  1. Thailand elite has no authority to say anything, if the IO stamped 1 yr you can stay up until the last day of that stamp. What Thailand elite says is irrevelant. They are just trying to make a sale. What they sold is a 5 yr sticker allowing you to enter Thailand and get 1 yr stamps each time. That's it. It's not a loophole, they just never considered thailand elite customers to be cheap and to use the program at 100%.

Yeah, that's a point, (I thought there was a Russian working in there years ago), I also believe they had a Philippina once too. I am pretty sure in Hooters they would have work permits. Plenty of dancing Russian/ Eastern European girls around.  I wonder what 'non reserved' category they fall under in Hooters.

They are not allowed but pay each time the police visits them.

I tend to forget stuff like that, had the same car and bike for a decade+, driving licence lasts 6 years and there is the option of a residence certificate from an Embassy. No denying I am sick to my back teeth from the 4-500 copies I have made of my passport and given to immigration over the years.

Driving license is for 2 yrs only on elite visa, I had to renew mine twice already and soon again ! I'm trying to sell the car instead, I hate these documents.

Where do you eat? I have only been served once in many years by a farang, but he's a friend of mine and just carried the plate 5 meters, but he's well aware of what he can do or not in his restaurant. As a farang you officially need a wp to be allowed to do any task in a restaurant or bar. This is a fact!

Restaurants where the owners are foreigners and the chef is a foreigner. Not going to give you a list to see the police arrest all of them. It's very common for farangs to serve food, thai people don't know how to smile to customers.

If you can avoid going to immigration, by letting TE take care of 90 day reports or doing them on-line yourself, and travelling out and back into Thailand at least once a year, to get a new one year Permit to Stay, you can skip the TM30 too.

And how do you renew your driving license ? Sell or buy a car and stuff like that ? I'm tired of this paperwork, so tired.

  6. Oh I just remember the story that one of my friends told me. He has a restaurant in Jomtien, his father came to visit him and his father was detained by the police for illegal work in the restaurant. When I asked what he was doing, he said nothing he just came to say hello to me in the restaurant before the opening. That's it. He didn't get arrested because of course he was holding a work permit, but his father just came from overseas to check on the restaurant and they arrested him for illegal work.

Why ? Because he was in the restaurant while it was closed and only employees are supposed to be there.

  7. This is how it goes, if Norway asks Thailand to find you they will and they will arrest you and deport you (you might even do jail time in Thailand for using stolen funds), your wife will also be arrested and jailed because she used stolen money and bought everything under her name. Seen cases like this in the news, it always goes the same way. Best thing to do for you is to stay in Norway, do the time and be free to do your life.

  8. I would never consider Thailand at 71... having to go all the time to the immigration for documents is a pain. And spending that much money on a visa... you would be better off spending it on health insurance and healthcare. If you are from Europe move to a cheaper European country like Greece, Romania, etc. No hassles for visas.

  9. Elite refused to do my 90 days report until I gave them a TM30 receipt. What a hassle. I will not be renewing my elite membership, as an elite member of Thailand these kind of things should be handled by them, not me. I don't care if it's the landlord responsibility or not, the elite staff should contact the landlord themselves and sort these things out.

ED Visas are better than the 5 year Elite for the short term. Overall the best bet for the long term is the 20 year Elite as soon as possible. The longer I delay getting a 20 year, the less covered years under 50 years old it covers me for.

You really believe you will want to stay here after 20 more years ? There is many other places in the world that would be happy to have retirees.

  11. Let's not forget the visa can be cancelled at any time if they presume you might have done something illegal (even if you didn't). There is that case from the spanish dude who was accused of rape, he had an elite visa and they cancelled it just after his arrest before he was proved guilty. That's a thing to consider, if you borrow that much money for a paper that can be cancelled if you are under investigation is going to be expensive.

Now I'm not telling you not to buy it, but this visa is for the wealthy people, not for those who need to take a loan to buy it. Thai immigration made this visa to attract rich people, not the common folks.
