  1. It is laughable to think that Walking Street is going to be a venue for high dining. There are already enclaves that cater for those with lots of money at Bang Saray, Wong Amat and Pratmanuk. Jomtien and Pattaya beaches are the venues for the masses. Pre Covid the most popular resto on Walking St was the Beer Garden with food akin to poor school dinners and playing "hits" from the 60s and 70s. The view was nice if you looked out towards the ocean, but rather unpleasant if you looked back to the beach at the pipes pumping black sludge into the sea.
  2. Yet more work for the nice folk at Nong Nooch. They have managed to make a pigs ear of their own place with a plague of concrete animals so not getting too excited about what they have in store for the beach.
  3. Anyone else got a feeling of deja vu? The planned HiSo developments are not around Walking Street and the local big cheeses have too much invested in WS to give it all up. Rumours if its impending death are greatly exaggerated.
  4. I'm here already thanks. Not a great deal to do other than watch sport on the telly.
  5. The topic is about exporting the AZ vax to other countries. Anyway, it is valid to compare Thailand to other nations.
  6. Thailand are not unique in being complacent. Look at the low vax rates in Japan, Korea, Oz and Vietnam plus others in this neck of the woods.
  7. The plant is in Thailand but its produce is for the whole SE Asia region. If the plant was in Vietnam, say, and they welched on agreements to supply Thailand everyone would be up on arms about it.
  8. I don't know why anyone should treat anything they are told by expatvac or any other Government department as gospel truth that you can safely hang your hat on. Indications are generally encouraging though that more or less depends on where you are. Good luck to all and try to be patient. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
  9. I have heard of casting pearls at swine but never at chickens. I will now have to closely examine my chicken breast fillets as well as my pork chops.
  10. Front page headline on this morning's Bangkok Post reports that the police have requested support from the army who are now "on call". This is sinister and scary news if it becomes a reality.
  11. I think the Chinese do want their people to travel abroad. Countries; Thailand included; have grown to be dependant on Chinese tourists and their money as well as their ownership of properties and factories. This is a global phenomenen. Apropos of nothing, I see that the Bangkok Post today published the top 50 countries by Covid infections; Thailand is ranked at 36. China? Not on the list, by looking at Worldometer they rank 104. How did that happen? A conspiracy theorist might think they maybe had an effective vaccine exclusively for themselves. The huge field hospital in Wuhan at the start of the crisis was built in a matter of days. You might have thought that it would have needed months of advance planning, but apparently not. All materials, specialised medical equipment and the workers to build and staff it were readily at hand.
  12. The ideal scenario would be as you state. A leader to rally round is required.
  13. I wouldn't be doing any mustering up if I were you. Stick to watching it on the telly. Let's all hope for restraint on all sides where violent force is concerned. Tanks and guns v ping-pong bombs and molotov cocktails: Tanks and guns would have a very bloody and deadly win.
  14. 1. Chelsea 2. City 3. Liverpool 4. Leicester .... 18. Everton 19. Brentford 20. Norwich Chelsea will get off to a flier and keep their noses in front. 3rd time lucky for Leicester. Sancho will be a flop at Utd. Hugely overrated. Everton will implode this season, all portents pointing downwards. Golden boot Lukaku.
  15. If malls and/or casinos are not built, what do you think will be?
  16. The law will change IMO. Maybe the PM will have to change first.
  17. Yesterday, I went to Best Supermarket at Dolphin Roundabout. Loads of bread: Thai muck, French, German and Italian varieties. A range of sandwiches are available too. There were potatoes in and they were looking a bit below their best but you could pick out some decent ones. There is a Harry's bread stall close by up Naklua Rd at the Loma Night Market site.
  18. I think the area is ripe for casino construction; the Las Vegas model of ground floor gambling, eating and shopping options with hotel rooms built above.
  19. Big plans for 2nd Road between Klang and Central Marina where huge swathes of derelict land are owned by Chang (daddy's company). Once Covid dies down watch the cranes and piling rigs come rolling in.
  20. A change at the top is overdue. He and Prawit are blocking the path for those generals who crave power. An armed forces top brass reshuffle this week will upset those overlooked for higher office. A Julius Ceasar scenario beckons.
  21. The number of cases in the whole of SE Asia has fallen four days on the trot so maybe it is a trend.
  22. AZ will do for me. Many Thais would be glad of it too, I guess.
  23. If you are in a sandbox hotel get up early for brekkers.
  24. GB - yes I am proud of them. The GB Chef de Mission (big boss) said that increased Govt funding was the main factor in bringing about improvements. That funding comes from my taxes and from Lottery ticket sales, so anyone who has paid or bought either is entitled to bask in the reflected glory. It is a national effort.
