  1. Hi all , I am in between cars i.e. will be buying a new car soon . My current cars insurance has run out and so I am looking for insurance for about 1 month . I have Googled but cannot find a company that shows short term insurance . Anyone know of a company ?
  2. As per title , it would seem that Thailand is to stay on the red list for the UK despite the massive vaccination of its Thai population .Also fully vaccinated UK nationals will still have to quarantine in a UK hotel at a cost exceeding £2000 when returning to the UK . On the other hand Pakistan & Bangladesh will go on the green list even though they have only vaccinated 20% of their population with a double jab using amongst others sinovac and sinopharm vaccines . This update begins tomorrow 04/October 2021 at 4 00 am. Have to say that the UK government guidance is not an easy read and there is no reasoning made on its green/red listings decisions that I can find .
  3. Some farang people I know agree with the tiered admission charges saying that the Thai folks only earn a fraction of what a farang earns and the Thais have paid taxes by way of either earnings or purchases over many years and farangs have paid little or nothing and it was wrong for farangs to get the same charges as the local Thais . So I said if that is the case why are the farangs charged the same price for general purchases e.g. motor fuel or 7-11 buys ? Basically it is racial discrimination that is a crime in most democratic countries . Near where I live is a swimming pool that advertises Thai prices and finally farang prices , on a large billboard . For me , I pay the normal Thai price or nothing . They lose out because had I paid the same entry fee as a Thai and was allowed in , I would have spent quite a bit on refreshments / restaurants and mementos etc . But the Thais are so short sighted they cannot look more than 5 minutes into the future . Finally all embassies should be informing their citizens of the Thai culture of charging foreign tourists a highly inflated price for either goods rendered , or entrance to an attraction and also hospital fees etc
  4. Well that will exclude the majority of foreign tourists , also where is the info on the multi tiered admission charges that have recently been sanctioned by an Administrative Court in Phetchaburi ?
  5. So to cope with the predicted increase of tourists due to the reduced 7 day quarantine , will the authorities allow farangs to use inter-provincial buses and flights , indeed bring back buses to provide a reasonable service and reinstate flight routes . Also not forget that after you have finished your quarantine and maybe travel to a village , it is quite likely that the head of the village will want you to do another session of inhouse quarantine . Sandbox details neglect to mention this .
  6. You have not factored in the UK restrictions for both going to and returning from Thailand . OK I only speak about the UK but they are significant numbers and have real tourists who spend money unlike some of your cheap Charlie all inclusive window shopping Asean tourists .
  7. So it must be domestic flights only going from Bangkok to Phuket ? How does that make any sense or are they cargo only flights ?
  8. Not trying to boast but in the UK I had 3 Jags at various times and also a RR . I also had a small Fiat that cost me £300 ( lasted 12 years ) and was used for Shopping at Sainsburys etc because some people are careless when opening their car doors and hitting your car and walking off regardless . Also if using my best car and having to use a stores large car park , I would park out of the way and furthest from the store . Can you believe the amount of times I returned to my car to find a rust heap parked next to me and in complete isolation from the rest of the parked cars .
  9. Yes and only 4 international flights arrived but had 12 flights from Bangkok . So is it OK to fly to Bangkok and then transfer on a domestic flight to Phuket etc ?
  10. To lockdown or not , that is the question . Damned if you do damned if you don't . Nearing reality and the truth I think because Thailand has no proper social security and remains focused on the top tier of its society . If there had been a safety net with the Thai government prepared to help its citizens by similar means as the majority of the world , that would have provided a solution but as things stand they only have one throw of the dice . With covid here to stay the Thai government need to reassess the situation and maybe dilute the tourist dependant Thai workforce .
  11. Oh come on , it is / was many times better than the ASQ, being imprisoned in a room ( sometimes without windows and food left outside your door 3 times a day ) . Current restrictions and the current rate of covid infections will have an effect of course . If the Thai government cannot somehow create a way of income for the out of work tourist dependant Thai workers , they will be facing some serious dilemmas .
  12. Sandbox failed ? Depends from which perspective you are quoting from i.e. The expat returnees no longer imprisoned for 2 weeks in a Bangkok hotel and treated like lepers but instead allowed to walk around outside to the beaches etc of Phuket . Is there another country offering this service ? The Thai authorities are well aware of the restrictions imposed by other countries for foreign travel e.g. the UK and I doubt that residents from the UK are to be expected to tour Thailand any time soon . It is however my belief that there are serious concerns from the Thai government because of the unknown amount of Thai people out of work , without money and probably surviving on charity from family and friends . By opening the SHA resorts , reducing restrictions and hoping the return of tourists soon to give employment to Thais , is really their only hope apart from a dip into the Thai foreign reserves to subsidise this growing national disaster. Desperate people do desperate things to survive.
  13. I stayed 15 nights in Karon Phuket at the Sugar Marina 4 star hotel for 9400 baht , repeat 9400 baht for 15 nights and the room was first class with top quality white cotton bed sheets , very comfortable bed , bathroom had a bath and choice of overhead rain shower or wall shower , free water , soft drink like coke or fruit juice plus chocolate biscuits , coffee and tea all replenished every day . Amazing helpful staff who took me around the area in the hotel car for free . My room opened out via sliding doors to a small terrace with table and chairs and then directly into the large pool . So my sandbox experience was one of value for money . I believe the hotel was heavily discounted and I booked through Agoda . I had some correspondence with the hotel i.e. they booked the Sha class taxi from the airport to the hotel and they were always quick to answer my emails , also took me to the pcr covid testing venues . I highly recommend this hotel . Downside , not much to do but I found a restaurant that also served me beers in a glass tankard and food was reasonable . Most expensive cost was the Thai Air flight from Heathrow direct to Phuket at £640 one way ( I have a non o retirement visa with a re-entry permit )
  14. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of Phuket's covid stats regarding nationalities of the sandbox arrivals who have tested positive for the covid virus and also for the general infection figures . If , as I suspect , it is the local Thai workers who are the most infected , it will come as no surprise because the initial concept stated that all Phuket workers must be vaccinated but that said , one jab of sinovac qualified as fully vaccinated .
  15. Hi Pagallim , If your quote from the BMJ is accurate ( no reason to suspect otherwise ) , the under the skin vaccination of 200,000 + people is not only a complete waste of time and against the vaccination procedure it is putting people at risk from the effects of using the wrong vaccination recommended method . I am truly astonished at what is happening in Phuket . The outside world ( especially the UK ) will be thinking what the xxxx are the Thai medics doing ? Any recent progress in vaccination numbers achieved has been wiped out by this event , along with any recently gained credibility . You would have thought that before taking the new under the skin method , Thailand medical chiefs would have sought endorsements from the WHO . They are becoming a laughing stock because all they are concerned about is getting as many people inoculated with anything , as quickly as possible in order to tell the world Thailand is fully vaccinated and we are open for tourists . What could possibly go wrong ?
  16. I have had a 2 year and 5 year licence and never had to watch a video but I think that this is the new way to apply for a new or renewal licence using the DLT eLEARNING app to your phone ( hope you have a good signal for an hour or more ) or pc etc .
  17. so I watched the video , answered the questions and they tell me I have passed . I take it that the queue number is the number under the passport number cos that is the only number on the cert . I have deleted my pp number with xxxxxxx Training passed Passport no. xxxxxxxxxxx Has successfully the renew training Private driving licence On 23/09/2564 This certificate will expire in 6 months from the training passed. You may screenshot the certificate and save the queue number via DLT Smart Queue Application.
