  1. 11. Shops don’t seem to stock any western size clothes I mean if you’re over 6 foot tall most of the shirts and basic clothes don’t fit.

I am 6'8 never had a problem, but again youre in a Asian country where the average height isnt much above 5 feet

jeezus - are you really that tall - are you sure you want to buy a tuk tuk - youll be grazing yer knees on every passing vehicle... :D

    sorry :o

  2. thats the thing about different countries...

    they're... different.

maybe you should have included a list of positives too - all you'll get from this post is flaming!

I for one would quite happily leave the cold approaching winter in the UK to live and work in Thailand, learning the language and accepting the thai way of life would be a price I would happily pay.

  3. bkkjames.
Well mate, I know 2-4 GM's of the hotels you speak of and I can tell you that a large percentage of female thai id cards get left with reception throughout any given night.

Large percentage ? Can you expand on that ? The three hotels in question have 1300 rooms between them. How many female ID cards do they witness left with reception a night ?

    1 or 2 i would imagine :o

  4. yeah - id be tempted to say "leave it till nearer the time" but given the time of year, I think we should be thinking about this sooner rather than later.... even more so if we were planning on eating somewhere....

of course being a bristol lad - eating is for losers (not that you'd know by looking at me) drinking rules!

  5. I'll certainly be there if i can - as i said the mrs is working and dont know what time she'll finish on the sat afternoon - which could make it awkward if its late afternoon - you know what they're like.

she's also having some trouble getting her head around driving an hour or so up the motorway to get loaded with a bunch of people we've never met before and then fork out for a b&b... bless her shes such a kii neow

    :o

  6. its a bit confusing without seeing the setup - but ill try to help

    http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~rakerman/port-table.html

is a list of tcp ports for internet services - assuming your using yahoo messenger webcam you will need to open port: 5100 on your firewall.

sorry its not a simple answer - if you are able to connect to and admin your firewall rules you should find something in there to create a new rule to allow "said" program to be granted access.

if still no good - grab your firewall/router info and google it!

  7. Hi everybody,

I applied for my wifes settlement visa to the UK on the 25th of October. We have just got a letter today telling my wife to come and see them between 1300 and 1400 monday to thursday. But there is no date! Is this for an interview or do they want to see her for something else? I cant ring them as its a friday afternoon, and Im a little worried.

Also they are asking for all our documents., but i have handed them in already.

Anyone any ideas? Its got me worried and I wont be able to enjoy my weekend!

    Scott.

Hi Scott - first off dont go getting yourself too worked up just yet.

I would imagine that the embassy would like to see your wife to straighten out some anomalies that they may have found in your application. This could be something quite simple or something that youve not included with your application.

The fact that they are asking for "all of your documents" isnt a good start... but this could be a simple mistake. How was the application made, did you send the whole lot by post to the embassy? or did your wife deliver in person?

Presumably before you/yourr wife handed in the application to the embassy you/she would have checked that everything was complete - i believe that theres a check list on the last page of the application form.

if not you can get all the docs needed at www.ukvisas.gov

In my case - my, then girlfriend, handed in the application and was asked back about a day or two later - id asked her to stay in bkk for a couple of days in case this happened before returning back to nongkhai.

She was asked a few questions about her family and several questions to confirm evidence that i had sent, and was then sent on her way.

About 2 days after she got home the embassy called her to say that a full interview would not be required as they were happy with our application and we were offered a short interview date after we were married.

In all her short interview was conducted at one of those counters in the embassy and took about the same time it took me to hastily smoke a cigarette. Job done - visa issued.

    hope this helps

enjoy your weekend - and start again monday - good luck

  8. Make the most of it cause i reckon in 5 years in the uk we wont be allowed to celebrate xmas at all in case it offends another religion. :D

daley i laughed at that first and then thought again

father xmas will become xmas person

reindeers will become golf buggies [green no emitions and non exploitation of animals]

all xmass trees to be plastic

and xmas person wearing a turban :D

then we will all have to go to thailand to celebrate a real xmas

    :o

    Seconded!

  9. john - to follow on from scouse - if youve not already been, take a read of the info on the uk visa website.

everything to help you decide what visa and how to go about making the application.

i followed the instructions on this site and had no problems at all to make the settlement visa - at the time i didnt know that TVisa existed.

    all the best

  10. I don't even know how to make myself "Anonymous". I click on the site and it logs me in automatically. I'll have to find out though, as Daleyboy say's "when i want to read Mertons posts but i dont want to be seen to be supporting his rambling <deleted>"  :o

"log out" before closing your browser window... that should do it, unless youve ticked one of those "remember me" boxes in Iexplorer...

then youll be free to bathe in mertons posts in privacy

    :D

  11. i know what you mean - id finish my language class at Thong-Lor, hop on the BTS to Asok and then have a strole down that bit of sukhumvit and stop in one of the roadside beer bars and watch life go by...

backpackers clutching 5bht bottles of water in one hand and a lonely planet in the other - studying the map so they can go get a photo stood in cowboy.

first timers fighting off the following of tuk-tuk drivers, taxi men and those guys selling peanuts, watches, sunglasses and novelty lighters.

farrang chaps sitting with their new found love, knocking back bottles of carlsberg like its going out of fashion... or being educated by the wise old expat barflies on how thailand has changed since they arrived back in the 70's...

seeing guys sitting out on plastic chairs on the pavement of sukhumvit road soi7 at 3am, ordering another large chang whilst finishing their kaow pad gung and reaching for yet another marlboro.

the smell of food cooking - the drains and tuk-tuk fumes in the air.... and i loved every minute of it!

  12. My wife has been in England for just over a year now, and I am in the midst of making sure that she has various things (mobile phone account, bank account etc) in order to show the Visa guys in London that we are still together and she is still registered at our marital address.

I understand that we have to renew her visa after 2 years of her being in UK - but my question is what are we renewing it with?

is it for another 2, 5 or 10 year settlement visa? or UK Citizenship?

If its Citizenship, is it safe to assume that she would need to pass the new "life in the UK" & "English" tests that have been in the news recently.

However, is it true that if my Thai wife took UK Citizenship she would lose her rights to buy land as a Thai National?
