  1. Just came from Sai 4 and the Reds are massing. They are here to protect Thailand from falling into fascist hands. The courts and the senate can't do much as the Constitutional Court verdict was clear that the caretaker government will only change after the election. Suterp will never ever get his interim government. Bets are on.

If they are in soi 4 I would assume that they have realised the futility of supporting one family and have decided to have a little party before returning to their abodes

  2. It is a valid legal question and should be addressed. If it has no legal basis, then it will not proceed any further. I do note that the majority of votes came from Senators who were appointed by the former military dictatorship and Abhisit administration. That does cause a bit of a stench.

And if that then prompts questions about the legitimacy of Mr. Short time Poly Syllable's selection as temporary, interim, stand-in, substitute, acting , caretaker prime minister that ultimately leads to the political vacuum that some desire, dies that therefore leave us in a status of som nam na that you will accept?

And you miss the point. If the argument for the removal of various government officials was that they violated the applicable constitutional laws, then those who are responsible for the removal must be compliant with the same constitutional laws.

In respect to the election of a senate president, it is tainted because a large number of senators assumed their position due to appointment of by the former military dictatorship and the Abhisit administration and they all voted for one of their own.. The battleground is over who controls the senate. The senate holds considerable power, particularly over the appointment of officials. If the military and Democrat faction can keep control of the Senate, they can keep manufacturing situations where any political party that is not aligned with it will keep being removed. The anti government faction wants to keep blocking the election and to appoint a "transition" government because many of the senators terms will expire within the next year. If they can gain control the government even if only for a year, they can influence the appointment of new senators and retain control of the senate.

I guess we shall see whether or not the vote required advance notice (possible) or a royal decree (unlikely).

One point to note is that all present voted and no complaints were raised.

  3. All this "judicial coup" nonsense has been polluting the airwaves for months.

The beast is not dead. It is polycephalic like some hideous hydra but the beast lives nonetheless.

  4. Chalerm was implicated in silencing witnesses to his sons killing a policeman in cold blood.

Surapong stands accused of abuse of power by opening up the passport offices at the peak of the great floods to illegally issue a passport to Thaksin.

Tarit stands accused of being unusually wealthy by owning 2 luxury houses in Hua Hin and Korat and of building a resort illegally.

And they collectively come out to say that something is illegal?

Methinks they are not worthy enough

  5. Thaksin could pull the plug on the stand off at any time by retreating his family from politics.

He could also ask Suthep and his clan to do the same for the greater good.

I bet you any money you like that will still not satisfy Suthep.rolleyes.gif

Even if what you said happened, they will still be jumping up and down demanding electoral reform ( stretched out for a number of years in order to plunder the coffers further himself ) and probably in the meantime disenfranchise the rural voters

    You might be right.

    And you might be wrong.

Bear in mind that there has been no appetite thus far from either the army or Prem to support Suthep

  7. Another change of attitude from this imposter!

Sutep must have torn him a new one after he dared try and isolate the dems from this fascist yellow rabble!

Arrest sutep and the fake monk and call for elections on the 20th of July .

I know the yellows don't want one because they will lose but it's better than blood in the streets!

You seem to believe that if there is an election, there will be no blood in the streets.

    Why is that?

  8. I see its the CAPO has issued this statement and not a named person, could that be because it was given by someone that no longer holds a lawful right to be running the CAPO

Surely it's unconstitutional to make an anonymous government statement

  9. Interesting - the so-called PM calls the new speaker invalid as it was not timetabled; at the same time the acting PM is put under question as there ois no remit to appoint a PM other than via election or via the Senate.

    Exactly.

    What a bizarre situation.

I wonder if this was the intention

  10. This is bizarre beyond words. Pheu Thai can't select a prime minister through a cabinet - fully filled or half filled - caretaker or not. There are only two paths to prime minister. One - through a quorum-filled parliament. Two - through the Senate in the event of a quorum-less parliament. Period. And no matter how many portfolios everyone now has to take on because the cabinet has become so unpopulated - it makes no difference. They can pose for the cameras. They can't govern. They have no legislative mandate. They have no parliament. They have no public mandate. They have no path to an election. And because they don't have a constitutionally recognized prime minister, they can't issue an election.

I'm not convinced that there is a word in the extensive vocabulary of the English language, or indeed any language (I may stand corrected) that can describe the political dog's breakfast that now governs this great nation.

I am sure that political inteligentsia on the oppostion side will be contemplating what the dog's breakfast is legally entitled to do and will leap upon any perceived misdemeanour in a heartbeat - possibly bringing this canine soup kitchen to a finally euthanised state.

It certainly seems to me that Suthep should call it quits and threaten to return if any of the Shinawatra clan is named as a potential candidate for MP - and the other side of that coin is that he should recuse himself and his clan from the same. To continue to attack the throats of a zombie administration serves little to no gallant purpose.

Abhisit, too, must make his position as well as that of the Democrat party clear. Elections or no elections - that is the question. Get off the fence, declare your reforms and participate to bring an end to this unseemly mess.

  11. She was not defence Minister until 2013 and the court only targetted the ones who were ministers in 2011.

Now we see what happens when you rush a decision and it may be why the NACC are late with thier bit of the Coup.

More important is the question of whether she can stand in the July 20th election.

If Thailand had proper judges instead of Ammart bully boys this sort of thing would not happen (so often)

She's already been judged as being unqualified to hold office.

    That's rather unambiguous
