Most likely some guards got into it with each other and one shot another guard. But again I could be wrong because the court said they are peaceful and do not carry weapons.

Most likely you are speculating based on your bias. The AFP report takes us backwards - they say it was an unknown attacker.

Unfortunately they had to arm some of the guards to protect the main body of protestors from the likes of Ko Tee and even armed police used by the lying stooges of CAPO.

Is anyone that foolish to think that a red shirt would get that close to the stage with a weapon without being caught. No it's not bias, it's common sense.

Yet again you are making things up. No report says he was shot at close range, nor did any say he was close to the stage. The AFP report said 'near' which could be anything.

It is certainly not common sense to speculate.

    Also:

No report says he was wearing a red shirt

  2. One dead in shooting at Thai protest site

BANGKOK, April 15, 2014 (AFP) - One person was shot dead on Tuesday at the site of an anti-government rally in the Thai capital Bangkok, emergency services said, in the latest in a string of violent attacks.

The 40-year-old man was killed by an unknown attacker in the early hours of the morning near the rally stage in Lumpini Park, according to the city's Erawan emergency centre.

He was working as a security guard for the anti-government movement, according to rally spokesman Akanat Promphan.

"We don't know who was responsible," he added.

Police said they had no information about the incident and had not visited the scene of the shooting.

Access to the protest site is usually restricted by the rally guards, who have fraught relations with the police.

The area near where the attack happened has been thronged with revellers celebrating the traditional Thai New Year water festival this week.

Opposition demonstrators have staged more than five months of mass street protests seeking to force Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from office.

Grenade attacks and shootings linked to the unrest have left 25 people dead and hundreds wounded in recent months, including many protesters.

The violence has eased somewhat since the rallies were scaled back at the start of March, when demonstrators abandoned their occupation of major intersections in Bangkok and converged on Lumpini Park.

The protesters want Yingluck to step down and make way for an unelected interim government to oversee reforms aimed at curbing the political dominance of her billionaire family.

Thailand has seen years of political conflict and rival street protests by opponents and supporters of her brother, former premier Thaksin Shinawatra. He was ousted from office by a coup in 2006 and lives overseas to avoid jail for a corruption conviction.

It seems to me, nearly all of them were protestors - does anyone know the numbers?

  3. "....or whether his group's proposal was in support of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), which is pushing an agenda of reform prior to the next general election"

Wow, don't these people realize this guy is a "red flag walking" to an electoral majority who accuse him of having a major role in the 2006 coup caper, and of political interference the last 10 years that has severely curtailed development of Democracy.....No amount of Elitist aggrandizement changes that...It just pee's them off when they see it......Additionally, are there only so-called "Statesmen" on one side of the political divide?

Amazing how out-of-touch and insulated these people are, to propose such a thing....Obviously insulated within their own Elitist circles......

To even float any political notion related to governance that isn't electorally rooted, is a coup.......When will these people realize their un-Democratic musings just inflames the majority electorate more. ...Catering to their minority is a losing proposition.

Also, suggesting this is some sort of unknown grouping suggesting this thing, is just some more phony DP segmentation effort...But in reality, different groups-same faces.

They are probably among the crowd who can only demonize major swaths of the electorate as not being of their station, and therefore not given credit for any degree of Politicization. By denigrating them as being uni-dimensionally attached to Thaksin and or only 'moved' to political stuff for money, they diminish any hope of electoral success anytime soon.

That said, the quote "(PDRC), which is pushing an agenda of reform prior to the next general election"....really ought to be "reform themselves, before the next election" if they have any hope of making electoral progress.

But their Elitist arrogance prevents them from seeing beyond their nose in this regard.

Wow, you should write for Khaosod or another paper . . . love that political rhetoric, and in this case I (kind of) agree, Prem is NOT the best choice as he is NOT independent and doesn't have a great track history.

However, putting that aside for one moment, can we finally put one thing to bed, who is actually running this country currently, it's Thaksin from afar:

Pheu Thai sources said earlier that fugitive de-facto party leader Thaksin Shinawatra had instructed party legal advisers to fight to ensure that even if future rulings are made against caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra or the party's policies, Pheu Thai could remain in power with a deputy premier or another cabinet member carrying on the government's caretaker status.

The sources said Thaksin ordered that a general election had to be held as quickly as possible, with a member of the Shinawatra family as the candidate of Pheu Thai party. The sources visited Thaksin in Hong Kong last week, but only told reporters of Thaksin's orders yesterday.

Interesting. Can the source be named?

Otherwise I have to consider this just fiction

  4. Mr Somchai, please don't bother them now.

They are all resting, after the hard job they did for the past 3 years for this country.

Anyway, what elections are you referring too?

    First reforms and then elections.

    Do try to understand that.

WRONG, don't bother the Pheu Thai goons now, or the redshirt mercenaries, might be knocking on the door to send them to holy heaven, those EC bunch of pathetic cowards...

.... it's really sad, that unruly elite of Pheu Thai is taking laws into their own hands... this insanity must stop...

Democratically elected,... don't give me that crap.... 80% of Thailand has been bought AND blackmailed to vote for the ThaksinDEMOcracy, making it impossible for a fair turnout.... so that's why Thaksin could practically win every election, no matter how many times parliament is dissolved and reset, playing that easy-peazy "Election-Collection" cat and mouse game 4EVER....

Election my ***BEHIND*** .... N'ough said....

The continued bleating of vote buying as the reason for the PTP election wins is tiresome. Maybe there is vote buying. However, it is not restricted to one political party. How do you think Suthep managed to deliver the south to the Democrat party over the years? In any case, it takes 2 parties to participate. Despite all the allegations of vote buying, there has been zero evidence to show that it actually benefits anyone.Votes are cast in secret and no matter how much money is given, that doesn't mean the vote for the party is assured.

The PTP is not taking the law into its own hands. It is asking the EC to respect the legally mandated time line for an election. It is the EC that is going beyond its scope of authority. The EC should just come right out and say it wants a change in government and intends to sabotage elections in Thailand until such time as it can guarantee the election of a group who will restore the old guard's place in Thailand.

Me too. I get tired of all these vote buying accusations - I'm in a rural village and there was NO vote buying by the guys standing for the elections where I am (in the North). It also seems to me that some posters on TV forget that the constitution required an election before a certain number of days expired after a dissolution of the parliament - she had no choice and the ones who stopped the election going ahead was not the PTP but the supporters of the bankrupt, accused murderer, fascist Mr S T. The E C were derelect in their duties to make sure the legal, authorized elections could be carried out. Didn't some of you sympathizers of the great leader see the news of that woman having to climb over the high wire fence so her vote could be cast? What about the 20 million who did vote - you seem to be blind and deaf to their cries for, 'respect my vote.' - I can't vote as I'm not a Thai but I do sympathize with all those who DON'T WANT this rabid, megalomaniac great leader and his backers to be the rulers of this great land where I have had the pleasure of residing for just on 20 years. It baffles me how I can read the same articles as you, see the same news items as you, keep informed from the internet from various sites and come out 100% against your assumptions - eg 80% vote buying, Ms. Yingluck is stupid, and so on - actually I know for a fact from Chiang Mai University that she was dux of her class so don't smear her good academic record with your lies. Even the spokeswoman of the Democrats had the said Yingluck was fleeing the country because of all the suitcases etc at the airport - lies lies lies - they belonged to another person and this was widely published in all Thai newspapers, even the Nation, but there was no reprimand or apology - sorry Ms. Yingluck but I hope the smear ends with a libel case against the liar of woman that she is - spokesperson of a bunch of murderers and liars who want to get their snouts in the trough like they did last time - the great leader still has court cases to give account why he authorized land in Phuket meant for farmers to be signed over to his buddies. In closing, let me ask who are the ones who have stopped the farmers getting their money from the BAAC - every time they tried to pay the farmers the followers of the great leader stopped them through intimidation, withdrawing funds, threats of violence.

NO, you may call me a red but I'm not, I'm a concerned citizen who is worried about the suffering of mums and dads and grandparents in the weeks ahead. - let the Thai get on with a full election and let democracy live - forget the rhetoric about vote buying - if isn't an issue any more - respect the vote!!!

"...vote buying - if (should be it ?) isn't an issue any more "

how do you know it isn't an issue any more?

what about intimidating? what about red threats?

I heard there is not only vote buying, but also use of intimidation and violence. Not allowing candidates of other parties to campaign.

Not allowing artists who are sympathizing with other parties to perform

  6. Rest assured you are the oddest one I have read today too!!

How old are you for this to be your first time?

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I'm 26, been here a year. Been out with plenty of girls, none of them brought their aunt along, I definitely don't think it is normal even in Thailand. I guess the moral is don't go to starbucks for dates!

on one of my dates the person brought their friend along.

Their ended up,being 3 for breakfast.

    See you never ever know....

Ps today I am part of a happy threesome. There ya go. Never ever know.....

    Marcusd. Via tapatalk

    wow!

can you give me some coaching?

  7. Thinglish for an Aunt on their Mother's side is usually Sister Mother Me.

Not "my friend you" or "my wife you" ?

This is all way over my head.

I've never been able to work out who is what to whom in Thailand.

"Is that a real blood relationship, or are they just a friend from an older generation?"

    Pee/Nong, Lung/Baa, etc.

in my experience they are all cousins

  8. The ruling Pheu Thai and its redshirt supporters are always against the appointment of a new prime minister under Article 7 reasoning it was undemocratic and also vowed to oppose to the end.

Well I would say that you are less than a week from the end, so do what you can in the little amount of time you have left.

"...to bear the negative impact of political populism"

It is one thing to discuss the pro's and con's of Govt. programs, another to advance political theory while doing so.

Left unchallenged, such negating of political theory and underlying principles, could be viewed as gospel....Left unchallenged, the self-serving motives would be obscured....Puts into context, over-the-top denigration of such programs by the PAD-Dem's, and why you see them seeking out each and every possible program hitch, and magnifying them.

The Ammart is opposed to what the above quote calls "political populism"...Let's be sure we know what that means.....

Populism refers to "programs for ordinary people"...So in the context of this quote, the statement actually says that "Political programs for ordinary people is a bad thing"

And that is the mantra of BKK. centered political circles, who decry what they see as national financial wherewithal being wasted on ordinary folks not of their station.

Does that give you a clue as to their electoral futility? Does that give you an inkling about all the furor and noise they generate against Govt. programs designed to 'spread the wealth'.

It is why the Lumpini crowd wants to establish a Civilian Dictatorship of their own kind, to put an end to such programming which does not cater to them exclusively....

The only way they can do that is non-electorally.

Blame the ammart, blame the ammart, blame the ammart...

Time to get a new playbook.

Can anybody tell me who the ammart are?

    Names? Proof?

    Conspiration theory!

  10. This monk has an affinity for cash.

I wonder what Buddha would think of him?

Your just as bad as the newspaper, and if he knew who you really are, and not just a coward that hides behind a keyboard

He could Sue you as well for this comment

Please show me proof that he wanted this money for himself

Why he can not want the monies to help the priesthood

everyday people donate money to Monks, and this money goes to the temples and priesthood

so are they all have an affinity to Cash

On this subject you will get no argument from me, but I keep my thoughts to my self

You have insulted every Thai who loves the Monkhood with your posting

I hope you will now be a real man and apoligise to Thais for you comment made before thinking them through

This is the monk who recently extorted B120,000 from a hotel isn't it?

    https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/436666592387018752

    and what does this mean?

does this mean he used the money for himself?

may be he donated for a good purpose?

the intention of your remark is evil, even if the text might be correct

  11. I don't know exactly what Suthep meant by his apparently ill-considered remarks and I don't suppose many other people do either. But the caretaker government's response seems to be an overreaction. Article 113 of the Penal Code that they are asking their DSI poodles to investigate only deals with violence or threats of violence used to overthrow the government or constitution. Suthep didn't actually mention anything about violence in his ramblings. That has so far been the sole prerogative of government ministers and their red shirts who are threatening to form an armed volunteer force.

The government failed to react to separatist threats by their paid red shirt lackeys and announcements by government ministers of the formation of an armed terrorist group. Now they are up in arms about some incomprehensible nonsense spouted by Suthep on the stage. Yingluck is even trying to involve the Army Chief, while her moronic cousin, 'Dr' Suraphong, is trying to get the US ambassadress to take her break from her adoring devotion to Thai people and culture to dial in an air strike on the monitor lizards of Lumpini Park. Double standards?

It's very clear what Suthep meant by his well thought out remarks.

The courts throw out Yingluck and he takes over to do whatever he pleases, whenever he pleases to whomever he pleases.

Its exactly what unelected tyrants do, so no real surprises here. The only ones that are shocked are the idiots who bought into Sutheps lies about fighting corruption and "restoring" democracy.

It seems the supposedly dimwitted red shirts supporters are far more clever than the Suthep loving farangs when it comes to picking lying cheating dictators in the making.

I understand his remarks in a different way:

When the courts rightfully decide that Yingluck has to be removed from office

and Yingluck and the PTP ignore the law and just stay in office - which can be expected

In this case the law has to be enfortced

which is the job of police

If they do not do that - which is what can be expected

the people have to do that - and he will help.

  12. Suthep have millions of supporters who want him to be PM. Isn't that mandate enough to rule the country? Many people will come out to donate and protect him if Yingluck try to arrest him. Also, Thai court have no right what so ever to summon him at all, because he protest peacefully and without weapon.

It would be mandate enough if his millions of supporters exceeded the multi millions of supporters Thaksin has.

As it is they don't - so no mandate for the turkey.

The multi-millions claims by Thaksin are BOUGHT vote.

If the election is free and fair, Suthep will win hands down.

The multi-millions claims by Thaksin are BOUGHT vote.

Aren't they also achieved by pressure and intimidation?

  13. UNBELIEVABLE that "Justice" officials would be seen to meet with the coup leader - photo's too!!! unbiased or what?

Amazing Thailand - Never Ceases to AMAZE

Not amazing at all. The guys are just sick and tired of this corrupt Thaksin regime. They have witnessed themselves the last decade that the Shins brake every law possible just to enrich themselves. When they get caught they send their violent reds to threaten the judges.

The faster the Shins are out the better. thumbsup.gif

I think many people on TVF agree with your last part, but what they really mean is the faster the Shins are out, the faster we can get are snouts back in the trough.

TVF members getting their snout back in the trough?

    I doubt there are many

  14. Hope they provide more rubbish bins at the next rally, that is a disgrace !!!

Just goes to show how much they really care about their country...

... and more to the point, the thread is about allegations against the PDRC of trying to overthrow the government; what has the mess that the UDD left behind got to do with the thread?

A picture says more than 1000 words

  15. Instead of this "my dad is bigger than your dad" nonsense, perhaps they could hold a general election, no polling stations blocked, all parties involved and then see who gets the most votes.

    you left out...

    no 500 baht incentives

    no intimidation

no blocking / threats to/of other parties from campaigning in all villages

anyone else want to add to this laundry list?

Sure, the Dems are guilty of all the above, but I don't think PTP are totally innocent either.

please point me to where the dems have blocked / threatened anyone from campaigning in certain villages/ towns/ districts?

I would suggest you worry about the current situation though, looks like another big ban from politics is coming to team red for obvious well documented reasons...or shall we start another list?

    Rice, transfers, constitution, infrastructure voting....

Sure, the Dems are guilty of all the above, but I don't think PTP are totally innocent either.

    this is irony tongue.png

  16. And who is to determine if they are decent enough to vote ?

yes that's the big problem - unsolved unfortunately and part of the disadvantage

It is neither my job nor my intention to tell who is to determine that.

    Plato wrote something about that.

We have to be clear that all the so called democracies in the world are far from being ideal.

Taking care for an effective independent educational system which includes ethics and is free available for everyone could be a step closer to ideal democracy.

  17. Amsterdam is brilliant. He describes Thai democrats struggling to overcome the oppression of rich fat cats who bend the law for their own interest. Your only response is "Thaksin". If Thaksin and all his kin were gone would it then be okay with you if the red shirts elected someone else (they are the majority, after all)? I doubt it. Their candidate would then be "follower of Thaksin" or "successor of Thaksin". No matter what, you will never be happy with majority rule, because it will always return someone who doesn't agree with your selfish desire to exploit the poor.

The problem with democracy is, that it works as it should only, when the majority is decent and well educated,

if this is not the case we will always have a ruling of the lower educated or indecent masses

Hilarious. But at least you are explicit in your rejection of democracy. A true tory.

Seeing the BIG disadvantage and the abuse of democracy does not mean to reject it -

but if I knew a better form of government I would for sure reject democracy.

Until then power to the people - but first make sure they are decent and know what they are doing.
