  1. Not too long ago we had another thread on this same topic. Somwhere in there a city official gauranteed that Pattaya would not experience any water shortages this year.

Well, despite all the rain we've received recently, and the fact that it is now the low season, maybe that official could explain why we've had the water cut-off in our neighbourhood twice in the last week ? (I just checked and the water is still off)

And now the Deputy Minister of the Interior is concerned ? That tells me someone somewhere maybe knows something they don't want to tell the rest of us ?

What is the status of that pipeline that was supposed to solve all our problems (assuming we get enough rain to fill the resevoirs) ?

  2. I find that if it is a serious discussion, you will generally get serious responses. If it is a "head-up-your-arse" topic, then the responses will match.

I know what the OP means. When someone spends the time to draft a well thought-out reply, and all of the responses to it are just smileys or one word "huh ?" type replies.

I also like the ones where someone feels compelled to quote an entire post, and doesn't add anything at all to it.

And then someone else will quote that entire post and add a smiley.

And then someone else will again quote the entire piece, and add yet another smiley.

You end up with 4 screens of crap for what amounts to 2 lines of comments (including the smileys) from a total of 10 posters. :D

I browse hundreds of posts and never feel I have to reply to every one of them in some manner, but others do feel compelled to do so, even when they have nothing constructive to add to the discussion.

It's unfortunate, but as someone else mentioned, it is the nature of public boards such as these. The only way to avoid it would be to start your own board, and only invite those whose views (and posting styles) match your own. Kinda like that "other" site that shall not be mentioned :o

Then, anyone who doesn't follow your views on posting could be banned !

(now, count the number of replies to this that consist of just a smiley or short, pointless one liners. You know it's going to happen. You can't help yourself. I can see you now trying to decide which smiley would be most appropriate. Go on, DO IT ! You know you wanna...........)

    "click"

There, now don't you feel better ? Don't you feel like you've made a significant contribution to the conversation ? I can see the smug smile on your face from here. Good work ! Now go give yourself a congratulatory wank in the WC ! :D

  3. I always take my regular driver @ 1500 all incl. Excellent driver, speaks good English, clean new car, well worth the extra cost.

Same same. I use one of the guys that lives in my building. One of my buddies uses him as well. 1,500 baht including tolls. You can leave when you want, stop along the way if you want.

No worries about shady operators trying to shanghai you for more money, or having to share a ride with "less than desirable" other passengers, ect.

I also use him for my visa runs as well. Get to leave later in the day, stop (or not stop) along the way. Leave Ban Laem as soon as you are finished, instead of waiting for the inevitable "problem children". Little more expensive than using a visa company on one hand, but more convenient on the other.

I've seen some of the taxi kiosks have started upping the rate to 900 baht now. Surprised they didn't do that awhile ago. 2 years ago, gas was 17 baht/litre. Now it's like 24 baht/litre. (200 baht yesterday to fill my little 200cc Phantom !)

I have used the "taxi from the hotel" option in previous years, and only once did they try to scam me (back in '98). Fortunately I had the g/f with me and she put an end to that pretty quick.

That was only once out of, hmmmm, a dozen or so trips ?

  4. I spoke with a lawyer from this forum's sponsor recently and the information they gave me was there was no way to turn a 30day stamp into a 1 year visa and as mentioned previously the Non Imm O must be obtained out of the country before you can get the 1 year extension which is available in Pattaya.

OK, that sounds right. Get the 1 year Non-O from outside the country, and when it is almost expired, convert it into a 1 year Retirement.

I thought for a brief second that maybe the Pattaya Immigration Bureau was offering some special service, maybe in exchange for certain financial incentives. :o

Good to know nothing has changed. :D

  5. Maybe they were just going to open aother library in Soi 6

I hear that they are actually just tour guides. Due to the increased number of Russian tourists, these girls patrol up and down the street, just in case some poor Russkie gets lost or finds he has too much money in his pocket and doesn't know what to do with it. :o

  6. I have no knowledge of dependent visas, but Pattaya immigration has the authority to issue retirement visas on the spot, and usually do so immediately, if you've got the 800K in the bank.

Seriously ? I thought you had to apply for that from an embassy outside the country ? (I'm just on the 30 day transit visa right now).

Or is it that they will give you a retirement visa, if you are already on another type of visa and have the cash in the bank (and are 50+ years old).

Wonder if they'd give me the 1 year retirement visa, even though I'm 5 years short of the minimum age ? Think they'd notice if you didn't mention it ? :o

  7. Today makes it 3 full weeks without a smoke ! Still get the feeling once in awhile that a smoke would be great, like a cold drink on a hot day. Probably will get that feeling for years to come, but it's no where near as bad as the initial cravings were.

I find I can easily ignore this feeling, and as soon as I start doing something, I forget about wanting a smoke (much different that feeling you need a smoke).

I should celebrate after 1 month, but hey, I'm celebrating pretty much every day any ways ! :o

  8. Hmmmm, just noticed something odd. You and srini have the exact same avatar.

(Note that you joined like, 15 months earlier and have about 1,364 more posts !)

just odd to see two people with the same obscure avatar.......

  9. hi Brit

are you involve in uzbekistan prostitution ???

    why you advice this ?????????????????????????

Why not? It's news from the local rag.

That's what Brit does - cut'n'paste news from the local rags.

So we can all have a good laugh :D

Don't you have a sense of humour :D

Maybe he's trying to drum up some business on the side ? Or he's trying to cut down on the competition ? :D

Either way, it would have been better with a BIGGER picture :o

  10. It almost RAINed here this evening. It started to spit, just enough to get everyone in panic mode (laundry getting pulled in, windows closed, umbrellas out), then..............nothing.

It may start again. Then again, it may not. It probably will depend on whether or not I decide to go out tonight. If I do go out, it will start pissing down minutes after I leave. If I stay in, nary a drop will fall. :o

  11. Hi All,

Will be arriving in Pattaya July and curious if the immigration has started online 90 day reporting? I will work outside Thai, and with non Imm "O" Retirement, want to make sure I am back for the reporting, or of course, it would make life much easier for online!

    Regards,

    Dick

My understanding is that you can do the 90 day reporting online. Here is the link to the Pattaya Immigration Bureau website:

    Pattaya Immigration Bureau

Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything on their site about reporting online, just electronic copies of the various forms. You could try emailing them about the procedure(s):

[email protected] or phone them after you arrive:

    038 – 252 - 750

I think there was a discussion in this forum about this subject a little while ago (sometime after 5 Dec 05 I think). Might try searching or scanning back a couple of pages.

    Good luck.

  12. Seen a few of those on Walking Street... :D and stick your head in the Russian GoGo thats pretty awful too - think best lady is the one drawing the lads inside the glass booth. (not certain either because never saw her close up) :o

You're thinking of the Galaxy (next to Polo). Some of those girls look like they came straight from the Russian Basketball and/or Volleyball team. Once in awhile a couple will sneak in to Polo and have a couple of shots (vodka) at the bar. Seeing them standing next to the Thai go-go girls is scary.

Seeing them up close, out of make-up, sends shudders and shivers down my spine.

Not sure how Galaxy can charge the prices they do and stay in business (230 baht for a mixed drink, mandatory "tips" for the performers) :D:D

  13. Apparently their main "targets" are elderly (60+) men seen sitting alone in various bars late at night.

According to some of the local sweet, innocent farm girls earning a decent living downtown, these Uzbek/Tajik/Kyrg/Russkie women are popular as they tend to be able to speak better english than those previously mentioned girls from Isaan.

Most of the ones I've seen would be scary sights on Halloween, let alone in some s/t flopper on Walking Street at 2 am. :o

  14. RAINed in Pattaya last night as well. Knew I was going to be drinking last night, so I left the moto at home and took a (moto) taxi.

Got to Walking Street just as it started to rain. Was able to make it to my destination before I got soaked, but then had to stay there longer than I would have liked (such the rough life I lead. It was a real torture, especially if you knew where I had to hole up and wait for the RAIN to end :o )

It's looking like it may try to RAIN again right now. If it does, I'll let you know !

  15. I did the run to Ban Laem on my own last month and am going again in a couple of days.

On the last trip, I paid 1,000 baht for the visa itself. In the "Arrival/Departure" office, I paid an additional 100 baht for the stamps.

    Total fees = 1,100 baht.

Never had anyone try and hit me up for additional fees of any kind other than what I mentioned above.

I also arrived at the crossing just before noon. No other people around. It took a total of 15 minutes from the time I arrived at Ban Laem, until I was finished and ready to return to Pattaya.

Hope it's the same this Sunday !
