  1. It's difficult enough to cross the road, even on a Zebra Crossing , Thais never slow down, they just seem to ignore the fact you are trying to cross the road.... Very dangerous..

As for Cycling, love it, but NEVER in Thailand, far too dangerous....

Oh dear, another person who should google - Thailand Cycling Events, to see how popular this sport is becoming here.

Dangerous? Not out in the countryside where I ride. In Bangkok? I would have to agree with you.

The 'PM' is right, it is one of the best types of exercise, and is particularly beneficial for those getting older. Just do it.

I am often up early to go to play golf, quite dark. There are many cycling groups around at that time, barely a light between them. Accidents waiting to happen.

Yes, it's good exercise but cycle lanes simply won't work here. Just another route for motorcycles traveling the wrong way.

If you can afford a nice bike, you can certainly afford the lights. Country roads all have a lane for two wheeled traffic usually 2 meters wide, if this isn't enough room for you, I don't know what is. Some motorbikes come the wrong way, but do so very slowly and don't expect cyclists to move out of their way. To be honest I find the heat more of a challenge than other road users. PS The cycle groups in my area won't allow people without lights or helmets to join them.

  3. Sexual voyeurs are sad timid misfits who run away when confronted. I wonder if there has ever been another case in the world where a peeper has slain in the most brutal and violent way possible the couple he was spying on.

And then inexplicably waited around with his two fellow murderers to be arrested for three weeks when they could easily have slipped away, Thailand has sunk to new depths of lies, corruption and injustice over this case.

At what point exactly does sexual arousal while furtively peeping on a courting couple turn into an explosive killing frenzy?

Google Elliot Rodgers, Zodiac killer, any number of killers. Hating or/and Killing a couple is not unheard of. Who knows what happen. Maybe the brits saw them and said something and a argument ensued.

Sure, but you listed serial killers. Three Burmese guitar players 'the size of hobbits' who are guest workers on a Thai island?

  5. The absurdity never stops here.

The TdF is run in France even if the occasional stage has veered cross neighboring borders.

The Grand Départ is regularly held outside of France - in 2012 it was hosted by Belgium.

One stage and then back on French soil. The idea of 9 hours of air travel each way for the fist stage

and then right into the 3 week race is utter foolishness.

A tour de Thailand run partly with the French tour operators might be possible,

If the locals listened to those with experience in these events.

The Tour de Thailand is already a yearly event. Google Thailand Cycling Events

  6. The original idea wasn't as stupid as it looked. Almost every year the TdF has a couple starting stages in another country.

Obviously, for logistic and sport reasons (think about the racers who would have to race jet lagged after a 10 hours flight) it will never happen in asia.

Yes, but those chosen countries have a very strong cycling tradition, and are also neighboring France, thus the race moves seamlessly into the main French stages. Thailand has almost no cycle racing history, although there is the 'Tour of Thailand' and amateur events such as the Tour de Farm. At the end of the day it sounds as ridiculous as Qatar hosting the World Cup.

  7. Can someone please have a word with these people, honestly,,,

Investing the money themselves will bring in more tourists as the safety of the island will be improved, therefore it will pay for itself. It makes absolutely no sense at all to ask the tourists themselves to pay for their own protection when this is something that the island should be doing anyway.

Unless of course it's just another Thai scam aimed at parting tourists with there hard earned cash.

In every country you pay big taxes but in thailand you don't.

Tourists benefit by not pay to much expense for good and services on the island and in thailand.

So if tourists want more protection they should pay.

    Its simple.

    Thais don't need the protection.

You are digging yourself into a dark hole.

If I am digging a hole why do you want to be here?

This is a paradox. Complain on everything in thailand but still want to be here.

You didn't understand my metaphor. But you do understand I hope that it is wrong to ask tourists to pay protection money against criminal acts by the local population? If you came to my country you would have exactly the same rights and police protection as people whose families have been there for 500 years. You should try to soften your extreme views on foreigners. They are not pretty.

  9. Tourists not big on military dictatorships, who`d have thought!?

Interestingly hotel prices are going up rather than down despite demand going down and supply going up. A couple of years back 1000 baht got you a decent 3* hotel in Bangkok whilst 2000 baht got you a 4* or even 5* hotel such as the Rembrandt where we always stay at when in town.

Looking at prices for our next trip the Rembrandt is 5000 baht a night!? Talk about making a bad situation worse! When we were last there is June there was about a dozen other customers.

Seems an odd name for a Thai hotel. Anything to appear classy I guess. Why don't you try places with names ending in inn, most offer clean rooms for 1000-2000.

  10. the key is

only Thai "police" have the DNA of the sperm - what if they do not use it to compare but use another ones DNA instead

    (who would be surprised?)

if this is the case why does the "powerful son" not just give his DNA sample?

Very suspicious they did not want FBI in the case

If he doesn't give DNA, and clear himself completely he is going to have people assuming that he did it for the rest of his life. Therefore his refusal to give DNA can only mean one thing, he and/or other family members are involved.

  11. He went to the kanman for protection???? Is this t he same on who offered 1Mio Baht as a reward for getting his family off?

    and police offered only 700.000

He (the village headman) offered 1 million baht if someone can prove him or anyone is his family to be guilty, NOT innocent. People seem to have this all backwards.

So, if someone can prove that his son is guilty, in this case, he will pay 1 million baht. If someone proves his son is innocent, no money will change hands.

Nevertheless, offering the police 1 million baht to prove one is guilty seems very "thai", overconfident, and suspicious.....

So why did they refuse to submit to a DNA test? Maybe they were not aware that such a test existed at the time that they offered the money. It seems rather obvious that the rapists and the killers are the same people, and all fingers are pointing at the head-man's son and a couple of accomplices. They should all be made to submit to a test.

The Beatles owe a lot to LSD. Never noticed that line about kicking Poe before.

  13. ..."he stated that there was no credence to the rumors that there were mafia in operation on the island"...

The deputy pm fits well into the investigation. There's mafia in all tourist destinations.

And then there's good old Panya: "He"..."was confident that the police have acquired all the necessary evidence to accurately identify the suspects." Again??? "All that remain was for at least two witnesses to come forward to make the case a solid one." That can be arranged. Where and when does he want them?

How utterly helpless the RTP are. It's not even hilarious, just terribly saaddening. Especially for the families of the victims. I will never ever go to Koh Tao.

Not ever going to Koh Tao because of this is ridiculous. Every Thai island has some form of Mafia so maybe you should just leave Thailand. It's still safer here than anywhere in Europe or the US...Heinous crimes happen everywhere...Corruption is also rampant everywhere.Perhaps the politicians and police are so good at it in the West that they haven't been caught yet!!!

Can't actually remember when two tourists were hacked to death on the beaches of Southern France or the Californian coast. Anyway you obviously think it is perfectly safe to go to Koh Tao with these maniacs still on the loose. Go ahead, make my day.
