  1. thanks Matt - fortunately according to our spend & save agreement - she has decided that she will put more aside into another account (actually a pringles tube under the bed :o for the gold that she intends to buy.... ive managed to get out of it - which has got to be a first :D

  2. Me!!

Its AWFUL, I tend to get it when im over tired or have drunk too much the night before.  I spend hours tying to get to sleep, and everytime I start to drop off, Im bolted up into sitting positions gasping for air and feeling like the end is near  :o

I used to have panic attacks (a result of my rebelious years of debauchery) and I wonder if it is related to that.

Ive experienced exactly the same thing on a few occassions - usually the night after a big night out...

  3. when i was in bangkok i used to crave those dried squid - and then one day i just went right off em, the smell turns my stomach now - the wife buys em here in england but we dont have a charcoal bbq so she nukes em in the microwave - which seems to intensify (spelling) that pungent smell :o

but i love fresh squid :D

  4. "I only buy HP laser printers at the university. Quality, reliability is great."

couldnt agree more - i work in a large hospital with about 3000 staff and about 2000 PCs.. all of our printers are HP for the same reason.

as for advice, not much to say - they all do the job its a case of which are cheaper to run in ink for the same quality...

  5. how long is she visiting you for?

this could be making a difference, if she's bored and homesick - but knows she's not here for long then my guess is that she'll be less enthusiastic about doing anything, knowing she'll be going back soon.

in my own experiences, both mine and a lot of mates thai wives are always reluctant to do or try something new and unfamiliar, at least untill they try...

take for example a group of us went to longleat safari park for the day... my mrs enjoyed the drive there more than anything else... but on another day out I took her on the pier @ weston-super-mare (which is really crap) for a go on the fruit machines and fish n chips wrapped in newspaper - and she raved about it for weeks!

I think you just need to try a few different things to find out what she likes - if she really isnt happy, your local thai food shop is a great way for her to chat to other thais, make friends etc - these shops often sell thai girlie magazines and DVD's.

    best of luck

  6. i dissagree  , its very easy to set up a company , 28,000 baht for company , and about 15,000 baht a year in taxs with the solicitors charges , thats for a 1 million baht holding company , designed just for falans to buy houses in there company name , no work permit required

,it al takes time but it is worth it when you consider land prices have doubled in the last 2 years and are still going up , i have a friend living in view tolay who was to scared to buy at 500,000 baht and now the same condo is worth 1,200,000 baht ,

Sorry poppa but what did i say for you to disagree with :o I never said how hard or easy it is setting up a company. I just said he needs to do more research before ploughing his money into something like this. Would you buy a house in Timbuktoo before actually going there to see what it is like? As for your friend, he doesn't need to set up a company to buy a Condo.

yep exactly - nobody has said anything about how easy it is to set up a company... the point was to visit the country before investing any commitment, financial or otherwise into it.

  7. Got this joke off a Scottish forum. Enjoy! :D  :D

The average Englishman, in his home he calls his castle, puts on his national costume - A shabby Raincoat patented by Charles MacIntosh of Glasgow, Scotland.

He drives a car fitted with tyres invented by John Boyd Dunlop of Dreghorn, Scotland.

At the office he recieves his mail with adhearive stamps which, although they bear the queen of England's head, were invented by John Chambers of Dundee, Scotland.

During the day he uses the telephone, Invented by Alexander Graham Bell of Edinburgh, Scotland.

At home in the evening he watches his daughter ride her bicycle, invented by Kilpatrick MacMillan, A Blacksmith from Dumfries, Scotland.

He watches the news on television which was invented by John Logie Baird of Helensburough Scotland and hears an item about the U.S. Navy founded by John Paul Jones of Kirkbean, Scotland.

He has now been reminded too much of Scotland and in desperation picks up the Bible, only to find that the first man mentioned in the good book is a Scot - King James VI - who authourised it's translation.

No where can an Englishman turn to escape the ingenuity of the Scots, he could take to drink but the Scots make the finest in the world, he could take a rifle and end it all but the breech-loading rifle was invented by Captain Patrick Ferguson of Pitfours, Scotland.

If he escaped death, he could find himself on an operating table, being injected with Penicillin, discovered by Alexander Flemming of Darvel, Scotland, and given an aneasthetic, discovered by Sir James Young Simpson of Bathgate, Scotland.

Out of the aneasthetic he would find no comfort in learning that he was as safe as the Bank Of England which was founded by William Patterson of Dumfries, Scotland.

Perhaps his only hope would be to get a transfusion of good SCOTTISH blood

  8. Once you've opened up the Windows Task Manager, select the Processes Tab.

Sort the list on either CPU or Mem Usage, from what you've said I would say its a Memory thing.

Clicking the Mem Usage will sort into ascending or descending - to make it easier sort into a descending list (biggest number top :o i think), highlight the process to see if it is the same process that is constantly jumping up and down the list.

Note: If you dont recognise the process and are worried about killing something that you think should be running by the system - type the process name into google to get some idea what its related to.

With the process highlighted click the End Process Button (bottom right).

This could be a simple case of needing a RAM upgrade - but if its just started happening recently its more likely to be something malicious. Do you run anti-virus, anti-spyware, do you have an "always on" connection and if so are you behind a firewall?

If you go to the top of the Computers and Internet Forum - youll find allsorts of freeware programs to download... if you dont already have it - zonealarm, spybot and ad-aware
