Getting a licence early makes sense, obviously if here only for a few weeks a year i wouldn't bother, but usually those initial weeks leads to months then years. I think i got mine when i stayed 3-4 months a year.

Often not as simple as that, in Pattaya they'll want to see owners ID, plus the fine if late, maybe 2k? hassle anyway, something the owner or agent should be doing

I've not heard of anyone being denied boarding (its usually airline that checks), so it "should" be ok, of course a visa would stop you worrying, just get your story straight, maybe book a flight out of Thailand, cancelable flight

Annual policies are restricted to consecutive days 30, 45, 60, think i got 90 once, no more. You can get travel insurance \backpacker insurance for up to 18 months (consecutively), sometimes a max age limit 45, probably varies per country
