address……and at least one U.K. bank. Personally, I think you will be OK - but it may still be worth considering using a relatives UK address. At the last count I had active accounts with 4 banks, 10 different credit cards, with credit limits of £90,000, 2 Premium Bond accounts and I remain on the books of the local doctor. I have lived in Thailand for 16 years.
  4. I think you will find that the forum is anonymous…..
  5. I didn’t. I am an alien though, so I am not really resident here.
  6. How well do you think that approach will go? When the tail starts trying to wag the dog the outcome is rarely successful. They don’t give a flying fart about the customer - only that the customer ticks their regulatory boxes. Conform - or, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.
  7. Anything is valid with 2 witness "I bequeath all my residual assets after testimentory expenses to John Smith of 2 Acacia avenue." Only if there is anything complicated do you need professional advice Start off with....what have I got, who do I want to leave it to. Keep it simple.
  8. Really? Kasikorn bank, Jomtien issue them on the spot.
  9. But take 500 Baht with you……..just in case…..
  10. It is easy to get drawn in to sadness if you dwell on the loss, rather than focus on good memories you have of those people. Despite the inevitability of death, grief (and sometimes survivors guilt) is hard to deal with. Perhaps losing parents when I was 17 and 19 years old hardened me to 'boxing off' the loss of passing and concentrating on the memories. I still see funerals as a celebration of life rather than a mourning of death. The practicality of providing for loved ones makes it easier to view Will making as a living thing rather than a death thing. I have never seen it as being 'one foot in the grave'.
  11. Why sad? None of us get out of this adventure alive - estate planning is a sensible thing to do. I wrote my first Will when I was 21 years old; it is not about age, it is about ensuring that your wishes are set out correctly.
  12. If you have a problem maintaining the 800k you are buggered….words won’t help you, money might. The bank balance requirements are clearly set out in @Jingthing original post. Do not deviate from them - but don’t waste the effort of going back after 3 months to prove that you are complying. The letter is just an unnecessary piece of admin.
  13. The clue is - this is the Pattaya forum.
  14. I think that you overrate the role/abilities of a VfS clerk.
  15. You have a mirror? I wasn't wrong. Actually, neither were you - you just submitted one piece of unnecessary paperwork
  16. There is no risk........it is obvious - or it isn't.
  17. It is the correct answer.....................most people's appearance does not change that significantly over, say, 10 years. A friend had to have his countersigned because he had lost over 100lb and his face was half the size of 10 years earlier!
  18. No.....unless your appearance has changed significantly (ie can't be recognised) since the last renewal.
  19. No Giddy, I was looking in the right place - where the IO had inserted the date for me. Copy of passbook and passport ID page only.
  20. Could you please provide a reference for the highlighted quote above. My understanding was that the Civil and Commercial Code only provided 50% for the spouse class in most cases (unless there are no other classes of heirs). Section 1635. Surviving Spouse The surviving spouse is entitled to the inheritance of the deceased in the class and according to the division as hereunder provided: if there is an heir according to Section 1629 (1) surviving or having representatives as the case may be, such surviving spouse is entitled to the same share as an heir in the degree of children; if there is an heir according to Section 1629 (3) and such heir is surviving or has representatives, or if in default of an heir according to Section 1629 (1), there is an heir according to Section 1629 (2) as the case may be, such surviving spouse is entitled to one half of the inheritance; if there is an heir according to Section 1629 (4) or (6) and such heir is surviving or has representatives, or if there is an heir according to Section 1629 (5) as the case may be, such surviving spouse is entitled to two-thirds of the inheritance; if there is no heir as specified in Section 1629, such surviving spouse is entitled to the whole inheritance.
  21. Nevertheless, the evidence on the ground is that numbers are significantly up. Well below 2019 highs and thankfully no Chinese mass tourism.
