  1. first you need to try looking the space of the external unit, if you have full of free space probably you lost all, but if see that something is taking the space probably the virus only hide your folders and files

    Try this:

open the usb (folder) got to organize -> folder and search options -> view and in this windows check these items:

hideen files and folders -> show hidden files folders and drives

    uncheck these:

hidden extension for known file types

    hide protected operating system files

and press ok, now you can see a lot of files usually hidden for the user, try to find your folders and files, later format the usb unit, and after that rever the changes in "organize" if you want.

if not find any file and there was something important you can try with some recovery tool

  2. I use yahoo but for firefox try this

in the address bar type about:config and enter, read the "message" and enter again (if is your first time in that area)

    search -> keyword

    double click on keyword.url

change the default for some of these

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=
    or
    http://www.google.co.th/search?hl=en&q=

now you can search directly in the address bar and the result will be in english

you can change the language changing this hl=[languague]

    for example for spanish/ESpaniol es

    http://www.google.co.th/search?hl=es&q=

You can add more values for example for use verbatim, or porn on or search only results in the last year thumbsup.gif

Ok just did this at work on my PC will try on my mac. Thank you so much.

    Your welcome.

these are the other advanced configurations

&tbs=qdr:d search default only for today

&tbs=qdr:w search default only this week

&tbs=qdr:m search default only this month

&tbs=qdr:y search default only this year

&tbs=li:1 mode verbatim on (this desactivate the annoying idiot proff search on google that all the time it's trying to correct your words)

sad that it's not possible combine verbatim with time

&safe=off this desactivated the default "safe search: moderate", very useful for find good images and videos.whistling.gif

&safe=on if you have children around this set up the safe search: strict

    Examples:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&tbs=li:1&q=
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=on&tbs=qdr:y&q=

  3. There's rights and wrongs in this thread.

If you have a single disc in your computer, it is acceptable to partition it into two volumes, one for the OS and one for programs/data. That way, if you have to reinstall the OS and it requires a format, the other partition remains intact.

On an external drive, this isn't an issue, and folders will do fine.

yes, another good reason it's when you have a big HDD and you need to run chkdsk /r in c:

  4. Probably if your dell laptop fail (and depending of the hardware affected) you must send it outside thailand, maybe Hong Kong or US.

In my experience, I tried to get a new battery and a charger from the dell office in Thailand, I call them and we get a long conversation on emails about the battery and the charger that I was looking, they never answer if they have it or not, and in all the emails they try to sell me a new computer!! :/

I bought a new dell laptop here in Chiang Mai in the IT city, having a dell office in the same shopping mall, the prices in IT city were cheap more that in the dell shop, the reason was the laptop in IT city come from Malasya, where the dell office is a quite bigger, having 17'' models, gamer (alienware) or high end laptops, so probably the sellings are better reducing the prices too.

  5. It shows the attitude of Thais against people from other countries or different colours. It is not only the word"farang". They use the word "Kaek" for Indians, "Negro" for black Africans (including Afro-Americans). Would Thai people like to be called "monkeynose" or something else in other countries? The use it in a derogatory way to cover their superiority complex. And it dehumanizes foreign people here and makes it easier to deny them the same rights like the natives.

I think something similar, not at the point of dehumanizes but I saw that Thai people feel so superior to wherever of the countries around, inclusive they not recognize thailand indigenous people as "thais" still they help them or take care, is a kind of superiority feeling that create a distance between you and they, similar to the jewish racism.

  6. you can ask for "take a baam" (sound like that) or something similar (it's a natural mentol) or go to the farmacy and show your wound they usually now, I usually use only some "take a baam" especially for ant bites.

That's what I use for mosquito/ant bites also and works pretty well. BTW, it's Tiger Balm, at least that's what I think you are referring to, and comes in a jar like this.

    tiger-balm.jpg

yes, I asked to my gf and it's "tiger balm"

  8. of course assuming that isnt a bot fly bite . . they look rather similar at early stage

    Thanks,

    What's a bot fly ?

I guess I could Google it, but thought I'd ask if you have experieced a bite !?

I never have it but a I saw a friend with one but the wound looks like a flower, nothing like a bite, you can look videos or pictures.

I think you have an allergic reaction, I am allergic, thailand have many varieties of mosquitoes and some of them in less than one hour I not have nothing other like the wound that you describe, with some transparent yellow scarring that if you broken, grow and grow, about 5 or 7 days, better that you cut your nails or stop scratching at all.

the small ants dark brown with red, bite pretty bad too, 7 days of itching, you can ask for "take a baam" (sound like that) or something similar (it's a natural mentol) or go to the farmacy and show your wound they usually now, I usually use only some "take a baam" especially for ant bites.

    never eat in the bed!!

  9. Well, I asked more than 4 hours ago what would be the correct Thai word to call a foreigner from who you don't know the name nor his nationality.

But untill now nobody has given me the answer, while there have been many at the same time who have said that farang is bad, very bad.

Do you actually know what you're talking about?

Khon tang chart is often used for people from other countries so surely this could also be used for white skinned foreigners?

Get real. If the Thais called farangs "khon tang chart," the overly sensitive types would be offended by that!

khon tang chart means foreigner?? because maybe foreigner is a complicated word for thais and with the time this could migrated to farang, I asked a lot about what is the meaning of farang and not have any relation with the fruit, I tried to understand why some people is farang and other not, I showed pictures from people from everywhere and farangs are foreigners, not Asiatic, not black, white, some brown skin with good looking and without beard.

The funny thing is about people from south america, thais recognize as thai people or normal people, but if they have beard, automatically as muslims, only the handsome men or beatiful girl are recognized as farang.

  10. I don't like it, people that I don't know should be ok.

in my country all the Asia countries are chinesse, we say "chinos" and I know that is very offensive for Japanesse people, the same with "Sudaca" for hispanoamericans, "gringos" for westerners, nigga, farang etc.

"farang" is closer to "gringo" so all the time sound strange for me since I am not a gringo for sure.

When people that know my thai name or my real name call me farang or speak about me as farang I joke asking if they are from cambodia or myanmar, and caliing them hey cambodian or dam_n (black) or something more irritating, in some point they catch the idea and never call me farang again.

personally I hate racist, classicist, etc. I like to be considered as one more, nothing special for good or bad

  11. From the Thai side, My GF and me we have 12 Rai 6 of rice and 6 of sugar cane in Nakhon Sawan, for me was a kind of adventure I incentivate her for go and get the part of the land that the father offer to she, I was filming the process and many of the things that are interesting for me, asking many things, etc.

I give all the money to do everything for the land to get a good crop, but nothing for rent or buy, one interesting thing is about is that if you get a good crop the prices per month that you can get discounting all the cost/hand work/seeds/water/pesticides/fertilizer etc is around 800-1200 bath per Rai/month so for me not look as a good business, still if something that can give you some money for few work, but renting or buy a land looks crazy for me.

Of course this is a beginner price, the truck/machine process for the sugar cane is expensive at the beginning (preparing/flat the land and put the sugar cane inside the land around 1 or 2 meters), but you don't need it again in the next 4 years (maybe) some times you don't need water extraction since the irrigation could be good (or the rain), and if you have many Rai the hand work could be cheaper, if my memory work good the harvesting/hand work was about 180 bath per day, so the price could be more per month...

But you all the time can lose a lot, flooding, plagues, fire, or drought can easily kill your crops...

Another interesting thing for me is about the red and green landlord papper, usually the king or the goverment give land to the poor families in remote areas (not only thais, Myanmar/Chinnese people too), I meet many of them, not only for make crops, they can build a resort if they want, but the goverment check if they really working the land in some way, if they have a red papper they can not selling the land and they can lose it if they don't work on it, after 20 years (i am not sure) the get the green papper and they can do wherever with the land.

sorry if my information is not accurate.

  13. It's strange but

The Indian food have different spices, and an extreme use of curry, cinnamon and cloves.

Usually Thai people don't like cinnamon and cloves (the bad smell), I love it.

Usually the Indian people (Hindus) that Thai recognize as indian are the black skin one, and since indians (political and religious) are so clasist, the poor indian all the time is trying to jump to a high class, even denying that they come from India (with a strong indian accent), this plus the bad higenics habits (sometimes really nasty) it makes that Thai people have a misperception about the quality of the indian food.

I met many indians in America, very nice people, I've been Hare Krisnha monk to when I was teenager, and later I lived with young people of every where in the world, in backpackers or in shared flats, so I understand the prejudices.

  14. Hi again ITGabs,

Since you have mentioned that your TOT connection is unreliable, I think you should try putting the Billion in Bridge Mode to the DD-WRT because I am sure it will make a big improvement to the stability of your ADSL connection. I'm sure because I have both a TRUE and a TOT line at home and since I changed to this setup (DD-WRT Router/Bridged Modem) both connections are now completely stable. They never need rebooting which I was constantly doing in the past when using multi-function devices (Modem/Router/WiFi) where the chipset can easily be overwhelmed by doing too many functions under stress.

In Bridge Mode, the ADSL Modem only has to handle the DSL Modulation, nothing else. So it can always maintain a stable link to the local DSLAM.

The only difference in the DD-WRT configuration is in the WAN setup. Where you have "Static IP" in connection type, you would change that to PPPoE and enter your TOT account details.

    post-50983-0-16206600-1346668723_thumb.p

Also I think that with your present configuration, it is doing "Double NAT" which would also introduce some latency.

    Cheers,

PS. You can see in the top right of the screen shot that the router has been up for 16 days (probably that was the last power cut) and still going fine.

    AWESOME TIP!!!! clap2.gif

I'm rebooting the Billion and DD WRT every two days aprox tryng to fix some problems in the connection, so I am testing your configuration from now thanks wai.gif

  15. Don't worry I was not expecting that you answer so fast smile.png

That it's good information... and off course that I can tongue.png really I have no problem with TOT only with the router Billion that block some webpages I think in relation with some bug with VPNs, but now I am using the Billion only as a modem/hub no dhcp/firewall/access point, I only setup the DMZ to my DD WRT Linksys router that have many complex/advanced configurations unsupported by other routers, so really I only need the adsl modem.

You can tell me the branch and the model of that prehistoric modem? curiosity only tongue.png

    Hi ITGabs,

Using a DD-WRT router is a great solution however the way you describe your configuration doesn't sound correct. You said that you put the Billion in DMZ mode but it should be in bridge mode with the DD-WRT handling the ISP login. Where do you enter the ISP login/password? Is it in the Billion or the DD-WRT?

    Hi Dork,

Sorry for the dalay I already answered this but seems that my ISP had a problem and I never post it really...

DMZ because the Billion do the logging into the ISP/PPP/ADSL

The Billion is connected to the Phone Line and have the internal ip 192.168.1.1 and work like a gateway

The Linksys with DD WRT is connected by cat5 from the Billion hub port 1 to the internet port in my Linksys.

I setup in the DD WRT like the image

    post-160900-0-06082000-1346658598_thumb.

So the DMZ go to 192.168.1.2 internet (DD WRT) local in my internal network in 192.168.0.1 I am not sure what is the technical name of this configuration but this allow me to play with more internal network on my "Laptops Rack" smile.png with many VM machines and setup all the things only in the DD WRT (I work with replicas of servers enviroments for better debug/safe tests) so really the Billion is a pain in my setup, it's very buggy as the TOT network, I only need a convencional modem so I can connect the internet directly to the DD WRT

  16. probably thousand of places in Thailand... why you must book in advance? with the amount of hotels in Thailand is better/cheaper that you try by day here.

I work in my laptop in the night and since all the ISP in thailand usually have many disconenctions/blocking/traffic shaping and many other issues, is better to use backups, for example you can get the fast internet of your hotel, and alternative subscription to wifi hotspots (only in big cities) and a true 3G in your phone or tablet (almost every where) plus use proxies or vpn to bypass many of the ISP problems (you can use "tor browser") and you will be ok 100% online.

  17. Yes well, my cabling is from Tukcom Pattaya, no-name cables put together on front of my eyes biggrin.png

Works ok, transfer rates are bound by disk I/O, not the net. I think I did try to test it once with two linux boxes, can't remember if the result was 500 or 700M, but well above the other HW limits anyway. The most notable effect I've seen is in the latency, that too is only important if you have applications requiring extremely fast response times.

    Since it's cheap, why not.

You can test the speed with a RAMDISK unit, the speed is around 6000Mb/s (RAM CPU) where the HDD is around 100Mb/s so you just download directly to the RAM and check the speed wink.png

    http://www.softperfe...ducts/ramdisk (free trial ramdisk)

http://www.steelbyte...=download&pid=1 (free tool to check the speed on hdd/cards/ramdisk/dvd etc)

  18. Hi again not sure what you mean by branch, to English folks a branch (besides being something that grows on a tree) refers to a sub office of a large company - if that's the case it's 3BB in Chiang Mai.

The router is not really prehistoric, it's a HUAWEI SmartAX MT880 and was very easy for configuring for port forwarding for my torrents etc. Has quite a lot of features which you can check on the Internet now you know the model.

Actually having a degree and stuff convinces me to adopt the principle of 'simple works' because the more bells and whistles I see people buying because it seems 'neat' the more headaches I see them have when it goes wrongthumbsup.gif

As for the blocked web pages I'm afraid big brother mict.go.th is hitting all the Thai ISPs 3BB includedbah.gif

HI! I mean branD nor brach... thanks for the info, soon I will change to 3BB, that should be better than TOT

months ago I found many hotels without any restriction/blocked page I thought they was using 3BB
