  1. You need a NOn O visa and a work permit and a work pemit or residencce certificate from immigration.

    Incorrect.

Different officials may work by their own rules because they do not know them though, or perhaps just do not care about them and enjoy refusing a farang as it makes them feel a little bit of power over them, which may help with their Thai emotional issues.

  2. I just got back. Skip all the touts along the way and it's always 800 baht if you pay in baht. If you pay in dollars, they demand up to 200 baht extra AT the immigration window. Some of the corrupt police try to say things like: 'It' 300 baht if I stamp you out and you have to change 500 baht.' Just say, 'no I don't.' Then move on!!! They really don't care what you say or think. These corrupt police there have a very bad reputation, but no problems at the window when I've been there multiple times over the past several years.

Good to see they've dropped it from 1000b demands to 800b. I notice that as soon as they see you are not an idiot and you simply say no, they see your years of Non-Imm visas etc. all the nonsense is dropped and they just do their job.

I'll be buying a $20 note in one of the exchange places there and not paying a satang more than that to the corrupt officials. :)

  3. When you renew next time they will be valid for 5 years.

That's what the wifey said but apparently it's 1 year for farangs and 5 years for Thais.

I asked the wifey to go back and ask for sure and we were told the same. This is up in Sakon Nakhon (not that it makes any difference).

I actually thought I was part of the Thai society biggrin.png

    Incorrect.

She's probably been fed xenophobic lies by people who haven't a clue.

I was told by a nice intelligent Thai woman that my motorbike is very nice, but it's a shame that such a nice expensive vehicle cannot be owned by me. (with a smirk)

    What do you mean?

Because you cannot own anything here.

Oh right. (removes the pillion seat to show her the copy of the green book listing the motorbike in my name). I think somebody was joking with you. (with a smirk)

Thai woman gets angry, panics and walks away quickly.

After your 1 yr license is expired you simply renew it and are given a 5 yr one. If an idiot employee at the local DoLT says you as a foreigner cannot, take their name and number, and I'll PM you copies of both my 5 yr motorbike and car licenses. smile.png

  4. Ha!

Meanwhile what they are actually DOING is selecting the best English language students in each school and sending them to take the tests which rank the school (!!!). At least that is what is going on in the NE.

    It happened with my daughter.

After letting the Thai system have there way with her for the past 4 years, I am taking her out and homeschooling her again. When I put her in, she tested 2 grades above her peers. Earlier this year, she tested 2 grades behind her peers. Now, she's back to level with her international peers, which is of course FAR above her local peers.

Good luck to those who depend on this FAIL education system. At least those kids will know how to sweep floors, sing songs, and cheat...but not much else.

I have a young daughter here. How do you do the testing of her and get the level of her international peers?
