Foreigner Sparks Outrage for Doing Thai-Only Job in Phuket
nrasmussen replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
So how do these critics know that he is not a Thai national? -
I've looked through my notifications, and don't see any message warning me of the change. It is of course possible that it came by some other means - Shopee sends so many emails, notifications, and Line messages every day that I tend to ignore them. I'm pretty sure that the notification would have been from the ShopeePay app and not Shopee.
-
I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I believe it was a notification in the app.

Actually, they did notify about a month ago that they were going to close all accounts held by foreigners. They also provided instructions on how to get any remaining money transferred out.

Yes, it really is that simple, isn’t it? It’s mind-boggling that so many posters on this forum fail to understand that. For the record, I have previously only remitted non-assessable funds, so I haven’t filed any tax returns (except once, to claim a refund for withheld tax on interest from my Thai bank account - and I only did that to obtain a Thai TIN so I could satisfy my home country bank’s requirements). Now, due to this change, some of the funds I remitted in 2024 are assessable, so I will file a tax return. However, no tax will be payable due to deductions and other factors. As a bonus, I’ll even receive a refund for withheld tax on interest (something I hadn’t bothered with before because the small amount wasn’t worth the hassle).

7-Eleven Introduces Convenient PromptPay QR Code Payments Nationwide
nrasmussen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In addition to paying at 7-Eleven and taking care of utility bills, it also offers a virtual Prepaid Mastercard that can be added to Google Wallet. I find this convenient as it enables me to pay with my watch. -
Thailand's Landmark Move: Same-Sex Marriage Legalised

Yes, indeed. Probably quite a lot. I think that's the main reason for the 120-day moratorium. -
Thailand unveils new visa rules, sparks mixed reactions
nrasmussen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
No. What you will get is a multi-entry visa with a validity of 5 years giving 180 days permission to stay each time you enter the country, with the option, once per entry, to apply for an extension of the permission to stay with a further 180 days. -

Wise problems

Yes, that makes sense. (I'm sorry that I phrased my reply like that. I misinterpreted your statement about not knowing to be a question. I apologise for putting words in your mouth.) -

Perhaps your own quote answers your question: I.e., the amount of THB needs to be already in Thailand to cover your transfer and, if not, they will have to delay until they have enough THB locally to put into your account. -
Yes, first learn the alphabet and then the tone rules. Otherwise, getting the pronunciation correct will be difficult.

One dead, 30 injured in Singapore Airlines emergency landing

This is all true. No argument from me. My comment was in response to a general observation and not specifically to this incident. -

Yes, I find that annoying too. Of course, whenever you hear "Cabin crew take your seats!" you know when you should definitely not go to the lavatory. -
Payment QR Codes

To each their own; however, I'm quite happy using my watch. -
Payment QR Codes
nrasmussen replied to WalsallRobbo's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yes, they do indeed. And the best thing about those (i.e., contactless payment terminals) is that there's even no need for fumbling with a card. I just hold my watch to the terminal and payment is done. I don't think it can be any easier than that. -
Payment QR Codes
nrasmussen replied to WalsallRobbo's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
My guess is that it's because there are too few customers insisting on paying with cash for the vendors to bother with the hassle and expenses of handling cash. -

Apparently too few for the vendors to bother. -
Yeah, that's certainly unacceptable. I guess I should count myself lucky that I live where I only have to waste one hour total.
