Numbers of tourists doesn't seem to add up. Jan to Aug is 8 months, say 7 months 'cos it's not clear if it' s the beginning or end of August. 7 months and 10m tourists. So they have 5 months left to get the remaining 20+ million. Hmmm. Assuming the claim of 30+ million is true that is.
Works out to 130,719 people entering each and every one of the remaining 153 days. Phew!

I live in Aus on the O/A pension. You can live comfortably on it, as long as you don't own a car, live close to trains, and most importantly, do own your own dwelling. It also helps financially to live in country areas. There's more to it of course - lifestyle choices - fresh food, limited alcohol, exercise etc.Have you seen rent prices in Australia
In summary though, it is possible.

9 days, right on. A friend has a son, he went to the monkery after a massive party which cost absolutely squillions of baht - music, twerks, food, grog for 1000 people (1000, not a misprint) for . . . 9 sleeps.Unspescified period- about 9 days usually, pathetic charade
I larfed like a drain, not appreciated. .

The two times I've been to Buriram in recent years the track has been in use - motorcycle racing. Good bikes too, something like superbike racing. And I just 'happened' to be there, not for those events. How often will this "track" be used this year after this one gala affair? Or is it to be only a one occasion ripoff? Just curious.
Incidentally, the so-called planned "activities, and entertainment" do not seem particularly interesting, unusual or different from other events Thais put on but then maybe the only attendees will be Thais. How many non-Thai visitors will know or be interested in listening to local groups singing in Thai or very poor English and watch a "Muay Thai Expo and bouts featuring legendary Muay Thai boxers such as Samart Payakaroon and Somluck Kamsing" who are probably not known outside of Thailand.

From your comments is it safe to assume you also had some niggling thoughts about why you actually live in Thailand?Have a 6 year old myself and been fighting these monsters daily in our area , just to keep my girl safe...Are we in a savanna in Africa????? A crying shame ..It's all about the mentality of many Thai towards their animals and towards their fellow human beings...a sheit mentality at times, i can say without regret...many just don't care, only about their own.......
And what the hell is that about, that they always want to fix a problem rather then prevent it..Been living here 11 years and still get super annoyed by this ignorance..
Not bashing at all.. generally i love the country and it's people., that's why i'm here over a decade already and have no intention of leaving.....
.It's just a nasty side of reality here...A side that could use a little adjustment and learning of mistakes.....and there's the problem right there...gddmn......4 years old....so sad. I cried when i read it....can feel the pain of the parents.......:(

"I love <deleted>". I reckon the owner knew exactly what it meant. Not game to have it in English, but when he gets home, telling his mates what it means - what a hoot!

Go up to Lopburi and you'll see that bigC is powering along, while the TescoLotus just up the road is on it's deathbed. There will be a whole more box of nails needed before the Thais will prefer Big C over Tesco, or do you still think that the Brits are important for the revenue of a Thai supermarket

Given that I bought yesterday a packet of Weetbix (24) in Woolies yesterday for $2.99, 70baht in a direct conversion, I reckon at 108baht you're still doing ok. And let's face it, what are you going to eat instead? Rice?Uttaradit does not have a Big C yet but one has been proposed , how much extra are people going to have to pay for all of these imported goods an example i usually the Australian cereal Weet-Bix which was 98baht per box of 24 rom Tesco Lotus but it is now 108baht so i wont be buying them any more it seems that Tesco is raising the prices of most things making it very expensive to shop there these days especially with the exchange rate the way it is on the Aussie dollar .

Interesting point about surviving. There'll come a time when the BKK fight with rising water levels becomes unwinnable, given rising sea levels and therefore reducing ability to handle natural flooding from up north.Hopefully the farmers will be compensated for their sacrifice so Bangkok can survive another year.
What then?

Actually it's just one of a number of books telling if experiences in that arena. "The Ravens" by Christopher Robbins and "Air America in Laos" by Stephen I Nichols are examples. All interesting reading! He posted in one of the ASA facebook groups, that he was allowing free downloads for kindle. I thought it was just for ASA people though.
I don't have kindle though.

"pursuit" is exactly what this charade is not. Clearly it is best described as "pursuit avoidance".

Good luck with that. The granting of duty free concessions would appear to be a totally opaque, just like the brown envelopes used as part of the process.

Picked up the finger pointing from Trump.Isn't that style of pointing considered "impolite" in Thailand?

Huh? Thai riders using common sense? You're in a parallel universe. And if you can't see large speed differentials on Thai roads every moment of every day then you're. . . blind. If these Thai riders you are on about used some common sense there would be no reason for increased carnage, and you can forget about "large speed differentials". Dr Tuner is not correct.

Wrong. Dr Tuner is correct. This is Thailand. Thai riders with big bikes learnt how to ride on small bikes. And Thai car drivers dodge lanes way more than in other countries, add to that large speed differentials, and there's every reason for increased carnage.Wrong. I am talking about bigger bikes here, say from at least 250cc up, if other countries can allow it then so can Thailand. If the bike riders ride with common sense there would not be any more blood and guts than other vehicles, they could easily cruise at 80 or 90 Ks per Hr in the inside lane.

He's trying to steer the country towards full democracy - Thai style - ie. with the rules such that the outcome is to his liking . . . Hun Sen style.

The week that was in Thailand news: Thailand colonized at last - More Chins than a Chinese phone book.

Trump's antics are just an ego trip for him, no more than a pot hole in the 'belt and road' for the Chinese. He'll be gone soon enough, the Chinese will still be there.
