  1. notice how iraq is happier than laos by a few places.

ever been to singapore on chinese new year? all the singaporeans in the street wishing each other a happy new year and no one so much as cracks even a smile. singapore is rated considerably higher than the ever smiling thais. compare thai new year = songkran water screaming barbarism. 555

one wonders what these UN staffers actually do know about happiness. perhaps if they did a ranking on corruption and offshore tax free hidden bank accounts it would be more up their alley.

Thailand is great in almost all ways, they smile from the top to the bottom in nearly every way

    Yes, because smiling = happiness.

Man are ye new to Thailand. biggrin.png

    A big no mate.

Sure. You were trying to find out how many 15 day border runs you could do only a few months ago as you were almost maxed out with 4. :D

  2. The coward has already changed hus plea and accepted the charge this single action gets him a 50% reduction on his jail time. It also means he will not serve more than 4 years in a Thai prison before bring sent home yo supposedly spend more time locked up. I say supposedly as often the sentence is quashed as soon ad they get back.

    Time off for remand, too.

Farang murderers in Thailand usually get less than 3 years anyway, though I doubt with the media presence he'll do so well should he be convicted.

(He has at this stage only admitted killing him without intent, not actually to murder).

  3. Former Bangkok governor candidate Kosit Suvinitjit was on the flight and even though he didn’t join the complainants at Suvarnabhumi airport he agreed with them.

"I would have liked to have seen more ground staff helping passengers. There should have been interpreters in several languages to inform passengers of the situation, as many were tourists," he said.

Thailand: Needs to be ASEAN Hub of airport interpreters despite restrictions on non-Thais.

Kosit, you have a new slogan for the next election.

  4. A friend of mine recently told me that when he went to Phuket Land Transport Office he was told that he could only renew his initial DL for one year as he was on a Tourist Visa. He was told that if he had a long stay visa he would have been issued with a 5 year extension.

Yeah, we went to transfer a bike into my name. The officer told us the docs were insufficient, we need x, y and z.

After 2 weeks of tracking down x,y and z we went back. The next officer took the original documents and did it all in 5 mins. x,y and z were still in our folder.

Thailand and Thais. They never leave you bored.

  5. You need a NOn O visa and a work permit and a work pemit or residencce certificate from immigration.

    Incorrect.

Different officials may work by their own rules because they do not know them though, or perhaps just do not care about them and enjoy refusing a farang as it makes them feel a little bit of power over them, which may help with their Thai emotional issues.

I do not know where you got that information. The rules are extremely clear here.

He is correct! They work to their own rules. I did not need a medical, or certified address from the Embassy, and I got a 6 year licence without a practical test even though my last licence expired 6 years previously. If you speak Thai and be polite Thailand becomes the land of all possibilities. The licence was issued in 2010 and is valid until Nov 2016.

I've gotten Thai DL's on a tourist visa. No WP or Non-Imm visa (obviously.)

"4. ORIGINAL MEDICAL CERTIFICATE (5 DISEASES FORM) FROM CLINIC OR HOSPITAL (VALID FOR 1 MONTH)"

Funnily enough the clinic the lady sent me to around the corner only asked me what colour a pen was. Red. Correct. Med cert stamped, the doctor could obviously tell I was clear of the five diseases just by that alone. :D

  6. First time 1 year temporary. DO NOT allow temporary licence expire! About 1 month before expiration can appy for another, if at time of application farang have NON-x VISA, he/she will be granted 5 years permanent.

    With both temporary and permanent

Drive legally (the main purpose of)

Use as ID for National parks

    Domestic Plane flights

In case you want sell out used mobile phone @ MBK shops glad to see it as ID, more trusted than passport.

That's not correct to start with, you need to let your 1yr expire before applying for the 5 year, as crazy as it sounds, go and see what happens if you turn up a month before chances are they will tell you to come back

Absolutely correct. To qualify for the renewal you have to have had a temporary license (the 1 yr one) for a one year period.

Thus is cannot be renewed until it expires. :)

btw, in other posts, I like how people consider their 12 month 'Extension of Temporary Stay' and '90 day Permission of Temporary Stay' a 'long term visa'. :D

  7. Why is it that I have managed to live in Thailand for many years without being subjected to "scams" ?

Why have I not been targeted ?

I demand to be scammed I am a foreigner !

Perhaps because it's difficult to see a scam if you are blind.

I'm sure the visa-runners going in for their 500b one-day 'stamp', given in a little room full of border officials as they apparently need it if they are going and returning the same day ( laugh.png ) don't think they've ever been scammed.

"The poor border officials are so polite and friendly when giving you the one-day stamp, what a beautiful people. They're all so friendly and pleasant, scams?!? you must be a hater, I've never been scammed here ever!"

  8. This simply comes down to the fact that some people don't mind handing over money they don't in fact owe, and others do mind.

Close, but I think there are other factors... such as if the recipient is deserving of it or not.

    Examples:

Giving a decent tip to a decent waitress who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve you attentively and competently.

A corrupt, dishonest 'official' trying to scam/extort money from you because he believes that you as a farang are stupid and that he can.

Both would be handing over money you don't owe. I would do one, I wouldn't do the other. Some members on here oddly (and proudly) do both. huh.png
