  1. Encid. I would like to see Immigration split into two parts. One for long term expats (90 day, visa extensions etc) and one for short time holiday makers. It would mean a new small building nearby but it wouldn't be that difficult. After all they moved from Soi 8 20 or so years ago as it was too small.
  2. If you think it's bad now you should have heard it years ago.
  3. I would suggest after 3. Drop it in ,get your ticket. Walk down the soi and have a beer. By the time you come back it should be ready to be picked up.
  4. There was a film sometime ago with Robert Redford. I think it was called "The Candidate". In it a man is seen showing 3 fingers to Robert Redford who asks his companion what it means, "peace brother and up yours " was the reply.
  5. Sorry, the first part refers to a time after I bought my condo. The second part was when I was still staying in hotels.
  6. I used to pop into Tesco on the way home at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning and before that walking back to my hotel on Beach Road at 5 .30. Stopping at a beer bar along the way and waking the girl up under the counter to serve me a drink. long time ago I was young then.
  7. Any idea about the cost of a small package (albeit 4 kilos) from Pattaya to Bangkok.
  8. with reference to late night opening. I can member getting on my bike after leaving the bars at 2 or 2.30 and going to Tesco for some late night shopping.
  9. I was going to pass a comment but it's been covered by the previous posts.
  10. The dead body in a crashed car the other day probably thought (before the crash) that it was the smart thing to do. I pulled up by a car yesterday and there was noway to see into the car from the side, I couldn't even see a shape.
  11. Before Covid I used to order various pies and Bacon and sausages etc from Buriram Pie Man. Delivered by bus to the bus station on Sukhumvit. As the bus fare was added to my order I used to wait until my little freezer was nearly empty before ordering to make it feasible. The main reason for ordering (apart from the fact of the quality) it was the only place I found that did a favorite of mine Boiling Bacon. My freezer is full right now but when it empty's I will be reordering.
  12. Many years ago all Public Houses had cellars. These were necessary to lower the air temperature to about 55 or 56F. Which meant that traditional ales were served at the right temperature. With the coming of electricity and cooling systems most recently built pubs don't have cellars.
  13. If you can find it you should try St Miguel Dark. Retox used to have it occasionally years ago.
  14. I had a small box of secondhand books sent over. My nephew arranged through his shipping company to send them, no charge. On arrival here DHL wanted 1400 Baht for tax. Secondhand books theoretically are tax free. A few years ago some friends moved here from the UK. After contacting the embassy they were informed that personal second hand goods were tax free. So before they came they arranged for a container to be shipped with the contents of their house that they wanted to bring over. A few weeks after they arrived they were informed by the shipping company that it had arrived at Laem Chabang and could be picked up. On arrival at the port the customs Officer said that there was a 400 pound (I forget the Thai amount) duty to be paid. When they said it should be Tax Free he said you can appeal but it would take months and the container would sit here all that time. They paid.
  15. No, stopped completely when Covid hit. Before that for years during the day you very rarely waited more than a few minutes. The service got worse over the years and sometimes you had to wait over 10minutes. . Then caramel Covid and it died.
  16. I live on Thepprasit, I just wish that the Baht buses on Thepprasit would start running again. It was so handy, 10 Baht to Thappraya Road then either another to Jomtien or Pattaya.
  17. I think I would rather wait for the Blood Test result before joining the "hang him high" brigade.
  18. There is a shop on 3rd Road near the Soi 17 intersection which sells them for 22,000 Baht or look online for 16 to 18,000 Baht (lazada)
  19. Beach Road 3 o'clock in the morning and they get mugged. What do they expect.
  20. I also use Dr Warin Leekpai and am quite happy with him. That said I was impressed by the German Dental Centre's website on showing a complete price list of services.
  21. Racist pure and simple. If you look like a Thai -Thai price, if you look like a Farang -Farang price.
  22. I loved the Trinkisms. I used to buy the Bangkok Post on Friday just to read him. It did pixx me of when they cut him to half a page,
  23. Before moving here 16 years I spent 34 years coming here on holiday, Sometimes twice a year In all that time I have never see a violent incident and it's not as though I didn't spend much of my time in places like Soi Nana and Walking Street. Mind you years ago it wasn't called Walking Street.. I did see attempted violence once in Phuket a Thai lady was trying to brain a guy with a piece of 4x2 for going with another lady. She never caught him. I'm not saying violence doesn't happen but compared to some other countries it is much safer.
  24. I rode past the entrance of Walking Street this morning at 10.15 and the entrance was impassable due to the road works.
  25. The manufacturer states that the sealed unit can only be accessed by their trained staff. I must admit I can't see anyway to open it.
