Thai ppl bought their food, fish, meat, coconut milk and other wet or liquid stuff long before the arrival of plastic bags. Why can't they do it now? It is a learning process but in the end they get used to it.

Saw a foreigner the other day in a Tops supermarket. He had no bag, didn't want to buy a non-plastic one, didn't want a free cardboard box. He wanted several plastic bags. What a performance he gave. Don't know the outcome.

Go to Europe and you will find that pedestrians have right of way on Zebra crossings. It took me a while to understand that I don't have to wait for the car to pass but the car or bus will actually stop for me to cross.

However, bicycles behave the way motor bikes do in Thailand.

They sold coconut milk before plastic bags were invented. What container did they use then? Customers brought their own container. What's wrong with bringing your own?

Get a non-imm O ME from a Thai embassy/consulate where you live. You need to be over 50 and show finance in an account somewhere in the world. I needed to show 20,000€ in Nov. at RT Vienna embassy. Visa fee was 175€.

Yes the VE flag counts entries over all time. It’s then up to the IO to check the records to see how much time was spent in the country over the last year or so. It’s just a flag (guide) to alert the possibility the visitor is mis-using VE to live/work in the country.

This 180 day rule applies in many countries incl. Schengen area. Why should Thailand not apply it?

If he was not able to get a non-o visa prior to arriving he could apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration based upon qualifying for an extension of stay based upon retirement. Then he could get the one year extension during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry.

Immigration will not issue a non immigrant visa for a family member of a person who has an extension based upon retirement.The family member would then have to go out for a single entry non-o visa at a nearby embassy or consulate. It could be done after the visa is issued by immigration to the one getting it based upon retirement.

We recently applied for non O visa ME in Austria. Although the website didn't state it, they wanted twice proof of 20.000€. Not the website shown 5.000€ ea.

Rules differ depending where you apply.

When I did mine, I went to the police department that does this near Siam BTS, filled in the application form, they took the finger prints, paid a fee and returned a few weeks later to collect the certificate.

 

Not complicated at all.

 

 

Did you need a letter from embassy etc. to say why you need a police clearance? Or did you require any other docs? I would go to police HQ in person. Tks.

I have never ever had more to do with immigration other than fill in TM6. I didn't open the uninvited email but it was about (from the bit I can read without opening) about taking over landlord's duties to do TM30. This can only come from having stolen or harvested email address from TM6 in my case. 

While I don't have a lot of time for the Brit. embassy I do know that they do give assistance to Brits who need assistance. Your Father's case will not be the first case of that kind. Get in touch with them. They can also give you guidance how to deal with legal issues. 

If you feel they are of no use, look at what some of the posters would do. Btw, I remember your earlier topic about your Father.

They did it for me at the airport when leaving. IO called another officer over to do it. No fee.

Was your one a 1 year Longstay non-O ME as a pensioner? (UK also had the facility for non-O ME by showing a state pension letter).

Yes, it was a Non-O longstay. Previous Year we needed to show only 5000€.

I have not misread but had to provide the requested proof. It is not on their website but they ask for it. Go and find out.

I applied there in previous years when it was different.

My recent experience at Thai Embassy Vienna a requirement of 20,000 € or equivalent in a bank anywhere in the world or a 1,500 €/month pension. This was for a NON-O ME visa. Rules seem to have changed. 

I recently left with new and old p.port. Immi at BKK entered the stamp into new p.port. I had also letter from my embassy. Left and entered twice with old and new p.port. No problem at all.

I was at a Thai consulate in Austria today and I overheard the advice a tourist visa applicant received: have 20.000 Baht in cash. Do not have it in another currency. Also proof of hotel reservation is requested.
