  1. I have 2 old laptops. In the US its will be in the trash already.....but here I found a young Thai guy, a university student, amazing good in computer repairs. He was living in Chiang Rai and now is working in BK. I do not know your location.

He was helping me many times with my laptops...sometimes resolving in minutes configuration problems....and many times for free, just because it is very easy for him to do it. He is a genius!

If you speak Thai.....will worth a call to him,. 082-7978543. I will recommend this guy to anybody with computer troubles.

Anyway....if not him...you may get lucky and find your own computer savvy guy here....Chances are better than in the US.

  2. Retired and married?...with a foreigner?

    Why Thailand??????

Are you planning in dump your wife and get a young lover?

Better for you and your wife to come here and rent a place first before any long term commitment here, or in your country..

Looking for an active cultural expat life in...... Thailand???.

If you are from America....married....look in Chapala, Guadalajara, Mexico.....

If you are from the UK......married....look for Ubud, Bali, Indonesia...

Hua Hin????....Pattaya??? Phuket??? it is not Thailand....are transplanted polluted beaches of South California...plus a very hot weather!

If you like the mountains, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai may be an exception.....but again...hoping that you are in a happy marriage.

    Thailand "landscape" is tooooo beautiful!

  3. Contact online a company in Argentina and ask to send you a big cut of "vacio" to Chiang Mai. Even paying shipping and import taxed will be cheaper..and you will got the best beef in the world!

  4. Finally, after 6 calls to the card company, and after 5 days, my card is working at the local ATM. This time, I was asked many questions about my stay in Asia by a "special services" dept. Never happened before......The older card was canceled only one time in 2011 when I used in Bali, but was re-installed hours after a short call. I only use the ATM card one time a month to transfer my retirement money to my Bangkok Bank check account.

It is not cheap, and now AEON is charging for foreign cards withdraws, but I do not know a cheaper or more convenient option.

Anyway..Thank you friends for your advice.

  5. If it is not working, and they told you it should not be working, i would think it is probably true.

They said that should be work....with that NEW necessary "special permission"....Still not working..and probably I will have to get a new card or change arrangements after more calls trying to find what is really happening...Not only in Thailand you get confusing answers for a simple question.

I just want to know if another US retired citizen had or have problems in using that ATM card here recently....

  6. There are very many world's spots like Pattaya around the world where tourist have the risk to be assaulted, even murdered for little money....even for nice shoes...I am Brazilian....

Every hotel in Copacabana, Brazil, and on every tour agency, shows notices about the danger, and about ways to avoid problems. A tourist wearing golden jewelry, heavy watches, camera bags, etc, etc, is a target..and sometimes with tragic consequences. In Brazil, fingers and ears cuts to get the jewelry, etc. The best posted advise...NEVER walk the beach or park at night, NEVER to resit or pursue the robber... they NEVER are alone, and they ALWAYS have a knife...if not a gun. A BIG guy cannot defeat 5 teenagers with knives...only in the movies.....

Somebody looking to go to the Football World Cup in June? Take note....

  7. I was using for the last 3 years the DIRECT EXPRESS ATM CARD the US Social Security provide, without any problems, in Thailand and border countries...Now, after expiring, I got the new card and it is not working in ANY ATM here.....Anybody with the same problem? I called the office in the US and, after many calls and misinformation, they said that now needs special authorization to use outside the US.....It is that true?

  8. "Caucasian?...Argentinean - Brazilian - American In that order and with the 3 Passports, father French and mother Italian, grandfathers Russian - Polish and grandmothers Turkish - Hungarian.

My first wife, Brazilian, half black African and half Spaniel-Portuguese, one child. My second wife American, half Italian and half Irish, one child.

Sorry...do not time enough in this country to become a Thai....but...if I have a baby with my Thai wife, its will have a big trouble to tell about its self and its family members ancestors.

It is a "Global" citizenship?..I will like to apply...

  9. I seriously doubt it, China is teetering already...tho' there may be some high net worth individuals who will buy high end RE here to get money out of China and into assets.

The RE bubble here is ready to burst, prices to rent numbers are already stupid.

Can you explain that ratio to someone who knows little about RE language. Whats the tipping points for that ratio. (No Bubble/Bubble/Burst Bubble)

The Value/Rent ratio is the % obtained dividing the rental price by the value price. The best ratio for people looking in investing in rental properties is 1% to 2%, That means...If the Property values is 2000000THB the best rental value for that property will be 1% = 20000THB.... Something not easy to achieve in most Thailand areas. Phuket, Pattaya and BK may be exceptions. Because the US properties values went down after 2008, but rental values went up, Chinese people are buying everything they can in the US now. That action is improving the values there.

May happen here, but now rents values still very low. Example... 2 million property in Chiang Rai may rent for about 8000THB or less.

  10. I will love to drive a golf cart or a ATV here, but I live in a busy city....if not. Long ago I met a retired Australian living in Rayon Beach that uses a golf cart to drive around, even inside town. Because everybody, specially the police guys in town known him, he do not have any trouble doing that. I got a ride with him, riding slow, very safely, and having fun with people's comments.....

  11. I think you need to eliminate country to get an honest answer...what does a man want when they marry a woman, Thai, Chinese, Antartican etc? If you could distill the answer and put it onto a book, it would be a best seller.

on the darker side I think there is the need for perceived control by the man, ( maybe it is an evolutionary reproductive advantage to be this way) which a Thai woman, to the unwary and uninitiated, provides, though it doesn't necessarily always follow that this is true. I think the more uninhibited/ tease/ sometimes coquettish combination style of the sexual exploits of Thai woman

( compared to western counterparts )is a lure too. There is an an apparent femininity exuded by Thai women that western women rarely exhibit openly for fear of letting down their feminist mothers/sisters, especially when it comes to choosing a mate. I think men find Thai women attractive because the provide what men desire without making them feel guilty for such attractiveness, make them feel manly, make them think they are useful ( true or otherwise) give them a sense of worth (which is not my experience with western women), make them feel sexy and sexual, which similarly I have rarely experienced in the west.

There is a iron hand in an ermine glove that makes Thai women irresistible. thai women don't normally nag, or at least they disguise it with charm and wit. Western woman complain Thai women are so obvious in their approach, but subtlety doesn't work on the average man, not the ones I know well anyhow. So I expect my needs to be fulfilled, but I also fell the need to reciprocate for it to work properly. With a Thai Woman I can feel like a King, a provider, a stud, a bastion of support at the same time as allowing myself to be vulnerable and sensitive and not so much in control. Sometimes it's good to hand over the reigns to your Queen, someone who you trust, who will protect your integrity and your emotions unconditionally.

When you find a Woman like her, Thai or otherwise, like I was lucky enough to do, marry her and never look back

WOW!!! Well put! If I had so good English skills than you, I will write EXACTLY the same...Foreigners treating its Thai wives like slaves, were trying to do or did it with its foreigners wives and girlfriends before. They just got better chances to get away with that here. Blame on them!

  12. In any moment the Military will show up and tell Mrs Yinluck...Reform or Coup!..and the PM knows that means......My guess?

She will resign to have more time to set her affairs in "order", before running to meet her brother...Nothing will change..the poor will lose in one way or another... like always..but at least will be order again in Thailand...and a new hope for Change...not including Suthep.

  13. Tips for newbie scooter drivers here: Watch traffic at all times (also from behind by using mirrors), keep both hands on brakes (or foot and hand), don`t just your blink when you turn right but also wave your hand, beware dogs, -children and -backing trucks on the side of the road, keeps your eyes peeled for fast approaching motorbikes, -trucks, -cars and water trucks, watch out for the curves as there might be overtaking vehicle on your lane, don`t drive too fast (over 60) or too slow (depending on situation) as this will multiple increase the chance of getting hit by something and during night time, use a moto taxi if you plan to drink...

R.I.P for an other hapless soul lost on the streets of Samui

    p.s. I know there`s more tips...

You missed the best tip....DO NOT DRIVE IN THAILAND....PERIOD!
