  1. That didn't take long did it - a complete "article" based on the alleged revelations of an unnamed source. Mention Thaksin to wind everybody up and let it fly coffee1.gif

Totally correct! Let's way a few hours more to get that confirmation after todays meeting rolleyes.gif

The judiciary do seem to have Thaksin by Yingluck's short and curlies

  2. If I thought the DSI has acted even handedly you'd be correct, there would be something wrong with me. If you assume Prayuth (or anybody in the middle of all this) is going to act even handedly then there's something wrong with you. I'm saying let the summons etc run their course and let the courts deal with it even-handedly. They will be under the spotlight of the World, they will have to get it right. If they think there's no charge to answer to, so be it.

It would be very wrong of anybody to hold any asumptions about Prayuth 2 days into this

    Fair comment.

It seems Prayuth has also postponed the trial of 24 Red Shirts on terrorism charges too - so that's even handed thus far

  3. This is like a game of football now where the referee has been labeled a bar steward by some fans even before he's blown a whistle one way or the other - and that's very juvenile.

Prayuth is taking a very simple, very direct approach - get all parties to put their wish lists on the table and then negotiate. The first part is simple, the next part will Herculean

It's what the political parties should have done months ago - but didn't

  4. I was kind of hoping this Martial Law was going to be a good thing, getting all sides sat at a table together, making sure elections happened unhindered etc. But the reality is that Prayuth is now running the country without the military coup. He's now single-handedly deciding who will or won't be arrested (passions from both sides will be rampant at this). Who is he to decide who is above the law? Warrants and summons have been issued, arrests been made. Let the police try to do their job and let the courts sort it out. This is a farce. People from both sides of the divide need to face up to their actions.

If you think the DSI has acted level handedly then there's something wrong with you

  6. It takes martial law to get these people in a room together and talking, what a bunch of little kids getting scolded by big daddy Prayuth.

I can only imagine the cringey wai they were all giving him as they entered the room.

    Indeed.

    It had to be done.

    Someone had to do it

    Cometh the hour cometh Prayuth.

He seems to get the best of all worlds with this -

doesn't have the responsibility of running the country whilst clearly being in charge

can't really be blamed for anything going wrong

Gets to clip a few ears that have needed a good slap for a long time

Can shut down most of the negative propaganda

The rallies will soon figure out that they are pointless and go home

  7. "The addition of caretaker PM to the list of invitees came as a surprise to many, because earlier in the day an army spokesman said only representatives of the Senate, the Election Commission, the ruling Pheu Thai Party, the Democrat Party, and leaders of the protest groups would be invited."

Very confusing. One would have thought that the Caretaker would have been encapsulated in the "Pheu Thai Party" part of it.

Did the army forget who is now leading that collection of individuals?

  8. This is all very predictable- PDRC wont go home, army conveniently cannot hold elections because of this and will stay on in the current situation until the thing happens that this fight is really about.

Then the good army can make sure good people succeed. Voila job done.

Seems to me that Prayuth wants to get all parties together to bang some heads and thrash out the way forward.

If PTP want to run around screaming "election, election" like a dysfunctional octagenarian who has just discovered Viagra then the best way to dampen their libido would be to put the brakes on it

  9. The good general seems to be doing a grand job.

Tarit brought down to death, Chalerm tucked up at home and Jatuporn ready to speak with Suthep.

    All in a day's work.

Imagine if he'd done this in January

  10. "Within the constitution" that part of the statement is interesting, as Article 188 does not explicitly allow military chief to declare nationwide military law, only in a specific location. Not that anyone is likely to challenge him on that.

The army has acted within the law.

However the constitution does not allow a castrated and beheaded temporary acting caretaker cabinet to select a new PM.

    Where next?

  11. Well this is how much focus Prayuth has on working with the government.

Asked just now at a press conference.

RT @tulsathit: Ask if/ how he will report to govt, Prayuth: Where's the govt now? via @jin_nation

    here the full version:

Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha Tuesday indicated he regarded that the caretaker government was not taking charge of the situation.

"Where is the government?" Prayuth quipped when a reporter asked whether he had to report the declaration of martial law to the government.

Prayuth was speaking to a press conference at the Royal Thai Army Club after he held a meeting with senior government officials.

    The Nation

    Touche.

I couldn't name the PM without simultaneously googling it and eating a hot potato

  12. The streets are safer.

    Ko Tee has fled

The 2 camps are coralled in away from each other.

The government enterprises are likely to call off their proposed strikes

Suthep has stopped harassing the hangers on and called off his march..

The man on the Morchit omnibus is happier

The PTP is happy that the army did what Thaksin's cousin Surapong requested

The only grumps are the red underpants boys on TV

Can't keep everybody happy I guess
