  1. Read again, more careful this time: "The BMW owner, 35, has been charged with using fake license plates. If convicted, she faces up to five years in jail and a maximum fine of 10,000 baht."

The majority of accidents (70%) is relevant to risks described by the EN115-2 (Safety of escalators and moving walks – Part 2: Rules for the improvement of safety of existing escalators and moving walks) standard, also known as SNEE (Safety Norm for Existing Escalators): slipping on steps/pallets/belt and on landings 28% – (1 fatal) falling from a landing 19% – (1 fatal) entrapment between skirting and steps 10% entrapment between combs steps/ballets/belt 5% entrapment at handrail entry points 5% improper use of an escalator to move a shopping cart 5% entrapment between steps or pallets 2% climbing the balustrade 1% – (1 fatal) crushing fingers between handrail and balustrade 1% falling due to stopping distance being too short 2% others 12%. 3. Before blaming any people or any mechanical device we need to know if the travelator was blessed by the monks.
  4. I strongly doubt that Hitachi would have their own engineers doing the maintenance. The Thai labour laws do not allowing foreigners to do a job that a Thai can do. Hitachi can learn Thai people to do the maintenance and then leave it to the Thai.
  5. During work at my previous company, I was ordered to design a "complete monkey proof" pallet wrapper. The engineering team put their heads together and designed a pallet wrapper that was enclosed by a cage and could not work if the cage was open or the operator was inside the cage. A few weeks later we ware called because there was an accident with the wrapper. The operator had disabled all security devices and had entered the wrapper while it was running. Luckily for the operator someone pushed the emergency stop and nothing really nasty happened. Never underestimate the mind of a stupid. Nothing can be fool proof for them.
  6. Forward thinking seems to got lost in the last generation. That's why you see warnings like "Don't drink the battery fluid" on batteries and other warnings you would never had think about 30 years ago. Sad but true.
  7. I think that you are forgetting how most big companies work. AOT pays HITACHI for the installation AND the maintenance of the travelators. So, IF anybody should be sued, it would be HITACHI and not AOT.
  8. Travelators and escalators are equipped with a power detector which detects when the system is forced to deliver more power than designed in normal use (an object blocking the travelator, a misalignment of the steps, etc.). In such cases, the power is switched OFF to avoid further damages to the installation. Same technique is used un elevators to detect if the maximum weight is passed.
  9. The aot did not published the CCTV movie ...
  10. That would have worked out a few decades ago, but today you can hit a policeman in the face and beat the s...t out of him and the policeman will be punished.
  11. Should a walkway/escalator/whatever not be "Monkey Proof"? I had engineered several items in my carreer and all of them required a "Monkey Proof" test. PS.: Not saying that Thais are equal to Monkeys.
  12. A lot of "sue them" and over-specialised answers to this thread but nobody cares about "the loss of image to this beautiful country" by this accident. Where are the regular posters in this forum with their "happens everywhere in the world"? Not only in Thailand. Speedy recovery to this woman.
  13. Nobody blame the barking dog for who the kid was trying to escape? Strange ...
  14. I was at The Mall in Nakhon Ratchasima a few days ago, and in one of these "Beauty Clinics" the had a special offer for face laser epilation for man and woman at 999 Baht. This seems very low priced and I would like to go on with that. The prospectus of never have to shave again is tempting. Did any members of ASEANNOW had a laser have experience with this and how are the results?
  15. Then, I suggest that these members who are offended join a group who cares about this (name is in the title) and use their time to save these poor souls instead wasting their time in this group. Just like I did many years ago.
  16. In 1976, I suffered a bursted appendix, but didn't pay too much attention to it. Only, after 3 days, I had a terrible belly ache and I went straight to the hospital. The diagnose was a bursted appendix and a dangerous level of white blood cells. Thee doctors started immediatly with surgery and I was kept in an artificial induced Coma for 1 month. Luckely, I did keep all my limbs.
  17. What I don't understand, is the outrage of some members over this "Catching of underaged girls into prostitution". Everytime something like this happens, it is only because of some NGO making an official complaint and forcing the Police to send a few man to look at this. Otherwise, NOBODY of the Police would be bothered with this and as long as the bar/karaoke owners fill the brown enveloppes everything is fine. The Police will even do an inspection with the full force trough Walking Street in Pattaya without finding a single prostitute. There are tens/hundred thousend underaged girls in Thailand, working every day in the sex industry. Many of them against their own will or forced by their parents out of poverty. Why is the RTP not doing their job and protect these children? They might satisfy the few members of this group that are outraged by this behavior in Thailand.
  18. Exactly this, a social field worker, was my side job in Belgium. Had a few girls/woman who went it work in a bar at the shipyards in order to make money for their pimp. Nothing that I could change without risking my own life.
  19. This is a copy of a declaration of a 12 year old school girl to the authorities: "x" says some of her friends sell their bodies. "x" says that some of her friends go regularly to Pattaya to sell their body. "x" says that most of the girls in school have an ID-Card where their age is 18 years. "x" knows that in Thailand you can easily earn money by selling your body. Someone "x" knows has HIV and "x" looked it up and knows that one gets it by having sex. "x" is afraid of this. According to "x", life is hard in Thailand. There is little work. "x" her mother also first worked as a farmer, but then went to work as a dancer in a bar in Pattaya. "x" is afraid she'll have to make a decision like that too.
  20. And what do you suggest for "rescue" them? Sending them back to the rice fields where they can work their "a..." out under the hear of the sun for a few baht a day? Don't try to be holier than tho.
  21. Bull<deleted>. Look into TikTok and other Social Media sites how many girls, some of them way below the age of 18 are making "sexy" clips, just to earn money Not one of them are forced to do this. Many of them are schoolgirls doing this in groups. Go to "NaughtyThai" and watch how many underaged or just above the underage are exposing themselves in clad pictures. I strongly doubt that these girls wanted to be "rescued" and sent back to the rice fields.
  22. Nearly 2 decades ago, I witnessed a whole family selling the virginity of their daughter in a public parc in Korat. The daughter, I guess somewhere between the 12 to 15 years old, was dressed as a bargirl and showing a lot of "Flesh" to atract the buyers. After 1 hour, a deal was set and she went with an old China man to lose her virginity. Coming home, I asked my wife why this was going on and she answerred: "That is a common thing in Thailand. The girl will lose her virginity anyhow to the first boy who turns her on, so better try to make some money of it for the family."
  23. I was a few years ago in Belgium for a surgery aand I noticed the same as you. Hugely obese people on mobile scooters, workers doing everything with machines or some utils to make the workload easier, etc. I could hardly see anybody handling a shovel on the road works. All was done by "Bobcat" and other mechanic tools. The cartoon where 20 people are discussing how to do the work and 1 man doing the real work comes to mind. The reality of this is that the people in the Western countries can afford and have the luxury to buy these devices which makes them lazier and fat due to the lack of exercise. Most of the Western countries have created their own demise.
  24. Arabic: “Ana behibak” (male) or “Ana behibek” (female) Cambodian: “Soro lahn nhee ah” Czech: “Miluji te” Danish: “Jeg elsker dig” Spanish – mi amor. French – mon amour. Italian – amore mio. Portuguese – meu amor. Chinese (Mandarin) – 我的爱人 (wǒ de àirén) Korean – 내 사랑 (nae sarang) Russian – моя любовь (moya lyubov') Thai - Do you have a house? Can you support me, my children, my parents, my brothers and sisters, my extended family, etc.? Can you buy an SUV or a pick-up for me?
