  1. I remember seeing them long time ago.

they were rectangular business card shape(maybe the sides were rounded?) n size.

on top was a form where you could fill in your address with a marker pen and you could burn (25 or 250 MB dun remember well) on it.

CDs come in all shapes n sizes...you could look around in the shops in panthips who keep stack piles of CDs

as per me the main drawback would be most people(excluding me) would be afraid to put it in their drive.

  2. ''Riding on the elephant's neck, not its back, is very risky as the jumbo is not familiar with the smell of the rider. It may resist and cause the rider to fall. But the [caretaker] prime minister can ride it. It's a traditional belief that a powerful man who rides on an elephant and can control it will be shielded from all dangers,'' said the elephant expert and local scholar who is well-versed in superstitious beliefs.

So Mr. Toxin wont be shielded after all :o:D:D .....he should have rode that elephant half a year back.

Clever thing to do....ride a well trained actor elephant and have ppl controling him.

  3. Thai PM's approval rating soars despite huge protest

Approval rating 33.6% before rally, 59.3% after.

But Thaksin received a boost from a new survey which found that 59.3 percent of those polled on Sunday and Monday want him to continue as prime minister, compared with 33.6 percent of those surveyed on the eve of Saturday's rally.

The respected ABAC poll surveyed 1,377 residents of the capital Bangkok, where the criticism of Thaksin has been loudest.

2nd poll taken on sunday and monday when anti toxin ppl were resting after the saturday night/sunday morning protest :o

id say take a new poll during the next rally....toxin would get 0% votes and print the news as...

But Thaksin received a big blow from a new survey which found that 0 percent of those polled on {during the next rally} want him to continue as prime minister, compared with 59.3 percent of those surveyed during last sunday and monday.

The respected ABAC poll surveyed 91,377(?) residents of the capital Bangkok, where the criticism of Thaksin has been loudest.

  4. Lengthy transfers, lost baggage, what to do with people who do not qualify for

    a visa to transit Thailand.....................

You mean a tourist form a country not entitled to visa-free 30-day stamp on arrival, flying into Suvarnabhumi airport and continuing on a flight of a budget airline out of Don Muang, to a regional destination outside Thailand. Wouldn’t for such itinerary a flight from an airport outside Thailand directly to the intended final destination be cheaper?

Alternatively, Singapore and Hong Kong will be happy to serve as the hub for the required flight connection. Serves the Airports of Thailand Plc. right.

    ---------------

    Maestro

I think what hong kong does for such passengers (airport <--> ferry terminals) is they carry the passengers by bus under supervision of customs or imigrations...

    they dont get a stamp...

thats what i understood from the video they play on the ferry between maccau and HK...

  5. Immigration can certainly extend visas if you meet the criteria, and you

    apply BEFORE it expires.

I have lived in Thailand on the same Non-Immigrant visa for several years,

and it HAS been extended year by year. So no new policy here.

I think you misunderestood the Immigration Officer, or vice versa.

im here on work permit and when( EDIT before) it expires, i just land up at the one stop center with all the documentation and get a fresh visa without paying any tea money and without leaving the kingdom.

but the case might be diferent for tourist visa???

Take another look at what you get and then tell us exactly what it says please. I do not believe you will find it to be a "visa".

ahhhh...just looked....its "Extention of stay permitted upto ........" and then a re-entry permit stamp.

but i had got tourist visa converted to a business visa while i was here first time without leaving....

  7. The bloke who called the fire brigade couldn't pronounce the bleedin' name hense all the damage.

    :D

Tell Thaksin to monitor it using Google Earth. That should keep him occupied for a while...

He might spot the crack thats not there though.....!

Maybe they should of shoved the fire down there then that wouldn't have been there either..... :D

    redrus

Just waiting for Khun toxin to anounce that the media over reacted and some editors gets sacked....

    would be funnier then :o

  8. just tried their christmas offer....

within 1 min after paypal payment i got the download link.

the downlink has the application forms for a financial institution and a guide book(8 pages) on how to apply.

just the problem is that you need to send $1000 draft to the financial institution.....need to verify the postal address....could be a phony one?

another thing to note is they mention that your ATM card wont work if yr balance is below $250.

they have mentioned in the guide book on how to attach this bank account with your paypal.

  9. Setting up a US bank account is not easy any more but yes it can be done, I did it through a guy in Malaysia and he was very helpfull and wont rip you off.  This is his URL

    http://www.swiss-bank.biz/usbank/

they have reduced the price to $39 for 24th to 25th dec....may buy the ebook....

do you currently hold a thai paypal account and have linked it with your us account?

    any problems in the process?

anything we should be aware of?

  10. thanks a lot oldasiahand...

would it help if i have a HSBC account with mauritius for last 2 years?

the company i wanna open account for in the US is not yet formed but it would be within the next 2 weeks,...

just suppose i manage to get a US bank account, what next?

do i need to pay any tax if paypal does a deposit to my US bank account? need to file any returns or anything on that?

  11. hello all...

im thinking what are the procedures/legalities to open a US bank account for a foreigner (not thai, not american, not european) company.

i have a Mauritius company and would like to open an account un the US so i could collect payments from paypal and other online gateways.

    is it possible?

    which banks allow this?

do i have to go physically to the bank to open an account? - itll have to wait for a few months then...

can somebody else apply on my behalf?

am i entitled to US taxes?

    any recomendations for the banks?

    what i need is....

    online local transfer...to US account...

online SWIFT transfer(wire transfer.... T/T....) so i can make payments.....send money to the companies main account....send money to me....

paypal and others should be able to directly deposit into this a/c...

maybe a lil off topic as nuthin related to thailand......

  12. very very doggy connection today....

couldtn even open my own site(not in thailand)....

first time this happend put me into panic calling my friends all over the world asking them to test the site...

true having network problems = customer support goes on holiday

  13. A new hard drive or a new computer is the way to go - pay a visit to Pantip or that other place - IT Fortune mall or whatever it is called. You can get a very decent machine for 25.000 baht.

If you dont want to spend that much, an internal hard drive of 80 GB is about 2400 baht, and a 250 GB one about 5000.

tend to agree...but those PMs were a little annoying...

dont crib if u get kicked or disconnected frm this hub....

the ops dont charge a thing for using the hub and mostly they are the ones who bring the 'fresh stuff' into the hub....

being in this hub isint our birth right or something....

i think ppl here have been very very helpfull....doin a gr8 job mantaining a quality hub.....

if you look into some of the good bit torrent sites...they have very strict share ratio policies....and that too they wont help you build up your share/ratio....

  14. CSLoxInfo's ADSL in my corner of Chiang Mai is okay - when it is up. But quite unstable. Down 3-4 times a week (every week) ranging from 1 to 4 hours, not counting occasional dropouts of 5-10 minutes. My Cyber Cafe looses enough business on that behalf to pay for the service of an extra ISP as a backup - provided I don't have to also pay for an extra phoneline. Each time so far, the green lights on my rooter/modem have told me that the connnection is okay, but CSLoxInfo's server is not (SYN on, DATA off).

So my questions go like this:

    1) Can I get ADSL from two different providers on the same phoneline? - If no, why not?

    2) If yes, can my router/modem handle such a situation? - If no, why not?

It would be okay if it could not utilise both ISP's at the same time, but it certainly would not be okay if it couldn't work at all.

My rooter calls itself "Belkin Wireless G Rooter with Built in ADSL-modem".It has a lot of user configurable features, but no setup option has anything to do with handling more than one Internet "channel".

    DragonStar

as lomatopo pointed out u need seperate phone lines.

what you need is a router with 2 wan ports .

with such a router and 2 dsl connections u can balance your internet traffic between them...

even if one of them failed, the other would take the load...

  15. I dont really think it would be worth getting a degree in IT from a Thailand University, Firstly everyone in every other country is going to think you bought it on Khao San Rd.  Secondly education here is nowhere near the levels of Europe/US or Australia, why do you need the degree? you already have one, and if IT is your passion you probably wont be learning anything new.

    hi ben...

thanks a lot for your comments...

the main fact is i intend to work in thailand.

i am looking at taking up some job here....

going thru the job sites i see they require someone with atleast a bachelors degree in computers.....

i think for getting work within thailand it wouldnt be wise to use a khao san degree....

  16. hello all....

im a foreigner in thailand.....living here since the last 2 years....

im 22 years old having a comerce degree and doing some trading activities....

its about time now that i must make my passion my full time work (IT).

i plan to get a computer science degree from a reputable institute here...(3.5 to 4 years)

the main question is how is the job market here.....

    1) are the companies willing to hire foreigners?

    2) how much of an advantage is it to be fluent in english?

    3) how much to expect? in case there are ppl in the IT industry here pls comment.

    4) is a bachelors degree in IT or telecomunications enough?

    5) im not good at speaking thai.....is that a very important issue?

im looking more along the lines of system mantainance/administration....not a coder.

these issues may have been discussed here.....but i couldnt get much help on search.....

looking forward to some helpful comments....

    thanks.

  17. from their forum :-

    > Is there an tutorial for configuring the program to

    > copy php files?

What do you mean "copy php files"?  PHP generally generates regular HTML so

there is often no problem, even with the default HTTrack settings.

You can't download the actual PHP code if that's what you mean.
