  1. And a newspaper torn-up in to squares, hanging up on a string, to wipe your arsenal. My grandparents used the News of the World. Then they went posh and got Izal toilet paper.
  2. There were two old-fashioned sweet shops in my village. On the shelves behind the counters there were those big jars of sweets. Can someone remind me how did we buy them in the 60s and 70s: did we ask by weight or did we ask for something like tenpenneth?
  3. The wife saw these pics on her Facebook page. Male and female. Didn't say where.
  4. Thanks Crossy. Recently did my Marriage extension at Samut Prakarn. A few differences to Pathom Thani (and most likely other Imm Offices): · Photos – We usually do 1 x the family stood outside the house next to the house number (house – but no cars – visible in the background), 1 x dining room, 1x tv room and 1 x all 4 of us sat on our bed. Now they want photo of entrance to mooban. · Witness - Never been asked for a witness. · Home visit - Never had a home visit. · Money in Bank period – They usually tell the wife in Thai (they never mention it to me) to keep the $$$ in my account until I return to get the stamp in my passport, so we keep the amount untouched until I returned for extension stamp. On return to get the stamp in my passport, they never request to check the account (just pass over passport, comes back stamped). · TM30 - I’ve been using a copy of the signed slip of TM30 each year for the past 6 years (signed by Imm Off who added note of my subdistrict and repeat O application). New officers see it and are confused; regular officers accept it.
  5. Agreed. The reasons I keep to Marriage Extension and not Retirement is: Entitlement to work. I feel a bit more protected (if that’s possible) by applying to support Thai wife/kids than with Retirement. Maybe that’s a false perception, hopefully I never have to test it. Havingh to keep B400k in bank is far better than B800k I don’t feel that it is any more onerous to apply for Marriage Extension than Retirement, except I have to return to the Imm Off after 30 days with Marriage Extension (takes minutes to get the extension stamp) Another perception. Control of my application is by faceless people in BKK HQ and not by people I deal with at the Imm Off.
  6. Legal Brief – What You May Not Know About Thailand’s Work Permit (Less-Known Relaxations of Thailand’s Work Permit System) By Narit Direkwattanachai, a corporate, tax & trial attorney at NARIT & Associates [Seen on LinkedIn] Even if Thai work permit law has been amended to relax certain aspects of the permit system for some time, many foreign workers and their employers remain unaware of these positive changes. This legal brief will guide you through the key favorable developments. 1. No Work Permit Required for Unpaid Work or Jobs (i.e. Volunteer Work) 2. Greater Flexibility for Work Permit Holders with Permitted Job Descriptions 3. Changing or Adding Job Sites Without a Need to Notify the Department of Employment (DOE) 4. No Longer Required to Carry Your Work Permit at All Times 5. Fully Online Work Permit Application Process
  7. Retirement requires 800k for X months, and 400k all year. Required in Samut Prakarn?
  8. Speak for yourself, I love visiting thr various regions of Isaan.
  9. If you like Pattaya you should like BKK.
  10. Never applied for a retirement visa, but I don’t think there’s anything too difficult about the paperwork for a Support Thai Wife extension. Kor Ror form easy and cheap to get. Same map every year. Photos easy to do. Bank statement (at SCB) very easy to get. Wife’s blue book. Etc. Positives: Only B400k, and not B800k with Retirement. You can have a Thai Work Permit, can’t obviously on a Retirement visa. Negatives: You do have to visit a second time to the Imm office with a Support Thai Wife extension, but that’s only to get the stamp in the passport so doesn't take long. You get asked the same questions every year by the Imm off: where did you meet? When? Etc.😁
  11. I'm pretty sure that i exited and returned during the 30 day "under consideration" period on my re-entry permit.
  12. We don't want people to apply for their pension one year late, it's already difficult enough to get DWP to accept your pension claim and start paying 🙂
  13. Yes you can. The UK state pension age will increase from 66 to 67 between April 2026 and April 2028
  14. In case not clear, the bank account you will use for immigration purposes MUST be in your name only (no joint account with future wife). SCB is very easy to deal with to get the bank statement letter for immigration purposes. I've used 4 different branches in my area without any problems.
  15. Did mine yesterday at IMM Office, on the 7th day after the due date.
  16. Nope, never. Thais always been polite, friendly with me.
  17. Just looking at my 2024 online tax return form PDF, there are boxes to tick for (i) disabled person not over 60 years age and (ii) people over 65 years age (including disabled). Tick the box for the b190k deduction. The online tax form is simple, just tick boxes and fill in amounts in a few boxes, but is only in Thai language so you need a thai to help fill in the form. Don't know why but the Revenue Dept often reviews my (thai) wife's annual online tax form and request she provides substantiation of her claimed deduction allowances, while to date I haven't had any review requests, so they do check your form.
  18. The article mentions deductions or allowances which can be deducted from your work income or amount received from overseas, but it didn't mention the disabled / over 65 years old allowance. The wife, who does our individual income tax returns online, tells me there is a box to tick to claim this allowance, and from memory she thinks this allowance is additional to other allowances. Thai Tax Resident who is over 65 years of age or who is disabled is entitled to personal income tax exemption on the net income up to Baht 190,000 per tax year.
  19. The wife's friend took the photos from his garden in Koh Chang.
  20. Saw them butchering a dog in the street in China. Also saw people buying half a live fish with the other half thrown back in the tank. I was eating with Chinese friends who were sniggering, asked them what about, turns out we were eating cat stomach. All countries are different. The misconception about eating dog in Thailand and specifically in Sakhon Nakhon province, is hat it was the Vietnamese settlers that ate dog not the Thais. My wife remembers pickups driving through her village looking for people to 'sell' dogs. The going rate was 1 dog for 1 bucket in return.
  21. He probably thought you were a nosy <deleted>, and you were. You were lucky he didn't want to make an issue of it.
  22. Been many times over the years with wife and kids, but now just wife. Great accommodation due to the amount of Japanese factory workers in the area. Last week I stayed at S.Sri Racha but mostly at Oakwood. Mainly relax, shopping (Central) and visit local wats (no I'm not religious but I love the architecture and atmosphere, the wife prays). Visit Ko Si Chang. Short trip to Pattaya attractions when kids were young. Some excellent restaurants. It's great value for money, no crowds, and short distance to BKK.
