  1. I've stayed at nearly every hotel in Pattaya and Hua Hin. Ask me of you want to know

I stayed at searidge resort in hua hin. What do you think of that place?

    Never stayed there.

Wut!!? And you claimed to have stayed in nearly every hotel in hua hin. Maybe you mean budget hotel?

Searidge is like a serviced apartment?? We don't go in for those and we have kids so they like the pools and kids clubs in hotels like Intercon, Sheraton, Dusit, Hilton, Sofitel and Amari to name just a few.

Sorry kurnell... Ain't no Sofitel in Hua Hin... Been a while now.. Jus sayin wink.png

Sounds like he probably made it up. He claims he slept in every hotel in pattaya and hua hin and now claims he stays in those 4-5 star places with many amenities that sure doesn't sound like what every hotel in those 2 places offer.

I don't know if it's a service apartment maybe it was but the point was they have a swimming pool and it's a nice one, a gym, a restaurant and other facilities that hotels have. They have cleaners that come everyday and i had a nice kitche, living room, 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms one with a bathtub in it so it's definitely not low so.

  3. Agoda is good. It has customer reports/feedback of every hotel in Thailand. Ive always used them and never an issue.

Krisb, when Agoda gives you a price for a hotel room, they do not include the extra taxes. They are in the small print. Why? Because they hope you will not notice it. If Agoda was a decent company, they would give you the price you pay without this add on nonsense.

Dude they will list you the final price before you make payment. it's all good agoda seems to be the only company that allows paypal as a form of payment. It's not the cheapest all the time and booking.com might be cheaper but they do have those flash prices that come up sometimes on some hotels.

  4. One more thing i would like to add in. I lived in the US for a couple of years. Stayed in a college town and well i rented an apartment and i remember my bathroom having no drainage system at all. Yup that's right when you spill water on the floor you better hope it dries up and cleaning it was tough.

Now when i stayed with a girl at her apartment in thailand it was called life condo i think at soi 10 her bathroom didn't have the drain too. So i suppose cleaning it was a bitch.

At least most hotels that i stayed in thailand have drains i cannot remember if that is the case for american homes but one thing i hate about american homes is that they don't have gates. You can just walk up to a house and knock on the front door. At my home in singapore we have a gate and a garden all fenced up and the fence is with a brick wall with a nice design not some ugly picket fence mind you while i noticed most american homes don't have that cos of some stupid law.

  5. I put brackets around the word sophistication because i don't really know what to call it. I am not sure if actually makes english more sophisticated but i guess it does make it appear to sound more advanced i suppose.

I guess this is one of the reasons english may be difficult to non native speakers of the language. When new words are created or borrowed english borrows the words from another language rather than combine 2 english words together to form the new word.

Take thai or chinese for example. Say the mandarin word for butter is the combination of 2 other chinese words. Cow + oil. Go and google for the chinese word "butter" then google each of those words seperately you'll find that it's cow and oil. In short the mandarin and i believe it's the same for all the other chinese dialects word of "butter" is cow oil. It's also the same for thai i believe. Say mobile phone in thai is a combination of i think talk + something else.

I hope you guys know what i mean here. It's also the same for latin i believe. Latin creates new words by combining 2 latin words together and english borrows those words instead to create a new vocabulary in english rather than combining 2 english words together. I don't really have any examples to show though i didn't do much research on it.

I am sure those of you who are proficient in thai know what i mean by combining 2 thai words together to create a new one while english words rarely do that.

Mobile phone doesn't sound too advanced though they should have created a totally new word for this type of phone.

I wonder if there is a term to describe this phenomnon in the english language.

  6. “Would I be unhappy to leave my home?”, yes I think so. Thailand is not so much an amazing place for me, as a comfortable and familiar place.smile.png

Welcome to the REAL WORLD of the A_S_E_A_N!

Thailand definitely has the best overall (affordable) infra-structure, compared to other SE Asian nations. However, it is still Asia, with ALL the similar, "smoke & mirrors" nuances associated with Asian cultures. Thailand is no more than what YOU (and YOUR Western based bank account) make of it,...... including the "familiar" places. The only true familial lifestyles available to "farangs", are those brought to Thailand. The Russians understand that fundamental principle quite well.

Now, with all things of the foregoing considered, if you're looking for a real "stand-up", reliable and trustworthy friend (withinin Thai culture), then you are best-advised to: goto a petstore,.......buy a dog. Hence, the rest of your "farang" life in Thailand, will be a "walk-in-the-park". Cheers, mate smile.png

SEA still lags behind east asia definitely.

  7. the real question here is "does the blether need thaivisa forum?".the answer to this is a resounding yes

The best idiot is a useful idiot.

Useful idiots are ideal for forums. They help to keep things ticking over.

It works best when the idiot doesn't realize just how useful he is.

If you operate forums, never neglect your useful idiots. Feed them a carrot or two, or perhaps click their "like" buttons.

Give them the space they need to tell you why they're the best in their chosen field. Grant them the opportunity to reveal why they stand out. Humor them. Bait them from time to time, but be careful not to lose them.

And always refrain from any discussion that may highlight the emptiness of their sad existence.

    lord have mercy!

  8. Agoda is good. It has customer reports/feedback of every hotel in Thailand. Ive always used them and never an issue.

That's right and they offer you 500 points for a review of the hotel.

I prefer trip advisor though i mean i read reviews on agoda but i still cross check with TA. Also the photos of the rooms in agoda are heavily touched up making them look much better than they really are. TA's pics are submitted by the guests themselves so the pics are more accurate.

  9. Wow all heart warming stories here but this is so uncommon from what we read about kids who have a new step parent. Usually they get ill treated or neglected.

Wonder if it's cause the dads in here are mostly foreigners and might face problems with their marriage to their thai wives in which they would mostly be at the losing end.

I noticed that most of these stories are with the dads residing in thailand and not their thai wives going off to live with them in their country.

  10. Why would people who live in Thailand (on a daily basis) be qualified to do reports on hotels? The vast majority of people who live in Thailand permanently live in houses or condos. The people who post on tripadvisor are the ones with experience staying in hotels.

I lived in Hotels for 15 months before I got my own place in Bangkok, do I qualify?

Thanks for telling it. Yes it's no doubt that ppl that reside in thailand for a long time most likely wouldn't be staying in a hotel but have a house or some apartment but the fact of the matter is most of the ppl in this forum are foreigners and being so would have stayed in a hotel at some point in time so asking ppl here on what hotels to stay in is perfectly reasonable. Makes much more sense than asking a group of thai village farmers the same question. The chances of them staying in hotels in thailand would be much much lower.

  11. God forbid such a thing.

Would lead mods having to spend 100 % if there time deleting posts.

Oh the arguements I can already here.

Hotels/guest houses and whatever you are looking for as a place to stay are always a personal choice.

We are all individuals and have different expectations of what we think a hotel should be.

In my experience the best hotels are always the ones you dont find on the internet but by word of mouth or by exploring.

As the poster says above trip advisor for sure will give you some idea.

But do you know the person reporting on the accomidation??

yup you make sense i was expecting you know a place where ppl that gather here can discuss more on it cos some ppl live in thailand on a daily basis so they would know better than say tripadvisor.

These hotels sites reviews are based on individuals opinions too.

cos i am sure they stayed in hotels before.
