OP is devoid of all responsibility. He lived here for 4 years knowing he could be arrested and deported at any time leaving all of his Thai life behind. No sense of loyalty to friends, lovers or work colleagues, as they could/would have all been discarded in an instant, or worse, burdened with his criminality. Pretty unsavoury one might say. OP dd not made any crime, overstay is no crime it is a offence! And the maximum fine is 20000 baht and for sure there are situations in life that some peopel decide for overstay. But it is their decision, they not hurt anybody, not harmed anybody.

All the people who are here on ED Visa only because the only way to stay in Thaland, or to go to the border every month for Visaruns and pay the schoold or Visarun companys a lot og money, sorry I would choose overstay also.

And there are nobody went to prison because of overstay, people who went to priison and deported have been here with complete no money, or made soft crimes. Now most of TV members do like overstay is the worsed thing what somebody in Thailand can do.

It is 10 million baht brought into the country invested in a condo or government bonds or in a fixed deposit account or a mixture of all of them to get a one year extension of stay (not a visa)..

and after 1 year you have to leave or buy another condo for 10 Million?

I dont know how all the time bring up this nonsense, 25 hours per week even not have a university student with different subjects,

Hey I don't necessarily  agree  with higher prices but its up to the restaurant what they charge If people don't like the price then don't go there This is not a police matter

this is a straight forward matter for the people

 

If you don't go the restaurant will eventually lower prices or not stay open. This is free enterprise

It is not about that a restaurant set the prices but this kind of bussiness use different Menu´s

with different prices, and this restaurants are not living from regular customers only from walk in on the beach,

this is stealing and robbery !!  they should loose their license and of course they not pay any tax for their turn over, 

and the owner also not have any chance to controll his stav, all the money will go in the pocket of the staff, 

when you have different prices no controll. 

this restaurants should be closed and the owners should loose the right to work in this kind of bussiness for 10 years

There are two expiration dates you have to keep track of.

A double entry tourist visa usually is good for use for six months after it is issued. If you want to make use of the second entry, you must exit and re-enter Thailand before the "use by" or expiration date printed on the visa you obtained at an embassy or consulate outside of Thailand.

When you enter Thailand at an airport or border the first time, you get a stamp showing how long you are permitted to stay in the Kingdom on this entry. 60 days for a tourist visa. You have to watch this date and apply for the 30 day extension or leave the country by that date. If you get a 30 day extension, you must then leave the country on or before this date on the second permission stamp in your passport.

So you must exit the country before the extension of your permission to stay runs out and you must come back into Thailand before the visa expires.

Once you make the second entry on a double entry visa, it is dead and used up and its expiration date is meaningless. Then the only date you need to concern yourself with is the latest permission to stay stamp and, if you apply for an extension, the subsequent extension of stay stamp, by which time you must leave.

Now for all the people who give wrong advise: DONT DO THIS ! if you dont know!

you must reenter Thaiiland not after 90 days after your double entry tourist Visa was issud, this date is clear on your Visa!

on a triple entry it is 180 days

Remember your Visa starts and therefore expires from the date it was issued, NOT the date you entered Thailand, for example if your Visa was issued 5th June and you entered Thailand on the 20th June your Visa would expire 60 days after 5th June not 60 days after the 20th.

Well, you are not him/her, you're the applicant. You only have to prepare an application that is spotless, and with that I mean that "it looks good" literally.

 

Clearly written. dates matching. Forms filled in full, clear copies, "back-up documents" kept separated to not add confusion, and given only if asked. If using a bank account get the letter the same day, make sure you have not  used it at all for the previous three months. Just use a separate account for any other need. Dress nicely, what about skipping the nasty bermuda and sandals for a day. 

 

And finally why worrying before he fact. First, you get the information. Then you prepare and present the application. If it is refused, take exact note of what has to be corrected, fix it and you will be all set.

But ...

Let's say you are staying with your Thai wife in Europe and plan the next year or more in Thailand.

You apply for a single entry Non O in Europe.

You fly to Thailand and your plan is to apply for a 1 year extension after two months (?) and then you find out that your source of income is not suitable to get a letter - or even worse gets rejected by Thai immigration.

That is a big risk to take.

So ... I don't like it but I have to "worry" before taking the next steps.

Well, what might this plan B be then? A multiple entry Non O based on marriage? With border runs? Border runs is not exactly a save way to stay in Thailand at the moment (how can we know when they crackdown on border runs on an Non O?).

 

Oh, and on a sidenote: I am always dressed appropriate ... at immigration or in a pub or elsewhere ;-)

 

if you have a non o 1 year multi entry visa, why they should crack down you?

if you scare like this then dont come to thailand, they can crack down extension also, 

when you have a non o visa then you already in Embassy give all nessesary papers and they should proved it, 

and that it is law to leave the country every 90 days is the problem of thailand, you not break any law if you cross the border and come back.

It would be a lot simpler to give 90 days visa exempt on entry. Less paperwork. Less hazzle. After all no real checks are done when applying for a visa. Too simple.

Simple? where? I had to go 3 times to prague 1. for apply for tourist visa,

2. they called me the thai officer want to do an interview

in Prague Thai Embassy you can only apply in Person and pick up in Person,

and this was for a stay of 37 days,

First and last time I made tourist Visa in prague and this is only 1 hour from my home,

2 years later I wrnt to Minic Consulat it take 2 minutes for a NON O Multi entry 1 year,

i had to schow 5000 Euro, costs 130 Euros, thats all, but drive to and back was 10 hours,

all Embassys, Consulats in Eu have different rules, I not found 2 places with the same,

so you also know before you come to thailand what country you are going,

make a law in Thailand what is for everybody the same, may be peopel will start to respect

In other words 'discrimination based on nationality'. This is not such wonderful news for Australians, Americans, and Canadians, just to name a few nations which have well-supported Thailand's tourism industry for years.

yes finally the US boys get discriminated same EU people who have to give their bussiness shares of 51 % as a gift to thai people if they want to make a legal bussines here. And US People not! What are you talking about? You do get a Thailand Elite Visa. And people have posted pictures of them. Quite a few people have purchased them on here.

there is not Thai elite visa, there is a thai elite membership card, but anyway you have to make a visa at

Thai Embassy, because the only places who can give you a visa is a Embassy or a Consulate, nobody else,

and in Thai Law, what i think is vallid here in Thailand there is no Thai Elite Visa written in the kinds of visas

Thai Elite visa doesn't give you the right to work either. You would have to apply for a separate work permit.

The one year license is a provisional, the five year license is a full license which is granted only after the one license has expired - the type of visa held by the drivers is irrelevant..

the type of visa is relevant, only Non O visa, you not get a thai driver license on Tourist Visa or Visa Extension

To get a Thai drivers license I simply went to the US Embassy ( as I had not a work permit) and signed and affidavit swearing my residence (as my wife and I keep an apartment here), then there is the usual medical certificate and our course the DL test itself, the only drawback was that by not having a WP my license is only good for one year and next extension is for only for one year, you need a WP to get the 5 years license I was told.

not true, there is no 1 year extension, extension is all the time 5 years, no work permitt needed, I beg for the day, people stop putting rumors on TV

No problem because if you are applying for the first time you will only get a one year visa whatever visa you have. Same for Thais for 1st DL.

 

However make sure you have a 1 year non-imm visa before renewing it and then you will get a 5 year DL if not you will get another 1 year.

then he not have any International DL so he has to make full test 

they check the VISA and the recidence certificate also certificate from doctor, 

recidence certificate will only be issued from Immigration with a NON O Visa

hey flying business class is expensive. And those 5 star hotels are a real killer. Now I dont have to go anywhere. Just sit in my beach side villa and no more visa runs. Man thank you Thailand Elite. Lifes good.

So all the people who are Elitemembers and not telling only bullshit, post a foto of your 5 year visa in your passport, I want to see something what doesnt exist in Thailaw, there is no 5 year Visa, but the foto would make every person happy who has a thai wife, because it means they do not have to show any funds on extension, because you cant force people to show money if want to stay with family and kids, but other people dont have to show and get  a 5 year visa, 

Why nobody of you THAI ELITES has the courage to show his 5 year visa? 

Let me give you an example of running a business in Thailand under the radar. My sons were recently on a diving holiday in Phuket and stayed at a really nice apartment in Karon booked through. AirbnB. This is a global website designed to let you avoid hotel costs by booking apartments.

This condo with sea view was one of three owned by a Russian woman. The stay cost less than half what a high end hotel would charge and as the booking took place in cyberspace no funds ever entered Thailand.

However to manage the apartments the Russian owner needs to stay in Thailand on tourist visas doing regular runs.

That loophole is now closed.

The same applies to all the Farangs running bars etc .

Very few countries in the world will allow visa abuse and Thailand is closing the door and rightly so.

this is not illegal!! everybody can buy condos by law and it is also not against the law to rent it out, so why it is right that the owners of condos have problem to get to their propertys? Anyway if somebody owns a condo on his name they cant block him from entering Thailand, only if they can prove that the person brake the law, like working illegal or connected with crimes.

If implemented correctly, I don't see this as a bad idea.  A few ideas off the top of my head.

1) All taxis must be meter taxis, no private taxis.  Tuk tuks must also use meters.

2) Drivers must use meters at all times and some sort of app tracks this as well as all units have to have gps tracking on at all times. If caught, first fine 50K baht, second fine, jail.

3) Fares lowered to just slightly over Bangkok rates.

4) Drivers education and training mandatory, as well as must be able to pass a stringent test on driving ability as well as knowledge of the island roads, same as in London.

etc.

 

Set an enforced deadline to have the whole island using meters.  Anyone not using a meter at all times after this loses their license and can't apply again for 10 years.

this is only to make a big money on selling new cars, some body get 5 % this is 100.000.000 Baht good commision for selling cars + 3 - 5 % commision for the bank loan

 

Awesome just applied for apec business card, thats going to be super useful. Seems like it still doesn't make sense to get the elite card, unless they put more restrictions on the non imm - B visa.

 

As a current Non-Immigrant B holder, my guess is that they're going to start denying entry to Non-Immigrant B holders who don't have a Thai work permit (I seriously doubt a Thai Immigration officer has ever been reprimanded for being overzealous).

 

That's why I'm applying for the Thai Elite 500KThB option next week.
 

 

what are you writing? you dont need a work permit to make bussiness in thailand, if you own a bussiness or you conduct bussiness than you only need a Non B,, only if you work for a company in Thailand, get paid by a company in thailand for work done in thailand, you need a work permit, 

and if you have the elite card, you brake the law, because then you are not on a bussiness Visa and then can deport you and black list, 

Elite card is a big scam you still need to apply for a Non O visa at thai embassy with the elite card, and with non O you are not allowed to do anything than stay in thailand, for sure no work or bussiness
