    You are making life complicated

I am also on an ED visa and report to CW every 3 months. The longest I have waited there is about one hour. Nothing could be simpler.

I believe you reside in Bangna. I'm in Bang Khae from where I take a couple of buses to CW. Waste a morning but not a day.

last time it took from 8am to 3.30pm

    - going there 2h - 10am

    - queuing for both queues of visa extension and 90 days report : 2h until lunch + 1h lunch + 1.5h queue (again)

    - 2h back

    After that you feel dead

    That's a day

  2. Have never heard of any such thing - the only extension for non immigrant visas/extensions without valid reason (not holiday) is 7 days not approved period to get out of Thailand.

Here is a picture of his passport page (minus the passport number)

He was between 2 ED visa extension after completing a 9 months course

The dates - from the 7th to the 29th - show an extension of 22 days granted

He told me they say it was a prorate of 30 days per year, as he only did 9 months, he got 22 days extension.

So he definitely got an extension of 22 days.

I am not sure as to what the proper name is but it does exists ...

Anyone knows how it's called ?

  3. Hello

My friend last year was a bit short of time to reapply for his student visa for a school, after one year study.

He told me, he was advised to apply for a "holiday extension" (not sure of the term) of 30 days that can be granted for a year study, so it would give him time for his new application to be processed.

Also that way, he did not have to loose his ED visa or pay overstay 500B/day.

Is this still valid now ?

What's the proper name for it / to apply, and which form to ask for ?

What time of documents do I need to ask my school (they are clueless about it) ?

    Thank you

    K

  4. Hello,

I am on an ED visa and I live East of Bangkok, still Bangkok though ...

I was wondering if there are ANY other immigration bureau that I could patron every 3 months instead of wasting a day every time I need to extend my visa & report for 90 days.

Somewhere local, somewhere small, if possible without/less queues, somewhere without recorded voice telling you numbers in that horrible tone, somewhere that is not a huge city flooded by neon lights, somewhere where the officer does not see 5000 farangs per day ..

In a nutshell, NOT Chaeng Wattanna !

    Cheers !smile.png

  5. Would make sense to do the whole conversation in Thai at Immigration Office as well...

I'm fine with that, but I'm actually learning Chinese. Should I demand a chat in Mandarin for my next ED extension? Perhaps the Muay Thai students can throw a few drop kicks in the immigration office. Not sure what the cooking students will do, but somtam boobala always goes down well with the immigration officers.

Serious though, I fully agree that some students (and language schools) are abusing the system.

    Simon

And I've been learning Japanese for 2 years and I can't wait really to have my ALL interview in Japanese in Chaeng Wattana ! Really please interview me in Japanese!

  6. Sounds like they were going to bribe immigration to extend your visa. As they might not have the correct paperwork, or their course might not be officially recognised by the MoE. As this would explain why they won't give you the documents (Because they don't have them).

Of course that's just speculation, but I assume you'd probably come to the same conclusions yourself.

As for what to do.... try and sort it out with the school to either process your visa (You seem like you know what the costs should be for your visa type, if you're unsure just explain a little more about your current visa situation and people can give you the costs), or to give you a refund. As resolving the issue with them will be a lot less hassle than bringing in a third party.

If they won't give you a refund, then I assume you'd need to contact the police, although there may be a more relevant government department, I'm not sure.

Also as a quick reminder, naming and shaming is against the forum rules. So please, even if forum members ask for the name of the school, please don't post it, as there can be legal repercussions for Thai Visa (Although messaging them via pm is fine).

Thank you very much for this very detailed and constructive answer :

Here the plot thickens : After calling me 5 times this morning to extort money from me, they called my previous school to ask why I have left them.

I just received a call from the lady of my ex school telling me she just been contacted by them !blink.png

Fortunately she was not able to give them any info about me.

It seems that they are digging for dirt and starting the naming and shaming on their side !

I really hope I will be able to get my refund tomorrow ...

And YES I will be more than wiling to give the school name by PM to anyone who ask ! Please do contact me before you get conned too !

  7. You are aware you must pay 1,900 baht and fill out a TM.7 and TM.47 every 90 days unless you can extend for one year. It is not just a visit to immigration every 90 days. Visa only allows a 90 day stay and even if you had a multi entry visa you would have to leave the country every 90 days or less.

I am very much aware of this yes, thank you

But before even going to immigration I need the MOE letter, don't I ?

  8. Hello

I recently applied and paid for one year course with a school for an ED Visa extension.

The all procedure was uneasy and not straight forward, I had doubts about this guy ...

Anyhow I was with a friend who said the place looked legit and I was too paranoid, so I paid.

Today, the school called me, asking for an extra 8000B to get a one year extension so I don't have to go to immigration every 3 months.

I politely refused and said I was "happy" to go to immigration every 3 months, as my radar was again on alert :it seemed strange /dodgy/ never heard of that.

The guy on the phone then said he could not guaranty that my visa would be accepted.

I said no problem, I could deal with immigration myself just give me the papers please.

He refused and said HIS school policy was to take the student to immigration and asked me when I was coming.

I said I had to check my schedule and call him back.

2 minutes later he calls back, he now wants 4000 B, he says the immigration wants 8000B but the school is ready to help me and pay 4000 for me.

I still say: no, I just want my MOE letter thanks.

He start shouting HIS SCHOOL DOES NOT DO THAT

Why? I asked, it's standard procedure in other schools.

    More shouting.

    What can I do ?

    Thank you for your help

  9. Solar panels are valuable tech, a wonderful thing - for the right application.

Mobile uses, remote locations, homesteading off the grid.

Just have to design your systems to minimize electricity usage, maximize efficiency, not just take a normal incredibly-wasteful house and try to power it from the sun. Minimize inverter usage by using native DC (12 or 24v appliances), fridge and direct IC engines running off LPG, direct-solar hot water with well-insulated tanks.

Batteries and supplemental generators complete the package.

Ends up being just as cheap as paying electric bills amortized over say 5-7 years and you've got more security being self-sufficient.

Plus you can buy land off in the bush far from civilization at very cheap prices, walk around nekked if you like.

Well maybe not in Thailand. . .

  10. I think you started losing it when you decided you were Jesus. coffee1.gif

I thought I saw Jesus at a full moon pary in Koh Pa Ngan in 1992 when I was sitting in a very popular omelette restaurant.

By the way, the bottles round the dogs' necks are not full of water, or anything for that matter - they are empty and to show the local dog-catcher that they are affluent.

Just a collar would not do ?
I have 3 dogs and if I tie an empty water bottle round their neck instead of buying collars I'd save 700 baht. Not many pet stores ban nawk.

    A dog collar is 25THB

    In any discounter shop

  12. If we expats here were treated reciprocally the same way Thai emigrants in many countries are treated, we would be treated a whole lot worse than we actually are, believe you me!

The ritual I have to go through each year for a retirement extension here in Thailand pales into insignificance when compared to the tediously bureaucratic performance we had to go through in order to obtain the necessary visa for my Thai wife to accompany me on a 10-day trip back to the UK 4 years ago!!

Agreed not easy for Thais to visit the west. However, easier for Thais to get permanent residence status in the west than for westerners to get the same status here in Thailand...

Ok but let me pose this question....how many countries in the world that even offer retirement visa's hand out PR or citizenship to the retiree's ? my guess either none or not many...therefore for the most part TV's are asking for reciprocity, but one suspects there is no basis for this in the case of retiree's anywhere else in the world and if there is it will not be in many countries.

The fact is, which a lot of people forget is that Thailand is amongst only a handful of countires that even offer some form of retirement visa to start with, never mind giving said persons PR or citizenship. Does the the my second home program in malaysia lead to PR or citizenship ?...me thinks not

Spain switzerland, laos philipines ...on top of my head all offer retirement visa

  13. Don't worry, they all are family oriented. As a husband, you are just at the bottom end of the hierarchy of what is her family.
