Anyway, we will change nothing. Fact those thai people who accept the reality are not staying here, but going abroad with their skills, knowledge and wills. Those who stay here are people who mostly do not have the capacities to compete in other countries. By so they get frustrate, bitter , looking only to get what they consider their rightfull rights and that is alas owned by some white monkeys (I speak about caucasian people because I am sure Dave can explain us best how thai people love Arabs or african person, it is not Dave?).

I read Dave in thailand quoting he have an house here. Wonder how he can say so. Maybe he used his money to allow his wife to buy an house. In that case , what if he leave the country? Your wife still own it, but what about the kids? They will not, so who will inherit it? Uncle? aunt? Do your kids will ever go there when your wife will pass away? Ispeak about house, I know it';s irrelevant (for now) about condo. Anyway Dave, LOS thank you to have given your money, still thank you to run a business here and by so give more money. The only problem is : as all foreigners you are such a pollutiion in LOS, could you simply let your money here, your business here (some wonderfull thai angels will take care of it better than you do) and simply go to hang yourself (with the others foreigners such I) somewhere else?????? It would be the ultimate proof you deeply and indeed understood the thai culture carried by a part of the thai society (A PART is a key word).

Without irony, the root problem is culturally a girl who stand by a foreigner (mean who is behaving as a gf or a wife) is still considered low person by an important part of the thai population. Important mean not all, but mean you still have to deal with this situation. This behavior is often carried out by motorcycle boy, taxy, condo guards ....All people too ugly, too poor and too stupid to have a chance to get a 20 y old student as gf (and then as wife). Mostly those people can not imagine the girl can really choose to share a farang life or raise a familly with him. They simply consider if she have sex with a farang, so she is ready to have sex with anybody. Because she became low class by standing with a farang.
Last point, I drink only iced tea, alcohol is baned from my room, and by so I watched world cup games (my thai friends think is 'mei sanook' if they can not express themself with 2 or 3 liter of beer chang). Anyway, but it's OT, in 5 years I get some marvellous rship, but the only person close to what I call a friend is a US man, others are mostly friend when you are able to pay their drink, in other case they are so sorry ....

the way they look at the females is different. They are raised, educated (if possible), clothed, and groomed to snare the richest man possible and bring the most money back to the family both in the way of sin sot, monthly allowances, and “face” or enhanced community position. I share with my fellow compatriots the shame to have make loose face to the so clevert national thai coach who claimed yesterday in Bangkok Post Brazil would win by several goals of difference. Btw Brazil did not won against France since at least 20 years, and the last time it was 'several goals' it was in 1958 with the Great Pele, and a french player who had a broken leg.
I am also fully ashamed to have witnessed the (in)famous 'Flying Pig' demonstrate one more time he was not only kinda ugly and fat, but also carrying a bad temperament and certainly more fitted for wrestling than to be a footballer with the class of Beckham (no kidding, Beckham is a great player).

My real sadness is the brazilian who leave the competition. that game was wondefull, players were fairplay (argentina germany ????????????????), they played football and not a new martial art. Let say after Seville 1982, Gualdalara 1986, Paris 1998, it was another demonstration sometimes (often now) people should better to learn than to stay in their ivory tower.

First of all........goddamnit I'm so sick and tired of hearing all you expats complain about Thailand constantly, everytime you get the chance of saying something negative about the place, you will take it and throw out all your faul and negativeness in the face of us. That post about proguns....... that one ticks me right off too. It's not exactly Einstein material that lesser guns will kill fewer people and you can take thoose statistics and shuff em' up. @mazaki, I am an old member (maybe 4 years), and with 5 years + of living and working in LOS. So I do not like the 'sour tud', really dislike. The problems / comments made here by some expats are also made by Thais people who get a western education.CAn oyu also call them 'Sour Tud'?
I live here (thailand), pay taxes here, make money coming from abroad enter here ... Somewhere I am an active actor inthis country, even I am proud to be NOT a citisen of it.
So the reason of my presence? Well, all is cheap here : beer, girls, even my prices are competitive while I am here (hardly be throught in EU).
But should I accept any thing from stupid morons on the ground they are born on thailand and if I do not do it they will loose face?
Becaus here is the real problem, Thai living in thailand mostly do not search to improve the quality of what they do, and by so increase their income ( a mercedes is more expensive than a 2 CV), but simply are stating they have to get the same as the farangs on the ground farang are only farang (ting tong, ling ....) and as they are thai (the best of the best, the salt of the earth ....) they have right to claim farang money.
Killing an infidel is not a murder. We heard that in europe some times ago. Here 800 years after they still say the same.
Possible to change it? I do not think so. So, or we accept the full package (cheap beer, cheap girls, murder threat, money legally stolen ...) or yes we have to leave. Personally I used the earlier option during 5 years, I am comtemplating the later now. During 4 years I got hard life to create something stable. Now it's stable and the result is to have vultures coming around. Personnal feelings sure, but what I think is Thailand is a wonderfull place for a middle aged white male coming here on a regular vacation (2 times a year). He will get more than he can expect for the money he will spend : love, respect, fun, laught entertainment .... all things that we enjoyed us for a while. But Thailand is by no way a place where you have a normal life with the usual standart a civilised person (without regards for his skin colour, religion, or geographical origin) wish to have. So I am slowly packing my things and I will leave one day. As PErson it's not important, but somewhere it will be some millions of bahts that will not come here anymore but in another country.

1) I do website, but it's outsourcing, and I do NOT work for local. So please all what I will say as the words from a respectable tech, not as plain advert, because even if someone if offering me 5 times what I earn + a WP, I will refuse (lol).
2) the main reasons to have a presence on internet are 2 :
a) open an e-shop and do business, the risk are similar to those you have to open a real shop and trying to sell tom yum noodle; it can work well, it can also fail. Here you will have direct earnings.
try to generate enought side-earnings to provide you a living. That is what a poster presented with buy 100 websites , and earn 100 000 bht per month. The side earning will be generate by PPC programs as Addsense or CJ (commission jonction), or similar.3) downfalls :
Well both system have (alas) , but they are not the same :
a) In case of direct earning, the problem is not really how much visitors you have, but how much orders you get. Here we are in Thailand, and the fact to be not able to use paypal directly (money must go to a bank account in USA, so it disqualify people as I who are french) will hurt certainly when starting. The starting moment is important, because when yo ualreaady have a pool of returning customers , you are happy and well in your shoes. You will be able to try several strategy to improve, but as the money enter regulary, you can take the time to choose wisely a strategy. Very similar to real shops.
with side earnings, the amount of visitor is crucial. So you must have or a SEO well made, and must be working for both google and MSN without forgetting askjeeves or other secondary search engines. Also, even if you are rated well, you must hit a large public. LEt say a great website + a wonderfull SEO for a site related to the growing of burgundy snails in lower hungria during the 30 wars years (even if primordial since 20 years due the quasi disparition of burgundy snails in burgundy) will certainly attrack only a limitate number of visitors , even if you are number one for the related words, and they will not come back every day, nor click on all the add you can have. The best exemple is Thaivisa, who was close to be nothing 5 years ago and that is now a big one, miostly due the fact George invested a lot of time to get add that pay, and then get visitors (some thousands perdays). So yes I do know people here in thailand or in France or in Europe who have their living by the side earning money ... They have numerous websites, all are SEO top level, with very cibled and attractive content ( look also ajarn.com, I do not know if Phil still teach, but I bet if he do so it must be because he love to teach, not because he need money). So that is also a work, it take time energy as any other work. Because here also people have to come back to you . People love to be amongst their peirs, and nothing better than a forum dedicaced to something share by many, the concept is close to the Tele evangelism ....There is a miffle way, used by some adult site (the one who use Michael as photograph , as I do not want to precise the name of the site). They do the followings :
they create for each and any models a small website (1 or 2 pages) named :maibangkok.net, pompattaya.th ..... und so weiter .... Those small sites are only composed by an intro from the model (hello, I am nan , I am happy to share those pic from my friend of XXXXXXXX with you) + several outdated picts (not good enought to be in the main site). Those site have all addsense + broad link to the main site (the main site have a very different name of any other small sites). Then the small sites are send as link to the numerous free galleries/ranking sites reserved to adult websites. So they get horny visitors , who get more horny, some so much horny they click on the add thinking they will got more naked pictures, or who clikc on the link to the main sites .... It's a winning situation for the sites owners. BEcause more visitors coming from outside mean also better rating/ranking in google (it's not only the amount but also where they come from who is taken in count).
I do not think the adult website survive with the subscrition, but because this system who attract new lookers (visitors) and also generate side earnings.
So my advice would be to clearly defines what you are looking for ; ecommerce? So get OSCommerce, it's free, easy to install and maintain, then you just have to burn a candle in a church or a temple. On the other hand, if you want to get side earning mney, there is a broad reflection to have , and also be aware money never come easily, mean you will have to work also (adult website = heavy work with photoshop ... I know some of the tops models on the net, and in real they do not look really like they are on the picture , acnae can happend sometimes , white night also let traces under the eyes).

In the UK you can't even open a bank account with a proper long term visa, let alone a credit card. Some banks won't even open up a bank account unless you you have been in the country for a year.
Thailand is no different, and probably easier, than most places.

Be a tourist in European Union, you will not be able to open a bank account in a country there (or you must be a german tourist touring in france, or a spaniard touring in Belgium). but in Thailand , as tourist you can find bank that will accept to open a saving account. So yes, easier here. And assuming by long term visa you imply a long term touristic visa. A 10 years visa delivered after you have a work permit (as it's the case in France), is not only a visa, but a residence certificat, and by so allow you to be not considered as tourist (not residing , nor paying taxes) but as a resident (living, paying taxes, working). The point is important, if the OP have a business here, I am assuming he is not a tourist (he does not do a monthly gig to Polpet).
As legal resident in a country inside the European Union, you can open a bank account, personnal or professional and by so have all the advantages of that account (CC, loans ...). In France, you will not need more paperwork than a french citizen, but a copy of your visa in more of your passport copy (a french citizen will give only the copy of the ID). I will not comment on what is need in Thailand, the OP gived to us a concrete exemple for a legal resident in Thailand. Btw us for SCB it's 150 000 bht per month, not just 80 000 bht. So no, it's very different and more complicate. More, I would like to say if one day a bank or assimilate decided to do the same in France, that bank would be sued as racist or xenophobist etablisment.
On the other hand, and it's maybe the point, we are only guess here, so if really it bother us too much, the best solution is simply to leave (thai people are the only ones who know what is the best for themself or their country). So, personnaly I am looking to change the system, anyway it's was not designed to made my life easiest. But if one day the system is too much bothering me, I will simply take my money back and go somewhere else where grass look more green.

And when you get your credit card, you have a pittiful credit level, nearly non existant purchase protection, no fraud protection and annual fees.
Whereas a card from back home provides all the benefits with no charges, and if you choose your card right you can get several months intrest free credit.
Why any foreigner would want a second rate Thai credit card is beyond me.
To explain you :
In my country, people will look at you as a 'potentially bad person' if you live there, earn money there and use an abroad bank account. It will just mean you do not care with the country, his economic stability (send money abroad rather than to use it locally, as french bank used the deposit to do investment on the french economy). To be short, let say if one day you apply for french citizenship but did not use the banking system in the past, it will certainly be refused.
Same apply to foreigners in thailand. Those who genuily decided to move their life here simply think it's natural to use the local banking system. There is things that are considered by some of us as more important than some little money.
Alas, if the way to do is (in my 2 cents) the honorable one and the one that should be taken by a gentleman (I mean use the local banking system with amongs many things the issuing of local CC); fact is Thailand obviously is not interresting by our wishes. Well, to make short (stupid generalisation but it's also not far to be a truth) Farang must pay.
Someone who have a legal business (capital already invested in thailand), who legally live in Thailand, with eventually a thai wife and half thai kids, will not flee home because dept, or if he do so it will be easy to trace him. I do understand the Khao San Road backpacker can not have any banking here (in France he will not have also), but the OP obviously is not a backpacker. So yes , Farang must pay .... SCB need 150 000 bht/month as salary to deliver a thai CC.... What is the salary of an english teacher (A legit one with diploma and experience) 30 K 35 K maybe 40 K ...nothing related to security. Just .... like so many things here.

First better to host outside thailand as long as you use a DB, have some critical datas (can be accounting, clients address or adult photos in case of xxx website). Also you will have something easier to get from outside thiland.
I can advice wbpro.com, the starting package is $6/month if you buy one year. Mostly the customers queries are made within 6 hours.
Also, I canadvice to take a big look, because there is thousands of companies who do that business, so better to look before to choose.

Well, there is out there people who have as only living the creation and the selling ofsoftwares. Some do it well (Bill is an exemple of success story), some not. Using pirating softwares is like take money from their pockets.

Anyway there is still the good old trick to use the 15 days free trial, and uninstall (registry include) and reinstall every 15 days. I like to do so, because if it's prog I use one or 2 times a year, I do not need to buy it. But if I use intensively that prog, so it quickly became a pain in the a**** and so I tend to pay for it (not fo it in fact, but I pay to not have to waste time to reinstall it). People worked to realise, so I find normal to pay if I really use it.

Right, did I said something different? I said that is processed inside google, not outside, and so or you know how google do and so you can prepare your page to fit that , or you do not know and have to guess how it will behave.I do not see what you teach us in more here. I do understand you discarded the documentation from google or from MSN, I am silly but I like to think those who wrote the doc as they are also those who made the programms know at least correctly what they are talking about.
The only answers I got about well formed page was to hear the W3C recommendations were useless. Well, should I comment? It's like to hear a coder pretending the RFC are shit documents. That is the usual jokes when we meet to issue new RFC. RFC stand for Request For Comment incase you did not know, and they are issued by the IETF.
2) avoid full page in flash, full website in flash. Well, there is way to open (decompacter, decompacting?) a .swf, I do that daily. But it's a bit CPU intensive, and the fact to use that with a spider it's more a ugly corner hack than anything. And it's not used by any searchengine. So what is inside a .swf is not recognised by a spider (dito google documentation and MSN documentation). I do agree the URL will still exist and can be add to the search engine DB, but the relevancy calculation will be not accurate.
3) I also stated the serach engine (MSN, Google, AskJeeves ....) are website connected to a DB. One thing that is secret is how big is Google cluster, and how many DB they use, but basically that is a website + a DB. Google amongst the last 3 years released some corporate appliance with a 'google light' inside. I do suppose well informed IT specialistes as the 2 other posters have knowledge of that and have already checked those appliances. They basically stock path to documents and give them a rank when you are searching for a file (my_selling_sheet.xls for exemple). Made and sold by Google, it must certainly mean they use a soft inside that is based on google.com. Am I right? And if yes, why not have take a look at it to have a better overview on how google work? Did you?
Still talking about facts : Google and MSN have issued notice and documentations. Why do so if it's not to help people for the referencing? Why help people? Well, a direcotry or a search engine that is popular is in fact a huge milkcow, so more people are referenced in my DB, more accurate is my Db, more visitors I will have (the visitors create the money because I can sell advertising). So I have to have the website owners who ask for referencing. So the referencing must be easy, and the maintenance of the referencing must be automatic and also easy. The best is to teach the website owner what the spider is looking for, so like that all will be smooth. So documentation are not theory, but fact. The corner stone in fact.

Sting, I have given several solid examples in one of my previous posts on this thread, of php and asp pages ranked #1 and #2 in Google. There are enough html pages out there that should have been ranked higher, if what you say is correct.
Check google coding or similar, and you will see how the ranking is made.1. Google founders have gone from nothing to being multi-billioners in a few years. They did not do it by following what "other spiders" are doing.

I do have a part of the old source code (06/05/2003 is written at line #3). Nothing is secret or buried that deep if you know where to search.
Spider is a parser, so basically they are all the same. I repeat the 'magic', mean how each and every search engines are different, is the way they handle the data (first to feed the DB, then to extract the data with a certain order). Spider is a mere parser, or a basic parser + an evoluate behavior given by a set of rules (mostly those rules are the same for all, as proof the robo.txt file you can find in each and every website).
About the php/asp vs html, let say that : www.thaivisa.com/index.html will be ranked higher than www.thaivisa.com/index.php, assuming the index.html is simply made with the html source (the one oyu get when you rightclick). It's so obvious. It's also a specification given by google and MSN, both societies have issued several guides/step by step, I given one link for google, but it's the only one. You have to read them before to say. I do think google engineers or MSN enginers know best, so I repeat what they say (about the 150 K, about the complex url using special characters). You can argue TV is ranked one, but TV is a special case : long time existing, with a pool a devoted people and I am speaking about George who invest energy / life time in this site. If you say the opposite, please do a communication to Google enginers, they are actually looking for seasonned and experienced people for the Asian pacific region. I do believe the 150 K limit exist for perfomance reasons, mean the spider is doing a parsing, regex is CPU consuming, and there is no point to look for a word that is a the bottom of a 200K web page. Because that word will certainly used in a irrelevant context (true for any kind of context).
I do not think it would be wise of me anyway to explain too much, or you will refuse to get my points on the ground you think differently, or worst you will get it clearly, but you will claim in 2 or 3 month you made the discovery by yourself. I simply invite those posters who are seasoned , talented experts in the IT fields since years to read the documentation from google and MSN (it's very basic you will not get headhache I swear), and then take a look to the internal coding of both of them (yes you can find, you just have to search for that). IT will improve your knowledges.

Maybe a mod or George himself could delete both posting from I and Techie. It will make the topicclean, and show the answers already made. Those answers are mostly accurate, and give a good idea of what to do.
It's not related about handbags, and I do hope it do not imply I am a queer, a fagg or a ponce. Not techie. The argumentation was related to technical point of view obviously different. Even if I used to be quite agressive and arrogant, I do consider noone used personal attack and do not see the need to start on that.
What did I say? I mostly said IT business is a technical one, who need technical knowledge, I showed even with top level knowledge it's possible to be mislead (techie own website who have residual javascript errors), and it's the same for SEO. Even hightly competents people can NOT promise to success everytime for any pages.
Anyway, for my part I consider I genuily provided technicall advices to the OP, then technical advice on that subject and on the way to build an error free website to techie , so maybe better if I stay concentrate on my wor rather to polluate the forum

But btw us, if really when you use IE 5.5 or 6, when IE is in debugging, and when you browse techie website and get the same error (related to line 97) doing what I describe, if you can reproduce that error, so I do hope it will mean I was not fool/silly/idiot/arrogant to post what I posted, but that I have at least for one point say accurate things. I do not have the need to know why it happend, I know the reason well, and any decent coder will know, as any decent coder will always run IE in debugging mode to avoid to release garbage on the net. But btw us, how can you clain to be top notch for a so specific subject, and be not able to propose a correct and bug free website? So a professional coder will point out javascrit is simply enable to read what is after him in the coding, but only what is before (that's thereason to push the javascript function in the <head> to have read by the browser as soon as.And the same professional coder will tell you before to think about any SEO work on that site, you have better to make it more user friendly and faster to appear ( 36 second with 2 Meg/sec, even by thai mean it's a bit long, and it's well know most of the websurfers dislike to wait).
Look, in 5 lines, I have give you 2 advices, both very technical, that should improve your visibility on the net, improve also your credibility (you should not challenge people when you are not sure at 150%), and certainly save some money on the long run.

I repeat to be sure you understand and can reproduce it . I also precise I use IE 6 with window XP, IE 6 run in allow debugging mode ( you know what I mean, tools>internet option> and 'tutti quanti')
So please first fix your website, or ask someone to do it if you do not know what to do (not me I am busy sorry), and then come back to me ,come back to us. Right now I feel you do not have much credibility (how someone will ask you to do their website if you are no able to realise your own?)

I like Sunbelt way to operate, he come here and give advice, real advice, not just ' My company can handle it, take a rendez vous'. The guy take time to answer the question.
