  1. God, I can't believe the cynicism and bitterness here. I think all the critics and police slaggers should move back to their own country where all the cops, lawyers and elected officials are perfect and people fully appreciate their arm-chair quarterbacking. It's a lot easier to criticize than it is to actually do the work, isn't it?

The clearance rate for murders in the US is 60%, lower for stranger-on-stranger violence.

The Phuket police identified the suspect in less than 48 hours and it's only a matter of time before he's caught.

Who gives a flying <deleted> if the cops had to visit bike shops and shooting ranges to ID the guy, they found out his identity and he'll be captured and brought to justice. They did a lot better than cops in a lot of other places.

  2. What makes you think that? The cops have video evidence he was in the area at the time, and he confessed.

Like I said, what could they offer an innocent person to confess to murder?

"Here's 1m baht. Lie and say you did it, oh, and you'll be executed by a firing squad next week, are you cool with that ?

    "

Why am I not suprised a Burmese man got pulled in and forced to confess? This stinks of a set up. The international pressure on the police meant this was going to happen.

  3. So much cynicism here. There are loads of unsolved murder cases in all of your home countries and I don't see any threads complaining about the UK "Keystone cops".

Natalie Holloway (sp?) the US student who was murdered many years ago and the police there and in the Netherlands don't have a clue.

The police in Koh Tao are investigating a crime, they went down the wrong path a couple times but they kept investigating and now they have someone in custody who confessed.

What kind of deal are they going to make to an innocent person who confesses to rape and multiple murder who will be executed if found guilty. How could they coerce someone to confess, what could they threat to do that's worse than a firing squad ? Unless the accused is a serial confessor to crimes he didn't commit, I'd tend to believe his confession.

Wait for the "DNT" (sic) tests and other forensic work to cone in before you posit your own complicated conspiracy theories, unless you don't mind being told "I told you so" by the other people here.

  4. Thanks for the links. I'll contact Toto to see if they can direct me to a dealer.

On the other site, the Clean Butt Bidet Spa CB-7500R looks identical to the Zenith I have at another house, except for the remote and the fact it's a lot more expensive than the one I got in Europe.

I noticed that the Clean Butt Bidet Spa CB-7500R has been superseded by the Brondell Swash 1000 Premium Bidet. The CB-7500R itself replaced the old Assmaster 5000.

  5. I should have bought one when I was in Tokyo, I can't find them anywhere in Thailand. When I ask at home improvement stores or the plumber working on our house they look at me like I'm asking for a time machine or a vial or unicorn tears.

Has anyone found a place in Thailand, preferably in the Northeast, to buy a good quality toilet seat with adjustable sprayers, heated water and warm air ass dryer?

Home Pro has a very basic one, cold water, no adjustment and no dryer and it looks like it would last a week before it fell apart. I think the display model was broken before it was even ever used.

I've had one at my place in Europe for 5 years and never had a problem with it.

  6. As mentioned above, solar heating of water will reduce your consumption. That technology is more efficient now than photovoltaic cells. My new house has LED lights everywhere we can use them, more efficient and they can be dimmed and last for years. Fan palms are good for shading the 2nd story. Clumping giant bamboo will provide shade for the west side of our house. I wish Thailand would do more to encourage the use of alternate energy sources, we've sure got enough sunlight here.

  7. I think the simple answer is that you'd need a bit more than the largest system (5.88kw) because your average monthly bill is 4500 and their ad, which I'm assuming are based on the average price per Kwh, and the ad says it will save you 4200 a month.

The 5880w setup plus an extra set of 5x280w panels and grid-tie should net you a 0 baht p/m bill.

The pay-back time may be long but in my opinion it's worth it to have no electric bill for the life of the house. If you sell the house, it's going to be worth more so the math isn't just a matter of initial cost vs savings per month.

There's other things when building or making improvements on a home than just ROI. What's the ROI on my 160k carport? What's the ROI on my higher ceilings, what's the ROI on my pool?

Spending 300k now is peanuts to never see an electric bill for the rest of my life. I'd rather have it paid up front while I have extra money and not have to worry in 10 years that I don't have an extra 5ka month for energy bills.

Except for repairs and moo baan tax I can live there for free, I have a big enough garden to keep me in veggies and Mrs.God in som tam to be almost completely self-sufficient. Ikke som fornuftig?
