  1. Look no further.

    Walen school of dance.

Yes krisb, it is a definite possibility. Lots of wonderful Thai women are looking for husbands and dance classes are a fun way to meet new people. There are also usually more women then men at dance schools. I also believe women are more attracted to guys who can dance as it shows their "soft side". Macho tough guys scare most of them away.

    more women THAN men

Let's hope you don't teach English as well !

  2. Hilarious.

A thai government pension is 500 THB per month.

Here is the answer to your question.

99% of old folks are in dire poverty.

Very little managed to save for old age

Only the one looked after by family, hence living with them, hence not a thief target, can live decently

Thai-Government pension MUST be higher than that, otherwise nobody would be willing to work for the "government" at lower wages than in private-industry during their lifetime. This must be a misquote.

    Cheers.

It's not just for government worker

It's THE pension for old people here

    Ask any Thai person

Every person of the age of 65 fitting the conditions of resources gets it

Aged pension of 600 baht a month is for those not covered by government pensions, private pensions etc In other words those in the cash economy. I have two Thai family members who started receiving the payments when they reached the age of 55. Detail on the Thai pensions system at:

    http://www.gpf.or.th/eng2012/about_thaipension.asp

Ooooh 600, they raised it !

Now Thai pensioners can go travel abroad on their fat checks

  3. I used to just go to the local barber little hole in the wall near where I lived and paid 60 baht. Not a tourist area, though. My friend and I would both go there and as we liked to do buzz cuts it lasted long enough for us!

My old girlfriend in BKK has owned a few hair salons for the last 10 years or so and one time when she cut my hair she said it was hard as she wasn't used to my hair. She was only used to cutting the hair of other Thais and I guess there is a difference, according to her. I suppose she's used to cuttign hair that's more straight, black and less complicated.

That could be part of the problem.

or the rice bowl they use to cut around :)

  5. My friends and family - and yes total strangers, including some I've met only online - have consistently helped me out during "down and out" periods of my life and I have returned the favor and will continue to do so, not only back to those that helped but "passing it on".

The Thais that I know in those groups can afford to do so much less than the farang ones, but I have to say both groups have been as generous as each other. And that includes those in the sex industry and even Thai-Chinese property owners as well.

The world you project - create - is the one you see, and (cue Louis Armstrong here) It's a Wonderful World. . .

is it not WHAT a wonderful world ?
    -

    It's not what it's not-what but what it's what-not. Or not.

    What?

    WHAT a wonderful world

  6. It is quite ironic that the children of the ministers and the MPs who push the public school system as sufficient, put their own kids into private schools. If they are so confident in their school system, they should go the way of Finland and nationalize all schools and give everyone an equal opportunity to tertiary education.

But to be fair, if the Thais had a great education system, I think most of us here would be out of a job ! biggrin.png

or most jobs would be forbidden by Thai government to farangs

  7. Have to say ... a warm thanks to the posters above ... thumbsup.gif ... I never knew this option existed.

The Farm Mother has diabetes ... though I don't know if the switch from white to brown would be beneficial .. nor possible given the deeply rooted Thai Culture, combined with the fact that she cooks for the entire Family ... such is life on the Farm.

That said, the gf is on board after testing and accepting Brown Rice.

You learn something new every day ... wai.gif

    .

yes and it's only 1300thb I love my panasonic rice cooker !

  8. The only good reason I can see for sending the family to school overseas is so that he can go out on the town every night. Otherwise, the additional cost would be better spent on a better school in Thailand, and as mentioned earlier by others, the best schools in Bangkok are the equal of the best schools anywhere

    -

Wouldn't go that far, at all.

Maybe this: the top handful of the IS in Thailand are definitely as good as "above average" among private schools back home.

The top private prep schools in the US - and I'm sure just as true in the UK and Oz - are as hard to get into as the top universities, only accepting 10-15% of applicants, most in the top couple percentiles in the nation, average-level students don't even bother applying.

Which means the learning process can move along at a much faster pace than normal schools where the teacher has to pace to the middle-level if not lower-level students.

They are not above average, it's only on paper

Sure they have higher grades averages, but it's easy when you select kids through money and academic and just kick them out when the grades are going down

  9. Laughable.... They may not offer hard cash, although it wouldn't surprise me, but they do leverage information out of people with offers of leniency, and much of their information will come from street level snitches who supply information on competing rackets to police protected dealers in return for drugs or money....

All bar very few stories in the thai news about drug busts start "acting on a tip off".

No trick to low, no method too devious. There is no length to which the Thai police will not go to make sure his weekly $$$ quota is met..... A Thai policeman told me that.

They are the biggest crims of the lot. Thailand's most shameful elephant in the room.

    scary !

  10. They get paid for grassing - simple!

    paid by whom ?

    Police.

There is no investigation work here ( or very little ), all ( or the majority ) of info comes from grasses.

It was advertised a while back that there was 10K for anyone who helped turn in drug dealers.

he's talking of drugs offenders already caught red handed by police

surely the cops are not gonna offer money to criminals

  11. I bought a pack in BigC the other day and it is really delicious, tastes 1000x better than the brown rice I would find back home.. I wonder why all thais only eat white rice when the brown rice tastes so good ?

How do you cook it in the rice cookers, given that it takes longer to cook?

get a modern rice cooker with a brown rice button !tongue.png

come on now ... you are pulling my chain ... blink.png

    show me a photo from a catalogue ... and I'm a believer!

  13. Seems to me that you are just opposing everything that people post today. Your points of view are clashing with each other across different threads. But I guess you only come to TV to be objectionable because your life is just so empty.

I am sorry that you put off so many people and now no one wants to write on your topicbut it's not a reason to come and chase me here.

    LOVE ?????????

    Nah it's too passionate

    can't last
