  1. I hope the policeman made sure he got a Rabies shot!????
  2. I think a 'business' visa is quite easy to get, I had a few.
  3. 31 year old people don't tend to be wrinkled, so no.
  4. In my home county in recent years more people have been losing their driving licences for drug-drivng than drunk-driving. An old friend who still lives in BKK was ok drinking and getting drunk, so long as it wasn't WHISKY he was drinking, when he did he would turn into an incredibly obnoxious person. When I worked in Oz an Ozzie lady said that dark rum has a reputation for doing the same thing in Australia. (Commonly Bundy & Coke).
  5. It can sometimes be very hard to tell how old Thai ladies actually are. Many years ago I knew a petite and pretty Thai lady who was 31 (on her ID card). On sight she could have probably passed for 13 or 14.
  6. No. I worked for Velseis seismic (2006), and our client was Interoil. Another client there was Oilsearch. Working in the Purari River area.
  7. We never had any checks when I was in PNG. Did manage some local rum one night. It was a dry crew, mainly because with the natives there was a risk that they could start hacking lumps out of each other with bush-knives if they got pished!
  8. In Australia it was the saliva/drug test at the end of your hitch, but more worryingly an (alcohol) breathalyser every morning. You had to blow zero numbers. If you blew any numbers (even 0.01) on 3 occasions you were supposed to be fired.
  9. Some men are always like that when they drink, some even before they become visibly drunk. Probably part of why many women don't like their men drinking. "Instant a-hole - just add alcohol"
  10. Ceilbacy!? I was celibate for many of my later years in Thailand. Couldn't be bothered in the end. (When I first lived there I was at it all the time!).
  11. Depends what you call a big spender. My old, late, (and very rich) Swedish friend would spend 1500 on a lump of cheese, and think nothing of it! He was a big spender (and a generous guy too). I used to spend 50,000 to 60,000 on a basic, single lifestyle (20k rent). To my way of thinking, your standard of living on 20k Baht a month in Thailand would be like being on the dole in the UK (I did that in my younger years).
  12. Yeah right!???? I lived there for 20 years, and you wouldn't have much of an existence on 20k/month! (That's around 650 Baht a day, for everything!)
  13. I've spent a bit of time in Malaysia (often on visa-runs from Thailand). It is my second choice of countries to live in SE Asia. If you disregard the 'nightlife' and food (which are not so important for me), it has many similarities with Thailand.. (I've been in KL, Penang and Sarawak).
  14. I lived in BKK for 20 years and loved it like my home, it will always be a special place for me. However, horrendous traffic, sometimes overly hot, crowds of people mean that I reckon there are probably lots of better cities to live in, if you consider every aspect of living.
  15. This guy played in the days before players earned mega-bucks.
  16. Even during my first visits to Pattaya in the 1980's I became aware that the pavement (sidewalk) along the beach side was a crime hotspot, and it still is. Lots of dark recesses and palm trees for crims to hide behind Best avoided after dark.!
  17. Out of interest I was just checking out skyscanner to see the price of flights London - Bangkok rtn. Thai are wanting £1300+ (about double the pre-COVID price). That might be a clue as to why tourism numbers aren't recovering as they had hoped. (And that's in monkey-class, not business).????
  18. Living in the UK, got my new passport in 1 week, quite impressive. Went to a photo booth and the digital photo becomes available to the passport dept. Did the applicatione online, just had to send off the old passport,
  19. Sometimes (like, always) you need to not get involved in other people's problems (even more so when you're 70!).
  20. A few months ago I saw a report about large numbers of Russians showing up in Finland, I suspected they were there to avoid the draft!
  21. Religion does tend to be toxic???? (In lots of ways, it's 'divisive').
