  1. Who do you think the intended consumers are for the major busts you read about every other day? Certainly not tourists.

Cheaper to have a smoke or pop a pill, work harder and not eat anything for days. This is not the answer but an obvious contributing factor for those ladies employed with certain vocations.

  2. Anyone fancy starting a Pret a Manger.

    Now this is it.

Why, in this ghastly day and age of brutally fast convenience fed lifestyles can't someone build a fast food franchise that only sells really healthy food?

    I think it's the future.

Agreed. I think unfortunately with perhaps the exception of Sushi or a noodle broth healthy food just isn't tasty enough to compete. Certain Pret and Subway sandwiches tried this healthy fast food spin but then it was revealed that certain sandwiches and salads contained more calories than burgers. At the same time in the West we view the fast food joints as dirty downmarket food, within Asia these are aspirational, cool brands associated with Western prosperity. The growth in China particularly has been phenomenal.

It is a funny old world.

  3. I live in Rawai and have never had any desire to visit Patong in the cold light of day, but have driven through the offending area and agree it is under heavy construction. In Patong's defence however, a few reasons I think it's the undisputed champ for a night out.

    - Busy every night of the week, not just weekends or in high season.

    - Lots of Western tourists in holiday mode not complaining about their Issan wives of the price of beer.

    - Madame Jo Jo's. Fun for all the family.

    - Huge variety of decent International restaurants - particularly Indian. Higher end some of the best restaurants in Phuket.

    - You are never more than 5 feet away from a beautiful girl

    - The tiger bar complex and nightclub for its sheer scale and madness.

    - Bangla road in general - a whole street dedicated to catering to pleasure. A Mecca of hedonism.

In fairness, Bangla Road never said it was Racha island.

  4. Can I ask the approx cost of the trip excluding spending money? Thanks..

Yes, can you break up the vost for the air fare and hotel also please? And is firefly a new airline?

Firefly are the budget arm of Malaysia airlines. Budget it isn't, however, as my flight was 8800 BHT return (may be cheaper if you book in advance). The hotel, which was worth every penny was 2500 BHT.

Spending money - we drank quite a bit but found a 'bar' called Antarabangsa at the northernmost end of Muntri St. Local beers (Skol) were 100 BHT for 3! Hotel bars were charging around 250 BHT for a bottle.

Food very cheap - try the Nasi Kandar joints open 24hrs and around 300 BHT for a huge meal of lamb, chicken or prawn.

  5. Enjoyed fireflys small plane in March  :-)

    I far prefer Penang>

what did Banana charge you?  Minigood hotel gets u ur visa next day before 12, ( so u end up 2 nights in Penang) so u can make the flight back an only charges 50 MYR.

We were charged the same but paid an extra 60 MYR for guaranteed same day to be extra careful. Perhaps unnecessary. We were in Penang for 2 days also but were quoted a 2pm collection so the Minigood option looks better.

  6. Just thought I would share my visa run experience for those looking for a more comfortable experience.

We flew with FireFly (departs Phuket on alternating days) direct to Penang. Flight was not cheap or the aircraft particularly large but flight time of only 1.15hrs it took no time at all.

Upon arriving in Penang we were processed through immigration almost immediately and in a taxi to Georgetown which took around 40 minutes.

We stayed at the Museum Hotel a No. 72 Jalan A.S.Mansoor - very attractive restored building with colonial era furnishings, 24hr gym and free wifi in every room. Preferring to spend our time in Penang we used the Visa service of Bannana guest house (Chulia St - walking distance). The ED visa normally takes 2 days although the 'express service' is same day. Staying around the old town there were some very nice bars and restaurants and more than enough to keep you entertained for a couple of days.

Having visited KL and disliked it enormously, Penang was a very pleasant surprise and a completely hassle free experience.

  7. All true. There is another large MMA gym opening on fight street in Spring next year I believe. I have been training at Tiger for over a year and have been astonished by the amount if development and successful businesses in that area. There are 4 gyms already on that one street.

Rather encouraging for the future of Phuket that the businesses succeeding here are within the fitness and health industry.

  8. Have you considered just administering it yourself?

It is very safe and painless as you are injecting into a large area of muscle. Alcohol swab the upper outer quadrant of the buttock and inject the oil slowly into that area. Bodybuilders do it weekly.

  9. China air £865 to £923 / Thai £1184 /Singapore £1264 all for the same dates, when you look at high season price with Thomson they are not so cheap and fixed dates on a charter flight the direct flight is a good point but you have to get to Gatwick .

@ Peterocket i did read the post i just gave example of more popular dates for holiday time i am not trying to put down the OP

. Of course there is cheaper but none of those airlines fly direct and also not on the Dreamliner which to all accounts is a very comfortable aircraft.

The OP also mentioned the premium seats are £500 so if you aren't travelling in mid December you can fly business return direct for around £1200. Now that is cheap!

  10. For anyone with friends visiting from England, the direct Gatwick - Phuket flights announced by Thomson in April this year start operating from next month.

These are charter flights so dates and times are fixed but £587 return before mid December on the new Dreamliner looks fantastic even to a non-plane spotter. Saves those irritating connections in the UAE.

    Schedule here;
