  1. I tread the headline and the article several times before I got it! It was not a man with a hand truck who got killed, it was a man who got killed by means of a hand truck. Isn't English wonderfully unambiguous!
  2. Not linked. I know it should be, but fear the potential (55) consequences of attempting to do it myself. No way is any local Chan getting anywhere near it!
  3. Ok, you gurus out there, explain this one! I have an outside utility area, fully covered and wired by myself, with a substantial grounding rod in damp ground and its own distribution box. Running off it is a pump, a water heater, two fridges, a washing machine, a RO filter, fans and lighting. All are grounded where appropriate or possible, including the roof structure. Yesterday, going to draw water, I touched the stainless steel sink, and I got a shock - more than a tingle and less than a belt. Using a multimeter, I measured the voltage between myself and the sink, at 200volts! I then checked against everything else in the area - same result. Even the brass non-return valve in the blue plastic water supply line showed 200v. Inside the main house, the kitchen sink showed 150v, as did everything electrical in the kitchen with exposed Metalwork - but no shock from any of these. My first thought was an electrical fault in one of the appliances, so disconnected them all - no difference. Switched off the power - no difference. It was getting too late to do anything useful, so I deferred the job until this morning. Today I got my meter and tools, ready to open up the distribution boxes and check everything. Imagine my surprise that the fault is gone....... zero volts anywhere. No detectable earth leakage whatsoever. Does anyone have any idea how this could happen?
  4. Would you put your wife and/or kids through a car wash?
  5. Am I alone in noticing that the general standard of driving has taken a steep plunge recently. It's worse than dodgems!
  6. Not everyone goes to Bumrungrad. Have you seen the operating theatre in a public hospital in Laos? I have, the windows were open on to the street!
  7. Medical staff wear surgical masks to protect the patient from the wearer, not the other way round. The victim on the table with his insides hanging out is unlikely to spread airborne vectors. The gang of robed medical staff breathing all over him, is.
  8. It's the 1% of mineral salts in solution that cause the problems - corrosion and in the case of batteries, contamination.
  9. Toyota premixed coolant is available in gallon containers from Toyota dealers, AutoBoy, some filling station forecourts, and on Lazada. https://s.lazada.co.th/s.4WAi0 Don't use the fluorescent green stuff from the supermarkets! and don't use mineral water. RO water is ok for occasional topping up only, distilled (battery) water is better.
  10. They're quite good at executions too..... especially extra-legal ones.
  11. But did you manage the millionaire bit? And if so, what currency?
  12. What's an acocunt? Is it different from the normal kind? (I'm Sorry!)
  13. Not to the extent that it is here. "Boss" for example?
  14. It's about one lawyer saying the other was going to use the tape to blackmail. If not true, Whether true or not, in Thailand he has every right to sue for defamation, as this is a fairly serious allegation, especially for a lawyer. If it was me being Thai and accused and/or relatively (sufficiently?) wealthy, whether or not I was innocent, I would absolutely be suing for defamation. As I said before: "who pays, wins" Apologies for the convoluted editing!
  15. My understanding ism the law here IS different. A statement is defamatory if it causes the plaintiff a loss of face. Whether or not the statement is true is totally irrelevant. As in all cases here, who pays, wins.
  16. My personal observation is, the Thai do not really like coffee. They like the idea of coffee, and the culture (?) of coffee drinking, the kudos of buying bad coffee from a mega-expensive franchise, or sitting in a "designer" coffee shop. No Thai I have ever asked if they would like a cup of coffee, has ever accepted. They would rather drink water. The disgusting looking concoction they go for, with ice, condensed milk and brown liquid which might have essence of the real thing somewhere in its history, is NOT coffee! And, it takes so long to make the real coffees drinkers could die waiting for it! I won't even mention Birdy.
  17. I admit to finding it hard to believe.......that's why I asked for a reference! Everything Mr Google comes up with, tells me they don't like electricity. There are even electric mats to repel them.
