  1. Let me explain. There's nothing in the article to say that she was a prostitute (although there's a very high chance that she was). If a very respectable and attractive lady walked down Soi Nana at that time of the night, she would be likely to attract unwanted attention, even if she never was and never will be a prostitute.
  2. Not saying that she deserved it, but she's likely to attract some unwanted attention.
  3. Many years ago a mutual friend, an American guy, who we knew to be a heroin addict, asked an Irish friend if he could be the recipient of some kitchen-ware that was being sent by post to Bangkok, our Irish friend politely declined.
  4. Most likely that he had a heart attack/heart failure, or possibly a stroke. (My brother in law dropped dead at 50 of a heart attack).
  5. A few times in recent years I got an e-visa for Cambodia. The main reason being that it saves the hassle of doing a visa application at Phnom Penh Airport. It's a satisfactory system, if a bit more expensive than applying in person. (I was in Thailand when I completed the applications).
  6. The ‘if the foreigner hadn’t been there..... ‘ thing was definitely said to apply in Saudi Arabia, where I worked for 3 years. Saudis are awful drivers, but some colleagues said that Egyptians are the worst!
  7. In my home county in the UK, recently, they caught more people drug-driving than drink-driving. (The road side test can test for cannabis or cocaine). The penalty's the same, a minimum 12 month driving ban. The one difference being, in the UK, as in most Western countries, it's best not to offer a bribe to the cops to try to get off with it. (It's well known that Thailand has a weak 'rule of law').
  8. It's been 35 Baht since '98. It shows how these people are exploited, and kept down money-wise. As I mentioned before, and only IMHO, it should have been 50-60 Baht for a long time now. I always used to tip well because of this.
  9. That's prbably about what it should cost. Or what costs 50 Baht now should really cost 100-200 Baht.
  10. 20 Satang/km rise??! I remember in '98 flagfall was 35. These numbers show how these people are exploited.
  11. In my 20 years in BKK I seldom had a problem getting the drivers to use the meter. One tip is to never try to use a taxi that's parked-up, they'll virtually always quote you a crazy price.
  12. 25 years ago the flag-fall was 35 Baht. It should now be 50-60 Baht. Ever wondered why the drivers are so reluctant to use the meter?????
  13. They should stay on the roads, like they do in Saigon (aint crossing the road there an experience!?????).
  14. "..."no see" attitude unless you pay them." Maybe something to do with very low pay for the police, I believe they start on around 8,000 Baht pm. (They also have to pay for their own firearm (probably at massively inflated prices)).
  15. Foreigners can buy houses in Malaysia, but I think they have to be valued at around $100,000+
  16. Why would they grapple with it when most of their ruling classes are ethnic Chinese?!????
  17. The words of Gus in Breaking Bad "Never trust a drug addict".
  18. I work in a warehouse that stocks lorry parts and regularly sign for packages/boxes that are delivered. They're always signed for before they are opened. I'm certain that they only contain what they should, but in another place it would be easy to unwittingly sign for a package that contains illicit drugs.
  19. They swapped their uniforms for suits.
  20. Was it around 15 years ago that they were gonna turn Koh Chang into an upmarket destination?
  21. I think it was 2006 that they introduced the hours they have now, the interior minister was Khun Purachai. Up until then there was all night drinking, as there still is in Cambodia
  22. We have the same kinds of people in the UK helping illegals, except they're called human rights lawyers over here.
  23. Yes, I know that nobody on here does, but I've heard that claim in the past.
  24. True, in more modern times. However, Ayuthaya (then the capital) was 'sacked' by the Burmese (around 1759) way back when. This disproves the claim that Thailand was never invaded.
  25. I know it's not cannabis related, but does anyone know what happened to the 3 French ladies arrested for heroin in Pai in 2016?
