240v? What country are you in? Find yourself a good electrical store that sells control gear. -
Gecko-Proofing Solar Inverter
Muhendis replied to tjo o tjim's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Here's what I did. The insect screens are 1mm stainless steel mesh. The slots in the inverter case and the fan/lizard guillotine* openings are all covered on the inside of the case. I used steel epoxy to hold the mesh in place. The room vents are my own bespoke design using, once again, the 1mm stainless steel wire mesh in a wooden frame. Steel mesh is available on line quite cheap. * Yep! I spent a few minutes extracting a lizard head from one of the ventilation fans in the inverter. -
There have been many changes over the past fifty years or so. The biggest change came when we workers stopped being paid cash. Our money was paid straight into a bank account which meant banks no longer felt the need to attract customers by offering decent interest rates. Retail banking customers became less and less important and the banks made sure it stayed that way by making the customer pay for every little item.

That made me sit up a bit. I did a short search and fount that HSBC have sold their retail business in France and are currently selling it off in Greece too. https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/hsbc-sells-greek-bank-branch-business-2022-03-14/ If they are opening up more in Asia perhaps things will get better?

Non O - 11 week trip

If his wife lives in the UK she may not have a Thai house book. What then? -
I did have one Shopee purchase cancelled not so long ago which actually gave me the opportunity to repurchase the same product at a lower price from a different supplier. There is a reason for this cancellation and that is:- "If the order is not shipped on time, it will be automatically cancelled. If you'd like to give the seller more time to ship your order, click 'Extend Shopee Guarantee'." I think this is to protect the buyer from traders who don't carry stock. It is also a good reason to buy COD.

I agree completely with what you say. I used to use Lazada regularly for years and never had any problems until, that is, they started their own delivery company. At that point deliveries simply didn't happen. Thinking it was teething troubles I tried again after about a year but still no delivery. In fact I was told, not once but twice, to come to the local depot and collect my package. A round trip of 34 km? No thank you. Shopee has been a much better supplier and for the past two or three years I have had no problems with them at all.

RCCB - residual-current circuit breaker
Muhendis replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in The Electrical Forum
I think it is not a good idea to use a whole house RCBO. The simple reason for that is, if something caused it to trip in the middle of the night, you would loose your lights too. -
Current between neutral and ground (3 phase)

I don't know much about pools but is there not a possibility that the water can become electrified from a faulty pump? I just thought the impeller is probably magnetically coupled so maybe not a problem. -

New to me ☹️ I could have done with some of these (non Schnieder) about five years ago. -

New kid on the block is:- https://shopee.co.th/Abb-RCBO-10A-DSN201-AC-C10-0.03-2CSR255050R1104-i.639623820.11092945035?sp_atk=74712aca-f86c-44e8-a5b0-d04e7a4f6bbf These are ridiculously expensive but they combine MCB and RCD into the same size as an MCB and would be useful if whole house protection is not required but individual circuits are (as in the case of you still want lighting when it trips) . I don't know if there are any big enough for an electric shower etc. -
With Shopee, if you look at the details to the right of the picture of the product of interest, just below the price it may say:- Pre-Order (ships in 30 days) or something similar. This means they ain't got it but they will get it for you from China if you would like to wait.

Why are westerners so offended over the word farang? Get over it.

When in the UK, I once asked a New Zealand nurse if she was Australian (because of her accent). Oh boy. You should have seen the look she gave me. I think I was lucky to get treated after that. -

5kW system with 10kW ESS question

I do like your choice. NiFe has a relatively infinite life expectancy that is unaffected by depth of discharge. What would be the cost and availability and why bother with the Must 200Ah? -
Advancements in Battery Technology
Muhendis replied to Muhendis's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
You make good and very valid points with which I agree. It may interest you to know that salt water batteries are already available. https://www.bluesky-energy.eu/en/greenrock-home-2/ and there may be others. It is early days yet so, as you say, the price is probably beyond my pocket but I will be keeping a look out for these batteries for the future. Note there was a company in Pittsburgh about six years ago called Aquion who made salt water batteries. They went bankrupt due to misguided business decisions. The company was put up for auction and one of the unsuccessful bidders was Bluesky in Australia. They clearly believed in the potential of salt water batteries. -

5kW system with 10kW ESS question
Muhendis replied to MJCM's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
You are in the fortunate position of being solar savvy enough to take on a complete installation. There are many who would also wish for solar power but don't know how to go about it. These are the ones who are at the mercy of the double price brigade who may (or may not) do a good job. Without a doubt the "approved" title of an installer would worry me. From experience my Amphur head man has been known to get his recommended/approved electrician to reconnect a house supply but the guy didn't have enough electrical knowledge to know the difference between live and neutral. There are some excellent companies around but we are in a country where qualifications and standards are not well controlled so there is no way to determine which installers are good other than by word of mouth but beware, defamation laws may prevent bad reviews. -
Current between neutral and ground (3 phase)
Muhendis replied to SunshineHarvey7's topic in The Electrical Forum
I didn't resolve it. I found out about the transformer when my wife mentioned, in passing, the PEA transformer work which was ongoing in the village. There is a significant amount of electrical work going on in Buriram at this time due, I suspect, to increasing business and population density. Anything like a misbehaving transformer would be picked up quite easily by the engineers. -

Current between neutral and ground (3 phase)
Muhendis replied to SunshineHarvey7's topic in The Electrical Forum
By coincidence, I just happened to check my PEA incoming neutral to my ground rod yesterday. The voltage was a very satisfactory 21 mV. Incoming PEA supply was isolated. so the reading was the voltage difference between my gnd and the nearest grounded post. Some time ago, when there was a fault in a village transformer, that p.d. was in the region of 60 V and, thinking I had a house wiring fault, caused me no end of head scratching.
