  1. So, Arisara says that if you go to a coffeeshop you should only go for a coffee. But at the same time suggests that if you want anything else you should go to a massage parlour. I would think that the only thing one would expect there is a therapeutical massage. Coffee is coffee, massage is massage and sex is sex.

Yes, everything in Thailand is as clearcut as you suggest. Sorry, must go, my unicorn needs feeding.

  2. You are using the wrong meaning of the word Smash and trying to link it to Thailand's road accident statistics.

Smash as an adjective means: of, relating to, or constituting a great success:
That composer has written many smash tunes or the Beatles tune was a huge smash.   But yes many Asian bike names don't resonate with native English speakers

Native English speakers (of a certain age)would relate the name ‘smash’ to powdered mash potatoes & Silver aliens!

  3. In reply to "youreavinalaff" no I don't think I"m hard to please, I just enjoy my food, and if I don't like it I will always tell you. And as for saying that if you had to take some meat out of the "Burirampiemans" pies so that you could put a couple of tablespoons of gravy into them, then i think you are "avinalaff". If you slice the top off of one of his pies, then you will see that there is plenty of room inside to put a bit of gravy.  But although I am not a fan of his pies, I don't think that they are inedible, as are some of the pies that I have eaten in places like Bangkok and Pattaya, in fact I would say that his pastry is probably better than anywhere else in Thailand, it is just that for me his fillings are dry, or let's say to dry for me. I and will always say that his suet puddings are the best I have had in Thailand, and I would also recommend his mushy peas lol. And on one last point, I don't think that me asking a guy to change his recipe just to accommodate a couple of pies for me would be fair.

Santisuk, yes my comment about the meat and potatoes pies was a bit tongue in cheek, although i am now aware that there is a australian guy in Jomtien who is producing such pies, and i am told they are great, i think the shop is called "Tinnies", but as i don't really like Pattaya, I don't get down there much these days.

One last thing i didn't know that the "Farang Connection" had closed, but sad to see, and l'am also glad to know that "Starbeam" is still up and running. If i had the choice of buying a bar in Surin, then the one with the best location, but also the best layout would have been the bar facing the speed disco, I think it was owned by a belgian guy. It had a really good long bar inside, and plenty of room for tables and would have been ideal for a sport/music bar, sadly he had it full of cases of belgian food and you had to fight your way in past about a thousand plants outside the entrance. Anyway end of my rant, but thanks to all who have made this enjoable post.

Think your talking about N&N international Restaurant opposite Speed, Surin. That has also closed down, Nobbie has gone back to Nong Khai and it’s been reopened now by another Farang.
Santi - agree about the Tex-mex at outside inn. It’s actually on par with Starbeams incidentally IMO.

  4. Resorts can be as different as hotels on a main-land. I went to Rasa Fushia and loved every minute of it. Please also note that from the main island (Male) some resorts use either speedboats or Seaplanes to ferry you to your island. That might be something you wish to consider in your requirements.

  5. Agree, but IMO hellyes2002 is right, if not ordered a Hawaiian Pizza, pineapple ( special with pepperoni ) is a no go or the pizzabaker has no idea about his job. Sorry

An Italian one or from elsewhere? 555

  6. Well sadly i have to report that firstly my friend was very underwhelmed with his pizza, as was I. As i said i took mine uncooked, tonight i put it into a hot oven, and usually 10 minutes or so, would see it perfectly cooked, but i could have left this in the oven for a couple of hours and i don't think that the base would have cooked, it was completely raw. And both my friend and myself asked the question of why would anyone who knows anything about pizzas, put pineapple on a pepperoni pizza. i think i have only ever had pineapple on a hawaian pizza. So i don't think that we will be returning to peters place, but maybe we will give the pizza at barco's a go.

Or maybe tell him what you want/don’t want on a pizza.
I know he does cater for the ‘unusual’. I once saw a guy have a ‘no tomato’ pizza there!!!!
Good idea to try Barco pizza. I have heard some good reports of them.

  7. Doesn't matter what they study. Their certificates of education, including IT, are practically worthless anyway. As someone else said they get a 50% pass mark and qualify just for turning up and handing in their paper.
The PM is at the ASEAN meeting at present and while there organising import IT specialists from India.
So much for quality Thai education.

    Do I read this right?
He’s at an ASEAN meeting and touting for business from outside of ASEAN?
    That’s logical!!!!

  8. Small jiffy bags, value under 40GBP never a problem. Value under 80GBP per parcel sometimes get thru.
Just had 50 quids worth of spark plugs (14)  and tab washers delivered - no tax nor customs. Once you're into cardboard boxes and values over these amounts virtually everything gets hit.
I speak from experience because I have stuff sent from the UK, Europe and the States regularly.
Worst one recently was 3 pistons valued at 279 quid inc P&P, got hit with 4200 Baht this end.

Send them to a government address (school/Uni/clinic/hospital) and they tend to remain unchecked.

  9. I can't see roundabouts working here on the places i see U turns..
    - often not enough room to construct one
    - on the main highways it would slow traffic down too much.
    - there are too many u turns to replace them all with roundabouts.. it would make it totally unworkable.

U turns like the new system are good, even better are the ones that go over the road and let cars enter on the slow lane (same goes for those going under the road)

I agree. Coming from the land that ‘invented’ roundabouts, they are only good if drivers understand who to ‘give way’ to. Where there is an ‘everyone for themselves’ attitude it’s a disaster waiting to happen IMO.

  10. Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum and don't currently live in Thailand but my wife and I have bought some land just outside of Udon Thani and are looking for some recommendations for a good builder. A basic drawing of what we are looking to build is attached.

What we are looking for is a western style, high quality build that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. So far we have talked to several builders and the prices are in a fairly wide range, so it's difficult to figure out how much a project like this is supposed to cost. If you need more information, I would be happy to provide it.

Go look at the builders projects and get feedback from customers. There are hundreds of farmers in Isaan who also call themselves Electricians/Plumbers/Builders. Would you use them in your country ? I thought so. Please remember that faults cost twice as much to rectify afterwards so choose wisely.

Lastly, if they are not busy, there might be a reason for it .

    Dave.

  11. germanys Merkel she is nuts!!

its like i tell all people in a bar " i invite you , your welcome i pay"...........
after the bill went bigger and bigger  i say " oh thats to
expensive, please we share the bill "everybody would tell " thats your thing ..."

thats what she did, without asking the parlment or the EU.  come here youre all welcome...and after problem get to big, she asked the other Eu leaders to help., what many refuses ..and thats understandable.

The Merkel is only lucky, that in Germany is a lack of alternative partys, so she stay in power. AFD the rightwing party is nothing , only troublemakers, if tehre would be a real alternativ she would be blown off

Shes on an EGO Trip " i invite refugees" , "i get out of nuclear power today", " i rescue europe" ., i......................

the bill is comming.. the end of niclear powernow the tax payer pays, bcs court reading said nearly illegal, the bill for the refugees comming, partly in crominal offenses and in costs ..........the tax payer pays, teh bill for financing europs banksits visable in traget 2 saldos , the end the taxpayer pays

and for froeign criminals we cuuld name the country  ..north africans, central africans, afghans and partly baltikum

but still to be europe  ( EU)is better than anything else,i still belive in the ideas and values of europe ( EU), but some polticians work hard on, destroying this ideas. Leaving the Eu is not solve any problems for those countrys, and i belive the EU will get greater and bigger within a time.

‘Greater and bigger’ does not necessarily ran better (USSR was big).

  12. In which case, deport them to the most likely country of origin.  I'm sure there are experts in language that can point the right direction.

But we then enter the 'originating country refuses to accept them'....  Far more difficult a problem, but (genuine question) how often does this happen?

    ‘Ditching their passports’ ?
    Very very often in UK.
