  1. wow, what an absolute nightmare. im pretty freaked about tb. its all over india.

    hope your wife is better!

was this nam pik meng.da? Wife loves that nasty stuff.

i also have a horor story about how a guy i knew, his wife died in doctors hands. bad operation led to infection. looked to me he caught chlamadia (pattaya) and gave it to his wife. she had full blown pid and genius removed her appendix (hey, hey had her opened up anyway $$$) shitty issan doctors, imcompetence and greed a potent mix. Who says blowjobs cant kill is very wrong indeed. Poor girl started a laundry service and was sucessful. <deleted> husband couldnt keep it in his pants. he sent her upcountry too, was cheaper. he was an ass, left pattaya with bar debts. Maybe someone caught up to him in uk?

  2. My MiL and SiL borlth cook for a living. It's very hard worknand will make your wife old before her days. Some yrs back, wife and I toyed with idea of going back to US. She was adamant about not cooking in a restaurant which was fine with me.

Had a regular girl msny yrs ago, her sis had resty in Prachuap. Went under.

Its tons of hard work, great food and reasonable prices. Thai will pay up for good food.

My favorite saying I've made up about Thailand:

Thailand, a place where even the poor are food snobs.

  3. Don Muang used to be such a joy do many years ago. It about as expensive as a shopping mall, if that. It did go to crap when they added shops to every possible square meter. I'm convinced they did not need a new airport, just mire shitty shops.

Loved that old employee canteen too. Man, I had all the tricks down at that airport. B5 train into the city, B10 longtail to ksr. Exit plane and be in my guesthouse other side of town in much less than two hours. No traffic, zero. Back in the day when bkk had 2am traffic jams lasting hours.

But hey, Swampy has Airport Link. It's something.

  4. Most Thais don't know the true tenants of Buddhism. I mean Buddha said "do not worship me or any likeness of me" hmmmm?

Few days ago I saw a monk in s new robe semi hiding off the MRT firing up a commerically rolled cigarette. I did a double take and he looked back my hunch is thinking oh farang looking at a monk. I was thinking how un Buddhist of him to be smoking, to be smoking expensive fags with money that was given to him for reasons anything but.

Hey, an old monk twisting one up at the end of an evening, no problem. A city monk with a habit, problem.

Thais dont have a huge depth of understanding about Buddhism slthough they are quite good with the rituals and ceremonies. Thainess.

  5. The 2014 budget was approved prior to all the serious nonsense, the catetaker govt has authoity to spend money in accordance and cannot create new expeditures correct?

If a new fresh govt is not in place, it cannot create and pass the 2015 budget as well, correct?

Is there a time when govt workers - those in all the ministries in BKK, even the military, police, trains, aviation...whatever. Can they go unpaid due to aforemrntioned or other reasons?

Would then anti Yingluck PTP supporters dry up?

Would typical useless bureaucrats in the ministries go without checks potentially?

  6. Would any of you be getting plastic surgery done in your own country?? Now in Thailand you think you're back in "the game", sorry but your only appeal is your bank account. Save that useless surgery money to pay your "girlfriends" who could pass as your daughter or granddaughter, a higher allowance/salary, god knows they earn it.

The op is talking about a procedure that costs 18k <deleted>.

Some guys are just so unattractive, ungroomed and unhealthful...

It's nothing I obsess over, someday I will have a facelift. My wife is 15 yrs younger and I want to look good for her and with her.

Sure, I could say what the hell, sit on a barstool all day, get fat, loose a tooth or two, stop washing daily. But then I would be like an aquaintence I know - found out yesterday he is dead. Unhealthy lifestyle.

Personally, I have no kids. My wife gets whatever money is left, when I sm done with it. I am not a lottery. As for relatives, no relative is giving me any of their millions so I don't see a need to pass on my scrapings to kids that never contact me.

There is though thankfully, COPPER. Supplements are bullshit. Good health comes from ingestion of healthy food.

  7. The online app is what it is.

    Stack of supporting paperwork:

    Documents showing govt job

Letter from entity guaranteeing job on return

    Itinerary and bookings

    Copy bankbook/s

    Copy property and or auto/motorcycle

Huge question will be on their minds, how will she get about? City to city easy enough but "seeing the US" without a car might be an issue.

I would not make reference to visiting or being assited by any Thai's in country.

  8. Language schools like to hire young 20-30 somethings preferably hipsters. You will need to contact an agency in most circumstances to obtain "corporate" work. Those jobs are not always consistent employment, often involve evenings (as language schools) and agencies which are notorious in the way they manage their staff (teachers).

It is my impression that persons hired to do corporate gigs have prior experience teaching. Perhaps even CELTA.

You "unfinished" MA in what precisely?? Anyway, that amounts to about three classes is my guess. IMO unfinished gets the goose egg here as everywhere else. Seems like an empty boast even to place three classes on your resume. Better to have had a TEFL. I personally do not find unfinished degree work the least bit impressive (not being snarky).

You might have great sucess teaching Russian, but honestly I don't see Thais learning Russian. I had a semester of it and found it quite insane (no wonder they drink so much).

Public schools which you are not interested in require a BA in Education or better (or so it seems at present, the lic. commission is an abdolute mess). Jobs pay 30k month, ten months a year often.

Traching corporate lessons without a permit you will really open yourself up to getting screwed by non payment. In fact, this is true simpky working for agencies.

  9. It is very safe. You can even walk in the middle of the mob area where there is no shortage of crap on sale. Went with wife (to visit a friend from South). People very friendly, giving me food and water (declined).

Just stay clear of the area where speeches are being delivered, you will be fine.

Most peaceful demo I have ever attended.

It is very easy to stay well clear of the protest areas although around MBK it's a bit in your face.

Protest = people selling stuff lol

  10. I wouldn't drive thru Yala due to risks, simply other places to go. Why is the park so special?

Wife went to Thale Ban with friends, no treks but I was not impressed with photos. I'd like to get a kayak and get back in there, but overall, meh.

I was at Mu Koh Petra hq years back, but could not get a cheap longtail out to the islands.

Been to Tarutao few times as well as Adang, Rawi. Always wanted to hike bsck to the last "campground", never did. Now said to harbor mafia extorting money /labor from Rohinga boat people. So I guess that atea is no go.

I regularly visit and camp Andaman marine parks, often with wife.

  11. Figure I will buy a condonwhen I am +72 or when the market tanks. 72 would allow me to amortize the cost at 15 years so be net evrn to rent but own the place. Wife will have it rent free after I die and nieces can inherit it thereafter.

I throughly agree that there is abdolutely no limit to the amount of condos that can - and will be built in Thailand. That is what condo developers do.

There is so much land in Bangkok, little boxes for US100k is just folly. Some weeks ago was on bts passing Ari. There is just hectacres of broken and adandoned land within minutes of bts.

If land got crazy, crazy expensive, the govt could sell off its land and move the capital outdide BKK as well.

    There

    Is

    So

    Much

    Land

  12. You guys are smart, you know fx doesn't move without a reason. I never said it was going to be yesterday. But it is coming. You can also add the following:

    Over supply of office building

Intl stock markets due for a tumble (esp US)

Emerging markets money exiting intl markets

Again, Fed will unwind and this must push thb lower. New Fed chair signals new direction, already happening.

Intl investors as well as local will not loan Thailand money, perhaps at great interest - the govt is rudderless.

Tourist season good as over, poor showing and that will have to hold the big corporations till next year (watch for TAT "marketing campaign" aka cash infusion direct to large Sino-Thai hotel groups).

Then there is all last years rice - and this years rice (and the farmers at the gates demanding payment).

    We shall see.

What do you see strengthening the baht?

  13. Thanks for all that, quite informative.

Imafarang when you state no penalty, you mean you do not pay a price correct? You will lose all the interest, at least in the situations I know of in states although thete were at one in "no penalty cds".

In the end, still seems like it isup to Immigration. One year fine, next not fine.

I guess the upshot is that money sitting in a 2.4% acct -15% os abiut the same as the typical accout = 0.

  14. Not to hijack, is matriculating thru a few schools ever an issue? I have transcripts for all (open, sealed, photo copies)? Also diploma of course.

Education credits? How are these qualified? Not unit/credit but courses?

So, as it stands those only with a BA are no longer qualifed to teach under the (proposal) press release speculation a few weeks ago.

To the op, good luck persuing your Ed MA in rural Issan.
