  1. The true test, as has been said before, is can your non-Thai kids inherit your land after you die. I think that would probably be "no". In those circumstances, I would imagine the land would need to be sold to a Thai at some knock down price or taken by a government agency to be sold at auction. As some have said. It is a blatant attempt to relieve foreigners of their hard earned capital.
  2. CO2 emissions have doubled since the industrial revolution. They have been increasing at an accelerating pace as we approach the 1.5 degree required limit. Any steps taken, no matter how small and/or painful, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions are fine by me. What are you doing to help?
  3. There is a problem with this inasmuch that it gives the impression that such a small amount of CO2 is not a problem. It is a big problem and it is getting bigger. Please read the following. https://news.climate.columbia.edu/2019/07/30/co2-drives-global-warming/
  4. The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind - Bob Dylan 1963
  5. Looking at the 'photo I have to ask, "why do women with blond hair dye the roots brown?"
  6. The 90 day report is an address report required by immigration so that they know where to find you. They couldn't give a toss where that is just so long as you tell them.
  7. I won 2,000 Baht once. My life changed completely. Never looked back...........
  8. Yeah. I had a 2,000 Baht bill because of what the red ants did to my fridge control board. Although they didn't cause the RCBO to trip they did manage to fry the electronics by shorting themselves between the incoming live track/trace to the low voltage electronics.
  9. Thanks. How does that work? Does it connect to a network like a mobile 'phone?
  10. My immediate thought is rodents. To verify, you will need to do a visual survey of the places where rats can access your house wires.
  11. The circuit diagram on the RCBO is misleading. When the button is pressed a small electric current should flow to earth through the limiting resistor. A current loop connected to the trip sense coil will detect this imbalance of current between the live and neutral wires and cause the MCB to trip. The button needs to be pressed every month to test this function. As Carlyai said it will save you from getting toasted ????
  12. An idelic life style, but this thread is about saving money. The cost of setting up your mini farm etc would be an investment with a payback time of:- Five years for off grid. Never for home gym. Twenty or more years for the farm. Fruit, fish and egg range from six weeks to five years. Sheep would be difficult to impossible in Thailand. Stop drinking? From reading this forum for a few years I would say that is an addiction which many would find difficult to break.
  13. And don't buy cigarette paper. some of the villagers where I live use dried banana leaves.
  14. Into every life a little rain must fall ???? It seem like you made some good decisions. Well done ????
  15. I know someone who came to Thailand from the UK 10 years ago and brought his UK menu ideas with him. Roast lamb for Sunday lunch etc. He is no longer the rich man he used to be. Some people cannot adapt to new places and cuisine as well as others but it is necessary if you want to enjoy your savings for a longer time. Imported food is way too expensive and the local diet is cheap, tasty and more than adequate for our bodily needs. Another trick is to stop using private hospitals. The government hospitals often employ the same medical staff with the same skills for a fraction of the price.
  16. I did some work on the track-side to train TV laser link for that railway. The company was in Abertillery South Wales and they made laser diode assemblies sold by RS. I often wondered if it ever got installed
  17. This is true but many of the companies I was involved with wouldn't touch them with a barge pole because of traceability issues. Mind you though, these companies had very demanding specs. and unlimited fund chests. A bit like some bar girls I would imagine.
  18. Yes. They used to sell parts for home hobyist radio builders. The catalogue must have been 3" x 8" and about 20 pages. I stopped using them when they got more expensive than pretty well everyone else. However, their delivery speed is/was second to none. Also they have the annoying habit of re-branding their products.
  19. Is that somewhere near Morecambe?
  20. If we get that, my rice will be happier but Jomtien beach will then disappear.
  21. When people ask "where are you from?" I usually answer "Buriram" What they really want to know is "What is your nationality?"
  22. There's a lot of posts about the technicalities of mudflaps which is all good but my take on it is that it's a fashion statement to make the trucks look "different". Same as putting a 10" tin can on the exhaust pipe or twenty mirrors on each side of the windscreen etc.
