  1. "Hang on a sec. Am I right in thinking you have a small ADSL router that

has the phone line in and a single Ethernet line out which uoi then plug

    into the 4 way hub?"

Exactly ! - this due to us coupling another pc (into the 4 way hub) now and then.

A 3 box solution wouldn't be so bad, if that's what it takes.

I'll have to try to get the wife to ask the computer shop about the setup w00t.gif - maybe they'll also suggest an ADSL WiFi router, too.

We're off to town in an hour or so and I'll have to wait and see what (if anything) I end up with. I'm taking along a sketch of our current setup - maybe that will make things easier, eh.

I'll get back to you later today when/if I know anything..... thumbsup.gif

Cheers - and thanks for the help, much appreciated.

There is no need just a 4 port ADSL WiFi router will do the job in 1 box. No pain in the a$$ config either!

  2. Many thanks for your positive reply - sounds easy enough (when you know how biggrin.png ).

OK - a standard ethernet WiFi Router - I have to go into town tomorrow, so I'll look around.

I just have to plug the WiFi Router into the hub (Tp-Link), move my desktop pc ethernet cable into the WiFi Router - and then install the CD and configure the Wifi Router as per your instructions. Is that all correct?

That means I can use the internet (via ethernet cable) on my desktop pc - and I can use my WiFi tablet with the WiFi Router - all at the same time, right? Yeah, I know - I'm pretty dumb about these things.......giggle.gif

    Cheers - and thanks thumbsup.gif

Anything is easy when you know and when you dont there is always TV right?

Make sure the WiFi router is not one of the ADSL types they are most common.....

Hang on a sec. Am I right in thinking you have a small ADSL router that has the phone line in and a single Ethernet line out which uoi then plug into the 4 way hub? Getting a Ethernet WiFi router and adding it means you have a 3 box solution so 3 times the chance for problem.

If I have assumed rightly then you could just buy a ADSL WiFi router and throw away the old ADSL AND the Ethernet hub and replace it with 1 box that converts ADSL to Ethernet, gives you 4 Ethernet ports AND WiFi connectivity all in a single box. Only 1 box to configure that way.....

  3. Pathetic.

I agree. Of everything that is available on the internet surely Facebook must be the most pathetic. Closely followed by Twitter etc.

"Social networking" is just idiots talking nonsense to cretins.

  4. I cant believe the hostility towards this request!

The guy runs a business not a free internet cafe. Post the router details its easiest to block there but remember if they are tech savvy they will get around it with a proxy.....

Then all you need to do is block the proxies too.

That's a lot of CGI proxy's to add!

  7. I have been in IT for some 25 years working for all the major investment banks and I have never had a recover done that the user is satisfied with. Not saying it cant be done but the prices are (were) astronomical with no guarantee.

We all learn the hard way about backing up our data myself included.

  8. OP, if your problem is speed from non-Thai peers a far easier solution would be to simply rent a server in a decent European datacenter (i.e. one that a lot of other peers will be using like OVH or Leaseweb) and FTP your files back.

I'm in Thailand and my (properly configured) FTP client almost always maxes out my connection from my OVH server in France.

    Interesting.

I have been given access to a dedicated managed server in the US that I can do what I like with. I (wrongly?) assumed I would run the tracker on this then seed it from Thai domestic clients. As I understand FTP I would have to host all the media on the server which could lead to copyright issues......

  9. Yes mate its easy.

Go buy a WiFi router NOT an ADSL one just a standard Ethernet one. Take out the cable from desktop to current hub and plug the wireless router in. Either run the CD to configure or if you are happy open up the WEB GIU and do it yourself. Personally I would assign a different IP range for the wifi router say 192.168.2.1 and let the WiFi router assign and manage all IP address connecting to it.

Depending on the router and firmware you could configure the new WiFi as a 'Bridge Mode' which means it acts as a fairly dumb WiFi access point.

  10. Doing the DNSBench shows for me 208.67.220.222 is at the top.......

Re started and well ThaiVisa opened 1st time with NO waiting

Many thanks......... never to old, just have to remember I can do this any-time to get the best

    Happy to help.

I have worked in IT at all levels but I only found DNSBench a couple of months ago!

    Enjoy.

  11. OpenDNS is another alternative.

Its an option but I have found DNSBench when allowed to fully scan and run seems to offer quicker DNS resolution.

Here are the OpenDNS servers you can plug in and try....

208.67.222.222 in the Preferred DNS server

and 208.67.220.220 and Alternate DNS server

    fields.

  12. Thanks...

but not to clear what to do....... the last image I have set as per Admin 'George' advise

    202-170-126-90

    8-8-8-8

If I run the Wizard I get a warning......

Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource [DNS SERVER] is not responding

been the same for at least 2 years.

Change to 'Obtain DNS Server address automatically' ??

Edit: Re- [got someone to look and change settings a month or so ago, made no difference] they made changes in the Router only configuration

NP we can walk you through this.

The servers George suggested are *normally* adequate and a lot better than the ones your ISP would have you using.

Do a Google for a FREEWARE app called DNSBench.exe

Run the app its test a shed load of DNS servers and gives you the results back what are best to use. I suggest running it with your current (George) setting then try again using the ISP defaults to see the difference.

It will take at least 1 hour to run so post back with the results.

  13. Have you tried another browser like Firefox?

Sounds like a DNS problem to me open a command box and type 'ipconfig /all' (without quotes). That will give you a list of all adapters and IP settings can you post the info for your current adapter?

Can you check you dint have forced DNS servers in your IP4 settings.

CP- Network -change adpt. Open the current connection then hit properties the slide down till you see IP4 and open that....

  14. Where is the OP ?

Last PM said he was off to work????

Why does he PM you all the time and doesn't bother to react to the others on this forum?

Maybe you could ask him that in an PM, seems you have been elected as his spokesman

    Something fishy going on here.

Para do yoy live in Pattaya too by any chance?

I'm not allowed to post PM's but Monty the Mod has been privy to some drop him a line and ask him....
