  1. Also, for reasons I don't understand, in Chiang Mia you can't get your re-entry stamp on the same day as the extension now. Makes absolutely no sense at all, but you have to go back the next day. Not sure about how long the queue is.

We travel a lot, so we get a re-entry stamp. Unless you are going to be leaving Thailand 5 or more times during the year, it would be a waste of money. 3,800 baht for a re-entry stamp, 1,000 baht at the airport immigration area (passport control) BEFORE YOU LEAVE for a single re-entry stamp.

As they are so fond of saying here, up to you.

I went to Promenada yesterday and asked if what you wrote is the current process. They replied that one CAN obtain both the extension and re-entry at the same time/day. Were you specifically "rejected" when you tried to obtain both on the same day? Details pls

  2. According to another police matter on another story about an influential person, the court refused to issue an arrest warrant on the basis that the individual was not showing signs of intention to flee from the police (but yet was refusing requests to be interviewed by the police for suspected crimes)....

So why was an arrest warrant readily issued for the "baggage handler" who was similarly not showing signs of fleeing Thailand jurisdiction?

  3. As IM obtains your bank info- limited to that bank data that supports the application & not ALL of your bank info you may additionally have- then there is not only no good reason to request it on another form YOU DON'T KNOW where this new form will be managed, stored, used, secured, etc. THE LESS one provides provides personal data the LESS opportunities there are for abuse, mis-use, etc

This is the whole document, courtesy of @Beefslapper on the previous thread. Hope he won't mind me reattaching it here.

A little concerned about handing over all my bank account details to thais. Is this because the bloody farangs complained about the police shakedowns that went viral and made the international news? Now they can just help themselves.

Every year when I renew my extension I hand over my bank details. So far no one has plundered my accounts.

"Is this because the bloody farangs complained about the police shakedowns ..."

Farangs have been complaining about everything under the sun for a long time. It's a cultural, maybe genetic, thing for some of us.

  4. I have a water storage tank (2000L) and I am asking about experiences with a filtering system that prevents/reduces sediment & chlorine before it enters the storage tank and then runs thru my pump on demand. The storage tank does not remove all of the sediment that is corroding water lines and faucet and shower head screens. Drinking water quality (I have already an in house filter system for this) nor water pressure is this issue.

  5. I've also visited a local company that my builder recommended and he's for a 2-phase system (removes sediment & chlorine) that is contained in a single tank that you would backwash to clean it from time to time..uses activated charcoal filtering...is this the type you have Rob?

  6. Craig is spot on for the troubles I am experiencing...I am having to clean faucet screens and water lines as well- the sediment has corroded some water lines that attach from the water lines coming into the house and where it attaches to a faucet that I have had to change those out...it's gotten so bad that it so clogged a water heater that it rendered it useless for about 5 days until the sediment that was blocking the flow inside the heater finally worked its way out. BTW, I live in MaeJo and we're experiencing water outages due to broken pipes so much that when the water is turned back on after the repair the sediment that were inside the unprepared water lines is driving that sediment into my water tank...I also noticed that over the last 2 weeks the chlorine levels are very very high and that I want to filter as well. I already have a filtering system in my kitchen for drinking water and ice making.

  7. I am considering installing the Master Model MP5 unit to filter sediment & chlorine from the city water before the water enters my water tank.

Does anyone have any experience with this unit and if so, how well does it perform and maintain?

Alternatively- if you have a current system that you are pleased with- or not- any details would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  8. The question remains. If someone knows if the duty free allowance is up to 10,000THB or was revised up to and now is 80,000THB then that info would answer the request. That is only what I'm asking

  10. The TAT website states:

Thailand customs allows visitors to enter Thailand with personal effects, the value of which does not exceed 80,000 Baht, without paying import fees as long as: 1) the items are specifically for personal or professional use; 2) the amount of goods are reasonable; and 3) the items are not subject to restriction or prohibition.

    The Thai Customs website states:

If you are bringing in with you the items with total combined value more than 10,000 baht, these items are subject to import taxes and duties. A flat rate of duty will be applied on the dutiable items provided that:

    The dutiable items are intended for personal use;

    They are at a reasonable quantity and not intended for commercial use, business, or trade purposes;

The total value is not exceeding 80,000 Baht; and

Passengers are able to pay taxes and duties in cash on the date of arrival.

So is duty free less than 10,000THB?

  11. I can remember it was already quite ok last year. Around CM I saw in those days nobody burning rice fields. And this year around my place rice is already planted. So no problem.

I like the 60 days ban. But it should be extended up to the whole year round...

  12. The people that have been following my posts will know that I mailed in my 90 day report and have not received an updated receipt in return. Yesterday after almost 3 weeks decided to visit the old immigration office and try my luck for a receipt.

Walked in there at 1.20 pm. Went up to the desk and explained to a smiling lady my situation. She seemed very sympathetic and I handed over my paperwork and passport. Then she handed it over to another lady, then the second lady handed it over to a third lady and told me to follow her and she lead me to 2 girls sitting next to the old officer with the glasses, the man that never looks anyone in the eye, and I thought, OMG NOT HIM! Then in trepidation my heart began pounding. The 2 girls took my passport and paperwork while interrupting an old American they were serving. The old man who looked like the grim reaper was going to claim him at anytime soon gave me dagger looks. After checking my paperwork and passport again the 2 girls handed over my paperwork to the officer with glasses. He was very busy heaps of passports and paperwork being thrown at him from left, right and centre. Then he threw my passport and paperwork onto a table behind him and ignored it. Then after 5 minutes another girl came on to the scene that I noticed was very beautiful, a stunner in fact that made my heart pound even faster, and she grabbed my paperwork. She then proceeded to put my passport through some sort of scanner checking my paperwork a dozen times over, while checking my passport photo and eyeing me up with suspicion at the same time. While all this was going on I watched carefully what was happening with the old American man being a few inches behind him. He had also mailed in his 90 day report but had no clue how to fill in his paperwork. He kept rehanding over his paperwork to the girls and still could not get it right. The officer was becoming brassed off with him and I thought please don’t wind the officer up until I have my receipt. Then it dawned on me that it’s people like him that are throwing spanners into the works of the system and maybe why the 90 day mail in has been discontinued, selfish pigs that should use an agency instead of gumming up the works. In my mind out of anger I was thinking, hope he dies soon. Don’t really mean that, just how I felt at the time.

Then the beautiful young lady gave the officer an approving nod. Then another lady approached me and looked at my paperwork. She asked me to sign all my photocopied passport pages. I signed the photocopies and she handed me back my paperwork, so why she asked me to sign them I have no idea. Then the officer with a disgruntled look on his face said I should not have mailed in my 90 day report. I responded with words something like, forgive me my lord for I have sinned. Then he issued an up to date receipt and stapled it into my passport. The whole process took 20 minutes.

ZAPPO, FINISHED – MAIL IN 90 DAY REPORTING HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED

    1. 90 day mail in HAS NOT been discontinued- there has been, to the best of my knowledge, any official announcement; only various conflicting posts from individual experiences.

    2. Signing the copies of passport pages, etc has always been the process- whether 90 days, extensions of stay, etc.

    3. As I posted earlier this week, I went to the AP IMM office to followup my mail in paperwork- I had to only provide my passport; it was scanned; then the slip was signed by the IO- he was friendly & polite and I was in and out in 5 minutes. He did not say that mail-ins were no longer allowed....

I was told by the official wearing glasses that 90 days mail ins are discontinued and I believe him.

Who was the same official my wife & I talked to...time will tell........

  14. We installed a powered double wide swing gate 2 years ago. We love it and after service support has been excellent- one time had to do a little grinding of the floor plate due to rubbing and the other time a much larger issue when one of the hinges pulled out of its' mount due to poor anticipation of the load/stress of the weight. But it was fixed promptly and well

  15. AFAIK the online 90 day reporting cannot be done for the first 90 day report following an entry to LOS. Does that apply to the postal option too? In light of the report by MaeJoMTB above, and the very recent success of a postal report, I'm tempted to try that as a first option for my next one.

No, it does not seem so. I have a new passport w/a new entry to LOS last October so this month was my first 90-day report. I mailed it in and picked up the new slip Monday (as I reported in this forum)
