  1. Last spoke with a farang yesterday - a short 2-3 minute chat. I prefer to chat with some Thais, they seem more interesting than the constantly complaining expats I frequently encounter.
  2. God sent the Pope to save America, and the planet, from Trump, the GOP and MAGA.
  3. From my experience over the years - I just front up. If you arrive early-mid morning if a previous day's bank statement no problems; by if you arrive in the afternoon some IOs will ask for the current day's statement. And do not forget to deposit Baht 100 on the day you get the statement.
  4. You should do a bit more research. I have been there twice over the past decade - both times to take then Thai gf to some Ministry of Public health meeting/conference being held there.
  5. Do you really think that most (large) employers in Thailand care about workplace safety?
  6. A nice long thunder and lightening show last night around Hua Hin, and lots of rain in some. parts - my swimming pool's water level increased by about 4-5 cms.
  7. Agree with your post. Certainly a number of "tourist" establishments in Hua Hin are struggling and some have closed. Re gambling Thai wives, two of my close friends from my uni students days in Australia came to Thailand to work in the 1980s for a few years. Both couples were married in Thailand. One of the wives was a mall sales lady in Bangkok and the other a highly educated well paid professional. After both couples returned to Australia to live both marriages ended in divorce after a few years due to the wives' casino gambling addictions. Both friends told me that their wives would meet up with other Thai expats in Australia, and then go off gambling together.
  8. I had a similar problem (I think, from your description) in Australia. My local pool shop advised cleaning the plates by inserting them into a solution of hydrochloric acid, which I did about once a month, for about 10 minutes, for memory. Have your tried a Google search on this problem? It may provide more precise instructions than I can.
  9. He should have been kept in the hospital's ER for a few hours of observation.
  10. Hopefully other Thai cities will follow suit.
  11. Must be due to all the foreign tourists coming to Thailand.
  12. Maybe if the Thai citizens changed the government, then things might improve. But they tried that a few years ago, and the "system" killed the people's choice.
  13. "Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm" - maybe TAT could spend a few billion Baht fixing the "broken systems".
  14. Building standards and inspections? What are they?
  15. With all the negative international media reports of Thailand's failures, many Chinese are staying away. Spend money on fixing the "problems" in Thailand, then the tourists will return.
  16. One day Thailand may be respected again, but I suspect that day will not be soon. One big corrupt incompetent joke. The Thai people want change; want a better life; but the system continues to suppress the people.
  17. Why foreigners, why not Thais? No rich and/or influential Thais have criminal records, right?
  18. If my memory serves me correct (it may not) until last month, Thai school children were required to have 3 uniforms - school, sports and scouts. Did your kids, or grand kids, or when you were a kid, was there only one set of school uniforms; or was there 2-3+ sets, just in case the trousers/shorts/skirts, shirts, shoes, sox, etc. got dirty and could not be washed for the next day's school? I remember I had a clean shirt and sox every day I went to school; my mother did 2 clothes washings a week. And do not forget the school bag!! Then there are the school extras - educational trips to exciting places (shopping malls), historical sites, temples, etc.; all of which are not free. Then there is - "Mum, my teacher says I need an iPad, ......" Enough from me.
  19. More crap from, Putin. Putin knows that if he uses nukes, Russia is dead.
  20. This is nothing new, it has been happening for decades.
  21. In recent times (the last decade or so) China has reduced publishing some data when the data reflects badly on the Chinese economy. China has some big economic and social problems which it would prefer to hide.
  22. I am sure Dutton will soon ask Trump for a job.
