As this thing has morphed into a 'conspiracy' thread, here's my take.
I have been following (after 2008 or so) various contrarian finance/economic sites.
The common thread is that the western financial system is insolvent
Ditto for most govts ,banks and many companies.
The gigantic stock exchange bubbles gave a false idea about the state of our affairs
The most common senario thrown around is that at some point there will be a 'reset'
The lie cannot continue forever...something's got to give
Enter the virus
It exposed all the inherent faultlines in the system and popped all the bubbles at once.
If they don't reset the system now, they'll never will.
Btw, that 5G thing is bunk
How do you explain the infections in countries that have no 5G?
My 2c
The virus can function without 5g but the 5g will act like a turbo charger....

And I believe that. He is a good guy, and seems honest. Anyone who contradicts Trump generally, is a person with integrity. Truth vs. deflection. And I am not advocating the avoidance of taking precautions. All I am saying is, that I tend to agree with this OP about the intentions of government and authority. That relates to any government, but especially this administration, that cannot be relied upon for fairness, decency, competence, talent, or honesty. Rarely is any governmental authority honorable and noble. A lockdown may have some wisdom at this moment. Maybe. Maybe not.
But there is no doubt we are seeing a massive over reaction over this. And there is no doubt, that the economic consequences will be infinitely greater than the death toll.
Millions will remain out of work for a long time to come.
Many will starve in nations like India, that do not have any real, or practical safety net.
I do not see Thai tourism EVER recovering to the extent it was before.
Will people return to the movie theaters like before?
Will people be willing to travel as much as before? Where will they travel to?
Will people return to restaurants, and dine out like they did before?
There are an infinite number of questions out there, and they all remain unanswered.
This is not the zombie apocalypse, and there is no doubt that the panic, fear and precautions being taken are out of proportion to the risk, by a ridiculous degree.

Social distancing is here to stay for much more than a few weeks. It will upend our way of life, in some ways forever.

Foolish.
The restaurants must be forced to close for dining in, and allow for take away only.
Decisions like this will just result in more cases of transmission, eventually leading to full shutdown. Better to move to full shutdown now.
Well if a full shutdown is going to happen any ways why not just keep open as long as possible...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rdJIle61EFY&feature=youtu.beI am pretty sure this was the only 7-11 that has ever been robbed in Chonburi in the last 20 years but a slight chance I might be wrong....

That's incredibly stupid to limit opening hours for shops where u can buy groceries (snacks etc.).
Because that means that people will be forced to shop at the same times.
And that means that the virus could spread because people are shopping at the same time.
If anything, they should make some kind of opening hours for people over 70 years of age, so they don't come into contact with the rest of the population.
But maybe it won't work here in Asia, since people stay together many generations, and the elderly don't go shopping anyway - they stay home and watch their grand kids.
I think stores like 7-11 should only be open between the hours of 8PM to 9PM for farangs 57 years of age.....I am not only thinkinking about myself......Its just pure coincidence that this is my age...

Interesting.
I'm convinced, and have been telling others this for a while, that no insurance company on the planet is selling cover for COVID-19 and that most existing policies containing 'known event' clauses either effectively void any claim after pandemic declared or at least provide insurer with a lot of wiggle room.
If i am incorrect in my belief, i'd certainly like to see some evidence of that and, if your insurer does indeed off COVID-19 cover, i am very sure many on TV would like to follow you.
Would you care to name your insurer* so that others can peruse their policy wording?
* i believe there is no TV rule to prevent you doing this
Sir the guys on Khaosan road will write you any policy you want and for a very reasonable price I might add.....

Maybe theres rumour that the Government may follow other countries leads and make landlords offer a 2 month moratorium on rent ?
Nah , doubt that would happen - lots of members of The Government are big time landlords themselves...
Maybe this is something somebodies wife just said ?
Some places like Seattle have banned evictions till the Corona is over how ever long that might be...

OP I believe that your analysis is correct. Some economies will not survive. The global economy will be wrecked and some kind of reset is inevitable to keep the show on the road. I don't know what form of reset that will be but I'm certain that personal freedoms are going to suffer as a result.
I do NOT expect to see governments, supported by the MSM, forcefully encouraging their citizens to boost their immune systems through diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and vitamin supplementation. I DO expect to see governments, supported (paid by) by Big Pharma forcing mandatory vaccination against coronaviruses.
Somehow out of this mess the global financial movers will take further giant strides towards forcing us into a cashless society. Developing countries like Thailand will try to hold out from that one as long as possible, but it is coming and this crisis will hasten its arrival.
So much more, but that's my two penneth for now.
Your on the right track here......Throw in 5g, smart citys, social scores bla bla bla it just goes on and on and on...

someone of influence is very reluctant to apply this general rule to all resturants - why ?
Does someone of influence own a lot of restaurants, why in Pattaya are they totally ignoring restaurants .......................why ??????????????
How are they different from bars serving beer
I could have gone out last night in Pattaya and got food and beer in many restaurants and sat there all night boozing - what the hell
So you would like to see all business closed down 100%.....Including grocery stores,7-11,gas stations.....Heck just close the hospitals down too.....Would this make you happy....
