  1. US President Donald Trump has suggested Buckingham Palace is "setting a date for September" for his second state visit to the UK. The president told reporters in the White House on Thursday evening: "I was invited by the King and the country - great country." It comes after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer handed Trump an invitation letter from King Charles in February during his visit to Washington. Buckingham Palace is yet to confirm a date for the state visit. Trump was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II during his previous three-day state visit in 2019, which took place during his first term in office. Traditionally second-term US presidents are not offered a state visit and have instead been invited for tea or lunch with the monarch at Windsor Castle. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp8k5n33y41o
  2. US dollar shifting towards ‘risky’ currency status, analysts warn https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/e2c6893bcb8acccab87efbdb7c9c7de6?s=96&r=g By: Elliot Gulliver-Needham
  3. Dollar seen as risky currency status alert The US dollar is going through “a possible regime shift” that could leave it as a “risky” currency going forward, UBS analysts have warned. Even as volatility in financial markets has soared as a result of president Trump’s ever-changing tariff regime, the dollar has been sinking quickly, with the DXY index dropping four per cent since ‘Liberation Day’ to its lowest in three years. “This kind of price action is highly unusual in view of the dollar’s typical role as a key reserve currency that appreciates when asset markets are volatile,” said UBS strategist Shahab Jalinoos. https://www.cityam.com/us-dollar-shifting-towards-risky-currency-status-analysts-warn/
  4. Common Cooking Oil Ingredient Linked To Aggressive Breast Cancer Research suggests linoleic acid, found in common cooking oils, may increase the risk of aggressive triple-negative breast cancer. The study, conducted by Weill Cornell Medicine, revealed that linoleic acid may activate tumor growth by binding to the protein FABP5. In mice, a diet high in this omega-6 fatty acid enhanced tumor development. Published in Science, the findings point to linoleic acid's role in escalating tumour growth in triple-negative cells but not in hormone-sensitive types. This revelation could drive new dietary and pharmaceutical strategies. Experts are urging caution with seed and vegetable oils like soybean and safflower, typically found in numerous food products. Linoleic acid also occurs in pork and eggs, adding to dietary concerns. The study paints a complex picture: while the overall breast cancer survival rate stands at 90%, triple-negative cases drop dramatically to 77%. Dr John Blenis, a leading researcher, highlighted the importance of these findings in understanding dietary fats' impact on cancer. "This discovery provides clarity on the connection between diet and cancer," he said, emphasizing the need for personalized nutritional recommendations to inform patients' choices better. Interest in the research has surged, as it may offer a pivotal step in cancer prevention and treatment advancements. As the health community takes note, this study paves the way for further exploration into dietary implications on health. https://www.ndtv.com/science/omega-6-fatty-acid-common-cooking-oil-ingredient-linked-to-aggressive-breast-cancer-8188380#

  12. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom sued the Trump administration on Wednesday, challenging the president’s authority to impose sweeping tariffs that have set off a global trade war. The lawsuit argues that President Donald Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China or a 10% tariff on all imports is unlawful. The act enables a president to freeze and block transactions in response to foreign threats but doesn’t allow the president to adopt tariffs, the suit says. The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, also argues that enacting such tariffs requires approval from Congress. Trump has offered many justifications for increasing tariffs, including that they are designed to spur U.S. manufacturing and stop the flow of illicit fentanyl into the country. California’s move follows rapidly changing tariff plans by the Trump administration. https://apnews.com/article/california-tariffs-newsom-trump-trade-lawsuit-2a4ae0ba9e8360c4c894245100315b8b
  13. California becomes first state to sue over Trump tariffs California Governor Gavin Newsom has filed a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's spate of tariffs that have upended global trade. The suit, which marks the first time a state has sued over the levies, challenges an emergency power Trump cited giving him authority to enact them. California is the world's fifth largest economy - outpacing every US state and most countries - and is home to the largest shares of manufacturing and agricultural production in the US. The White House, which has argued the tariffs are tackling imbalances in international trade, dismissed the lawsuit and said it would continue addressing "this national emergency that's decimating America's industries". "Instead of focusing on California's rampant crime, homelessness, and unaffordability, Gavin Newsom is spending his time trying to block President Trump's historic efforts to finally address the national emergency of our country's persistent goods trade deficits," White House spokesman Kush Desai said. Newsom and the state's Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the lawsuit at a news conference at an almond farm - one of the biggest crops California produces. Nearly 82% of the world's almonds come from the Golden State. It's also the nation's sole producer of artichokes, figs, olives, walnuts and raisins. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp8vjer0882o

Investors dump US government bonds as faith in America falters BUSINESS Investors are dumping once-reliable US government bonds, sparking fears that major banks and traders are losing faith in America as a safe place to store their money.
