  1. I think going with the flow is a very good idea. Let the Thai family choose what they want and meet them in the middle about finetunung. I think us farangs spend too much money on houses here as our standard of living is reletively high in most western worlds.

After doing your homework, let a local part time rice farmer build theer house for around 500,000b as they will be well pleased living in a 500,000b house. The remaining funds can go on a lavish 'house party' for the whole village so that (for a few weeks) the family will feel like they are top of the (village) food chain.

  2. I use the same accountant as him and know he pays Thai tax, employs over 25 Thai workers who take care of over 25 Thai families, so with that in mind, I would safely say that the Thai registered company called Alan The Builder is 100% legitamate and as he has been successful here for quite some time, his reputation and the companies goodwill is something to be proud of.

Maybe a few members here are living in houses built by this company???

  3. Why in this day and age would you buy maps when they can be downloaded for free and unlocked so can use on any GPS unit.

That is not accurate information. I have a Mio 520c with ESRI/Speednavi mapping and they cannot be downloaded for free. Its 900b a time for upgrades.

Please use the web and search unlocked map V11.1 for Thailand it's from noeman.org I have the V11 download unlocked done by a friend. It work's in my Fortuner so it should and will work in all and a Camry.

To add your unit has to accept a SD card.

My unit can accept an sd card but what you suggest cannot be done. There are security measures to stop this, I have tried already.

  4. Thanks for the advice guys.

I already have a 'stand alone' GPS with speednavi but as I will be replacing the 2din unit in my new car anyway, I was thinking of selling the above GPS and getting a combined 'in dash' unit like a Kenwood/Alpine for instance.

    Which one, is the problem???

  5. Firstly, apologies for hijacking the thread!

I have been asked to teach Business English at a University. I have numerous TEFL qualifications including Business English together with 26 years experience in Banking where I completed many appropriate company training/business courses. I do not have a degree,

I would like advice as to weather I could successfully obtain a NON B under these conditions (probably visiting Laos).

    Thanks

  6. Hi

I want to upgrade the factory fitted 6cd player in my car and wonder if anyone can recommend through personal experience which unit/make to go for?

I like to play my music through an Ipod attached to the unit, like the idea of a larger screen (7 or 6.5ins) and with preinstalled GPS. I hear Speednavi maps are good for thailand???

Any advice or recomendations of units/shops will be appreciated

  7. I'm hearing you, no right or wrong answer.

That's a hell of a lot of car for 700 00 Baht I must say.

Let us know how you go.

    Regards

I ended up getting it cheaper than a 1.6 Fiesta. Car ready to be picked up when I have cash available in a couple of days time. I chose the orange colour because it seems to be a rare choice seeing as its not listed on the (outgoing) Fucus brochures or ford website.

My dealer has still got 3 others left too!
