There are no changes for getting a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or over for retirement.
You confusing it with a NON-OA visa that requires higher financial proof and insurance (after the 30st of October).
For non-O visa (ME) I had to show 20.000€ in a bank or 2000€/month income 2 weeks ago in Austria. Was told that these are new requirements, however not yet officially published. Will come soon. Beware.

How long can I stay in the US as a tourist legally? 90 days?
Europe is 90 days in 180 days, within Schengen area it is 90 days in 180 days for the whole of Schengen. No hopping from country to country.
Thailand is following the trend. Why shouldn't they?

That visa is not meant to be used to live in the country so arguably it's not the "proper visa". It's for people that live outside Thailand that want to visit multiple times within a 1 year period. Hopefully immigration will keep allowing it's use for the foreseeable future, but they are getting harder to get and IMO the days are numbered.
Fund requirements have gone up to 20.000€. I just applied for non-O multi entry.

Your attitude will become the norm eventually for many. But in all honesty, southern Thai have always been a little rude and the ultimate hot heads, but Krabi you could not pay me to live in. It is a very beautiful place in parts, but AO Nang is a dung hole now and was only beautiful over 20+++ years ago. And the ongoing saga of will immigration pull another one out of their rear end to taunt us is a stress. We have been replaced by the come and go Chinese so no longer needed.
Replaced by Chinese who spent money and who don't haggle over a few satang.

This is so laughable. The flight ticket from UK to Thailand costs more than the average junior immigration official starting salary or is close to it. Average Thai salary is only about 16000 Baht. So if the officials are able to live here how come tourists flying from Europe could not?! You could live easily with less than $300 per month in
300$ for housing and food?
This is called max. austerity

I have brought into Thailand , thru Swampy ,6 months supply of two prescription medicines on many occasions. Always in carry on luggage and never been asked/searched once. Both are available here but terribly expensive. The Australian PBS helps with the cost.
There is always a first time.

Mine is 6 months, it used to be 12 months. Expat insurance?? The matter at hand is health insurance, which is more than adequately covered by my card insurance, plus I get travel parts as well.
Don't overlook that health insurance linked to credit cards won't keep you in Thailand for 6 months but ship you home to go on your NHS care or whatever you call it in your country.

I went to apply for a new visa non-imm O ME based on retirement today. Location Austria.
I had all documents and financial proof listed on the website.
Although they still show 5000 € per person, I was told that it is now 20,000€ which can be made up of pension plus bank deposit or only bank deposit or pension only. Luckily, I could show the 20,000.
My question why the website still shows 5000 € I was told that the increased amount is not yet official but it is inofficially required. It will become official on 1 Nov..
I posted this just to make others to be aware that a higher amount may be required.

Thank you. I`m not so sure living in a rural area is my cup of tea. I am kind of a city person and was thinking living in BKK would be more suitable.
Well paying international schools in Bangkok are unlikely to employ you without a degree. Salaries and conditions with others (no degree) vary widely.
You will not have a to worry about too much money to spend.
Healthcare should be part of the package.

The 40,000 baht outpatient insurance requirement reveals to me that this is an intelligent and well thought out policy.
Joke or do you mean it?

For an extension of stay based upon marriage there is no allowance for a parent to get an extension.
The police order only allows an extension for children. From clause 2.18 of the police order.
"(4) In the case of children, adopted children, or spouse's children, said children, adopted children, or spouse's children must not be married, must live with the alien as part of the family, and must not be over 20 years of age except in case of the person hereof is of illness or disability and cannot live without support of father or mother:"
For an extension based upon retirement and others under clause 2.20 of the police order that is for family member to get extensions it is allowed. "(5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must be 50 years of age or over."
I accept what you say.
However, a friend of mine piggybacks on her son: he was married to a Thai, has 2 adult kids.
At first both his parents piggybacked, now it is just his mother. She has been here for 12 years.
May be rules changed?

See www.integrity-legal.com or search for many videos about expats insurance and other matters. Suggest you reconsider your relocating as the 500,000 baht per year won't get you here. Yes, if you were here you could 'exist' on your budget but without enough income to start with you may never be able to get a retirement visa. Suggest a couple of long term tourist visits to talk with local expats and get to up to date information first hand.
Op can apply for non-imm O multi entry and doesn't need 800.000 in a local bank. Only downside is that he needs to leave every 90 days.

500,000 Thb is not an awful lot to live in a city. Don't forget the money you require for ret. ext. to your visa is 800.000 Bht or 65,000/month.

I would cancel my trip for now or just come for a holiday.
A reputable school gives you the docs to obtain a visa.

Some have also done a statement that hey are retired at the embassy.
It think the consulates in Penang and Savannakhet have gotten a bit more flexible now for the proof of retirement.British Embassy doesn't provide any proof of retirement
That's correct. However, Brits get a letter from Work&Pensions every year about increase or no increase of pension. Germans send a similar letter. This is accepted as proof of retirement at the Thai consulate back home. Finance is another proof e.g. bank statement.

I required flight ticket last year applying in Austria. Also needed it years ago when applying in Munich. This requirement has been around for a while.

In most countries old age pensioners pay less, in Thailand they will pay more!
Why should Thaiand give special prices to non-Thai pensioners? My home country doesn't do it for their own nationals. Or do you get discounted treatment in your home country?

"1st; Cambodia is NOT cheaper than thailand, You'll need a 1 year extension ( are you over 55?) thats $300/year. If your not over 55, how will you get a 1 year extension unless your working> You could get an EG ( looking for work) 6 month extension but after 7 months u need reapply an start all over."
I lived and worked in Siem Reap some years ago. Even then Cambodia was expensive. Our modest company paid house cost 1000 $US. You get way more for it in Bangkok nowadays. Sure you can eat cheaply at the local market if you have a very robust digestive system.
Siem Reap is a tourist town, prices are aimed at tourists. You will pay those tourist prices too.
If your income is in £££, you need to convert to US$. Will that be better than converting to Baht?
I doubt one week in S.R. will actually be sufficient to see that the grass is not greener ......

I have the funds, but I am not using to have my pocket plenty of cash..
they even deny entry when we have the cash.. still thinking we're taking a job of thai people
20.000 THB is peanuts in real money e.g. in Euro. And 20x1000 Baht notes fit easily in a normal purse.

EU Passport, he is in Bangkok. Obviously the cheapest option is best. He prefers to go by land but can fly if required, but only to a neighbouring country. I updated the original post to include all answers to your questions.
EU p.port means nothing. Some EU citizens do not get 30 visa waiver.
Go and check online if he is entitled to one.

"Gave me back one of each passport and visa copy, and the printed Tax ID. I signed his register"
When they printed the "TAX ID" were you handed a card or a piece of paper? I am trying to stop withholding tax at my bank and although I have previously filed and received a refund the bank manager would not accept the Tax ID number from my refund paperwork. He says I need to go to the tax office and get an tax ID CARD but I never remember getting a card when I filed for a tax number 3 years ago.
You should get a card when you apply. Got one in Tax Office in Bkk, Pathumwan.
