I worked with very many Indians overseas for many years, always very laid-back & friendly people, never had a problem with any of them.

I think advice from the US police is the last thing any police force needs.
Depends what kind of country it is. American-style policing would probably work well in Latin America, Honduras, Brazil etc, but probably not in many European countries.

Maybe I just struck-lucky with my quick in & out? (About 7 years ago).

As a retired police officer, with 23 years in the job in a fairly violent city in the US, I am often floored by the lackadaisical tactical approaches these Thai officers take with clearly unhinged individuals. Yeah, this guy was a bloated, drunk p.o.s, but to just laugh and hold him at bay with your clipboard as he rants a mere foot away from you? That cavalier attitude only works…until it doesn’t, and your colleagues are visiting your widow’s house with hats in hand. It serves no one.
It might well be handled in a similar way in the UK, trying not to 'escalate'. Also, it looks like/seems obvious that he's not carrying any knives or firearms etc.
I do actually understand why policing in the US has to be as it is though. -

“Convenient, fast, safe, impressive.” said no one, ever, about Thailand's bureau of immigration... but it's good to have goals.
I once did a visa extension in about 15 minutes at Jomtien, brilliant. Chaeng Wattana in BKK however, you could be there for up to 2 hours some days.

He's not "a British man" - he's a Gammon!
We only have 'Gammon's' in Britain!? Not sure if that term is in use abroad?!

The UK has around 10 million foreign-born people living there. Does that mean that it has also been 'colonised'?
I doubt that Thailand has anything like that number of falang (white people) living there? If there are many foreigners living in Thailand I suspect that most of them would be from neighbouring countries? -

No he looks the type that is an a#####e without a drink. He is just another loser, that Thailand seems to attract. You can meet his kind in any bar in Bang Saray/Pattaya any day.As both you, and an old Ozzie friend mentioned, Pattaya does tend to attract certain types, but also some good people.

Classic ... sadly he'll only get a small fine, instead of jail & deportation.
Hopefully the wife won't bail him out, and his bags will be curbside when he does get out. Almost feel sorry for her. Imagine living with someone like that ... Holy Buddha. Obviously has no respect for himself, let along anyone else.
He's probably one of those guy who turns into the world's biggest a-----e when he drinks.

He has denied being a loan shark and said the book was his friends, he looks more like a heavy, who threatens and beats people to get money back. Still a life time ban is needed, he came here at only 31yr old.
What's the betting that loan-sharking was his 'business' back home?

It was on the news in Australia last night that over 40% of travellers are now forgoing travel insurance due to the cost. I was amazed at how much more expensive it is now when I went to Thailand in June, where the minimum comprehensive policy for a month was about $A350 while I paid $450 for one which covered me for motorbike riding and covid, both ill ness and out of pocket costs. That's a lot of money on top of airfares. It's understandable why people task the risk. It's also understandable why they shouldn't.
I lived for 20 years in Thailand, and besides a year or 2 of company-related insurance, I never had health insurance. It was the luck of the draw that I never got seriously ill. I do have an pre-existing condition, which would make it more expensive.
I believe that once we reach 70 years old premiums can become prohibitively expensive.- 2

I am confused. Is this trans a woman or a man, I mean biologically?
You don't need to be chatting anyone up. The thing with a gold necklace is that it's visible from quite a distance, and someone walking towards you just needs to snatch it from your neck, and run, in the bilnk of an eye, it would be gone before you realise what's happened!

This will please an old friend from Vancouver (he worked on the docks there). `In his younger years he was a bit 'wild', and he suspected that the police in the US might want him for a 'misdemeanour' there a long time ago. That meant that flying through Seattle wasn't on for him. He had often said that he wished that they had direct flights to Thailand.

Did you read about that top-cop some years ago whose home was found to contain 10's or 100's of millions of Baht, and an Aladdin's-cave of other goodies?

Dangerous guy....lots of us here ride, enjoy and love bikes. But the HA's are a different breed.
I got stuck in a snow storm on my HD in North Platte, Nebraska a few years back...I unknowingly arrived into the Friend's of the Bandidos club house/motel. They took me under their wing as I did a 600 mile ride that day and they liked that. I have to say I had a ball with these guys but I sure wouldn't cross them
The bulk on this guy, he must spend his day pumping iron.
Probably with some added 'chemical-assistance'?!

In my 20 years there, I got the impression that loads of expats drink & drive in Thailand, and not just Brits. This guy was just unlucky to get caught.

It pays to turn the headlights off and place your Singha T-shirt over the dashboard, thus eliminating interior reflective light and improving external vision through the tint. It also saves fuel and makes your battery last longer, so it's also good for the environment.
Additionally, hang your amulets on the rear view mirror?! Will make you much less likely to have an accident!

This sounds exactly like what happened to an old friend in Khon Kaen about 8 years ago. Ran out of money, not getting on with his Thai wife, hanged himself. The same kind of circumstances.

Cigrettes/tobacco are a big tax/revenue earner for the Thai government. Just thinking about why they would ban something that means that people smoke less?

Who cares re your KLM experience.
I fly almost monthly and many airlines require issue of boarding pass.
The airline want to check eligibility to fly to destination.
Hence want to view visa.
My most recent experience Bangkok to Saigon Oct 25 needed to obtain boarding pass.
Online check in not available as airline need to check visa.
Same for next flight Saigon to Melbourne...
Could not enter passport control until 3 hours prior to flight.
Many years ago I arrived by taxi at Saigon (aka HCM City) Airport 4 hours pre-departure hoping to check in early and avoid crowds (and to have a look around duty-free and have a few beers), to be informed that the check-in didn't open until 3 hours pre-flight... I did then get caught in the ensuing melee at check-in etc

The fine for less than 24 hours overstay is only waived when flying out. When using a land border, you will always be fined.
For some nationalities that also applies to whether or not you get 15 or 30 days when entering Thailand across a land border. At one time I think it was only people on G7 country passports who got 30 days?
