  1. FLA's (flooded lead acid's) are extremely robust but need a lot of TLC because they are thirsty. I had an auto watering system with mine and made my own deionised water. Their life expectancy is in the region of 3 years with a depth of discharge not greater than 35% or thereabouts. FLA's are considerably more temperature sensitive than LC's (lead carbons) For every 10°C temperature rise above 25°C the battery life expectancy is halved. Whereas LC's have a much better tolerance and won't start to degrade significantly until the ambient gets above 30°C Economically speaking, if you consider the relative price difference between FLA's and VRLA with lead carbon the price is not that much greater. VRLA's with lead carbon have a design life of 10 years Gel's with lead carbon have a design life of 20 years What this means is the battery life in float/standby mode.
  2. China. My lead carbons are Gel type as opposed to VRLA The difference is a lot more than subtle as is the price. If you have a look around Google there are now many suppliers of this technology. When I got mine there were very few. I went direct to a manufacturer and did my own import using an extremely helpful agent in Bangkok port.
  3. Many years ago I was paid in cash on a Friday afternoon. I could take some of my cash to the post office and put it into a savings account which would earn 4½% Banks would be trying their hardest to get me to deposit my cash with them but their interest rates were less than the Post office (and building societies for that matter). Now here we are in this (wonderfull?) digital money age. Employers pay wages direct into bank accounts. We are asked to use prompt pay or maybe debit cards to pay for goods. Interest on savings is virtually nonexistent. (the banks borrow our money for free) The control we once had over our money, is gone and that has happened in the guise of progress and ease of giving your money to someone else. The speed of returning money when there has been an error is much slower in this digital world than the speed of taking it from us.
  4. Banks will be obliged to pass on information to the revenue department relating to monies received from offshore. The revenue department is thus expecting information to come to them rather than they go looking for it.
  5. Well why not? If Thaksin can do it so can all others.
  6. oh bum. I've been sussed.
  7. They......?
  8. Yeah. I can appreciate your point. Why spend money when you are thinking of dieing before payback time comes around. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I am well into my late 70's and still enjoying technological challenges. My wife keeps telling me I should live 'till I'm 125 so I go for it and stuff my kids inheritances.
  9. Aircon is a power guzzling luxury (or maybe not so much of a luxury). I would suggest that, at current prices, solar technology would give you a payback time which would be well worth the capital outlay. Mind you, it would be more economical to run your AC at a sensible temperature in the region of 27ºC in the bedroom and 30ºC in the lounge and also change to inverter technology if you don't already have it.
  10. "The electric bill is bad enough at 26c" Don't you have solar off grid like everyone else. Ah! Perhaps you live in a condo. Tough
  11. Absolutely second hand well run in and past her smell by date
  12. Some machines like computers, microwave ovens and washing machines have filters which seem designed to leak a little bit. This is normal. Having leakage with all individual breakers off may be indicative of a swapped live neutral wire
  13. I guess your calculator needs new batteries. In 1945 he was twelve..............
  14. Yep! Maruana marguana weed makes you happy to agree with all. Alcohol makes you bludgeon people into agreement.
  15. Good thinking. But, over the years. As more electric bikes are used petrol will become scarce and expensive. More people will have solar power which makes for cheaper motoring. Electric bikes, with few moving parts will become much less costly to buy than petrol bikes.
  16. In the accompanying picture, the masks being handed out are surgical masks. Surgical masks are worn to prevent the wearer transmitting their germs etc. They should be giving out N95 masks to protect the valuable tourists/farang.
  17. That's for certain. I think the young ladies in the back office in Buriram IO must have done the form filling bit.
  18. What a load of fuss and bother some people have had. I simply presented my new passport together with the old one to immigration at Buriram. Insisted, twice, that it is a free service. 10 minutes later was presented my newly stamped (marriage extension) passport and went home. It is a free service and no documents required
  19. From the Urban dictionary Hoeflation is a term which describes the increase in price men have to pay for lower value women. This is reflected through higher prices in terms of, ... Dunno. This is beyond my normal scope of activity.
  20. Can I let you know after I have translated it?
  21. Bit of advice to Banksy Don't come to Phuket. For those who a unaware, google Banksy.
  22. I suspect the police response is along the lines of "What's in it for us?"
