  1. I think a lot of us know that it's a hotbed for some nasty groups, but I think it is up to Saudi Arabia to take the lead on this situation.

I see you have been fairly prolific in posting in a lot of these threads and it should be obvious that quite a bit of the world, doesn't want the US to meddle in the affairs of others. This looks like a good place to start.

Perhaps some of those critical countries can help out with whatever problems develop in the region.

Sorry to advise you but the material wealth neighboring countries are way to busy commissioning their new yachts and designing their gold plated 777's.

  2. I don't like to say much about places which I haven't got some first hand knowledge about, but from what I have heard when I lived in the region, Yemen is a very backward country.

It's sad to see any place and any group of civilians face military conflict, but for most Western countries I wonder what is the importance of Yemen, other than it seems like a breeding ground for some not-very-nice groups of people.

Would the news be that it's a hotbed of Al Qaeda and ISIS and the US decided to pull out its representatives?

Would this be of concern to Saudi? This is only about 400 miles / 650 kms from Mecca.

If it would be a nucleus of terrorist recruitment and training. Why would the U.S. pull out????? They should just hit the place with everything they got. SPLAT

  3. America needs to show some tough love with this recalcitrant spoiled brat child of a country.

Stop the non-military funding. Stop the military funding that doesn't get spent in the US.

Stop UN SC vetoes made solely on Israel's behalf.

Show them who's boss. The Whitehouse or AIPAC?

And then Israel's enemies will take this as a free fire zone. Good thinking genius. The no minds bordering it will cause another massacre as they are fair weather fighters ready to play cowboy and Indians for the summer and be slaughtered as usual.xmfr_closed1.gif.pagespeed.ic.UuJWYpOV2u

  4. These ill gotten gains will be sold to people who will use their ill gotten gains to pay for them.

Commendable point but impossible to implement... we all should hope that by this action and the

fall from grace and power of the mighty errant gate keepers, should serve a s a lesson to others

who also intended to go down that road of misdeeds to heed the lessons learned from this case...

( yeah right, whom am I kidding?)

I haven't really been following this saga, but the cynic in me can't help wandering whether he fell from grace because he was an "errant gate keeper" or because he found himself on the wrong side and didn't move fast enough.

    Bagman.....

Just holding the ill gotten gains for his cronies who promised they have to make him a scapegoat and then when all is said and done his sentence will be quietly commuted to life of being a good person on a Government pension and only one state owned home....thumbsup.gif

  5. These ill gotten gains will be sold to people who will use their ill gotten gains to pay for them.

Or maybe they will be purchased by honest people who have made a decent living and wish to take advantage of an opportunity to buy something that you could never buy because you've spent your life concocting irrational negative reactions to absolutely everything.

Huh? What? Nonsensical quote if ever I have read....bah.gif

  6. i am going to make assumptions, no apologies in advance. Depression cannot usually be fixed by, "just get over it" statements. Medical help is needed. But I think we all know we might be a little depressed, so, for the sake of your life, do something about it. Quit complaining about everything, and really reach out to professionals. I also think getting outside is great, exercise is great, and try to look forward to something. i know money issues are harder to fix, but i'm pretty sure money isn't the only problem. i know tons of people with money who are super depressed, but they are in counseling.

anyhow, ask yourself honestly if you are really depressed. google symptoms online. then, for the sake of youself, do something about it.

Scientology will fix any mental problems.cheesy.gif

  7. I find Aussies that "hang around" Thais more fun and youthful than Aussies that "hang around" Aussies; within their same age-group.

I believe it reflects on their physical health.

Having said that, when the "shit hits the fan" as it will do as we age, they soon retreat to the Aussie health system... Can you blame them?

Not many 90 year old farangs in Thailand, but a lot of happy 70 year olds.

There is a certain one drug available in the country that will slow down metabolisms therefore prolonging the aging process verses one that will speed it up.

  8. It actually rained most of the night here in Bangkok. Exciting stuff huh?

It settles the dust and freshens the air, the gutters fill briefly with water and redistribute the grime..... It's good for the garden and the Mosquitos love it biggrin.png

Now how would you know that??? Google street view I guess considering you admitted to not living here in a previous post

  9. In my experience it comes down to the management of the condo. I personally stay away from Thai company managed condos. Those managed by foreign companies with a demonstrated history do the job well and I have little concerns. Those managed by Thai companies, well there are just too many stories whereby the money is never recovered or not allocated to repair and maintenance as described.

Just my 2 cents and observations over the past 4 years living in condos myself.

Condos are managed by the share holders IE owners. You are one so I don't know what your talking about Thai or foreign managed companies unless they have all the individual owners voting shares by proxy

  10. It's no guarantee but I would buy a condo built by one of the large, respected, publically traded, Bangkok builders--Sansiri, Lumpini, SC Asset, Supalai, etc. They are in the business of building and, more importantly, selling condos. We used to live in a condo in Pattaya built by a private owner and they owned so many unsold units that they could control the condo board and the budget since they could outvote everyone--and they did. Not a good situation. Suggestions for improvements went in one ear and out the other. Richer than God and really not that concerned as to whether they ever sold the unsold condos or not. I'd avoid a family operation like that. A condo that has a hotel component with a respected hotel like Marriot or Amari might also be a consideration as they might maintain things better.

Hope you have fire insurance because a builder with as many unsold units and not caring about that as you say: has ulterior motives and you better watch out for what that might be..

  11. Sometimes the management of a condominium wants to make improvements and try to raise the money by increasing the management fees, but are unsuccessful.

The problem is that at a General Meeting 50% of the total voting rights are needed in favour of the proposal to increase the management fees and at a second General Meeting, called within 15 days of the first meeting, one-third of the total voting rights are needed in favour of the proposal.

At many condominiums these percentages can never be achieved. Often, there are not even 50% and one-third of the voting rights represented at the meetings, respectively.

So the management can never find the funds to do repair work and the buildings fall into a state of disrepair.

The problem could be solved by an amendment to the Condominium Act reducing the percentages of voting rights needed. There was a reduction in 2008 by Condominium Act Nr 4 from 75% to 50% for the first meeting and from 50% to one-third at the second meeting, but these reductions have been insufficient to get the votes needed.

If repairs are needed and voted in my the majority present then the total ownership should be on the hook equally for the costs with an owner not anteing up foreclosure could be the final result with liens on his shares.

  12. Im aware of condos near me in Phuket that originally sold for 7 million baht 9 years ago

Recently a package of 2 were sold for 4 million - for both!

An ongoing war between the ego-maniacal Thai lady landowner who aims to rort the body corps funds and indeed control it altogether , and the residents , has seen one of the lovely pools emptied , and the tropical rot setting in

Its a poor investment , and is probably indicative of the greater condo market as well

Don't have a clue what you might be suggesting here???? There is no single land owner in a Condo Corporation and where is the board members made up of Condo owners in this great price reduction and dereliction of maintenance upkeep. If she is the owners board leader then vote her out and charge her with embezzlement.

  13. Is you info coming from sources as TAT or ATTA ? If not, can you refer the source ?

The source of my info, in the original initial post, are friends who are in business in the specified cities or it comes from friends who have visited the specified city and have talked to business owners of bars, restaurants, and local travel shops that have local tours.

cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifw00t.gif Thought as much. Total B.S. opinionated Bull crap stated as fact.bah.gif

  14. I guess the OP may be referring to the story yesterday in the Bangkok Post which claimed tourists are now flocking back to Thailand and that tourist arrivals in January increased by 16%, despite the number of Russian visitors declining by 46%.

The story quoted stats from the Department of Transport - http://newdot2.samartmultimedia.com/home/details/11/221/24246 - who claimed that the figures represented "international tourist arrivals".

However, I'd bet that these stats probably only refer to international arrivals - rather than them being actual 'tourists' - which would be quite different. The stats put out by the Department of Tourism could also include business travellers or those transiting through Suvarnabhumi.

You only have to look around the popular tourist spots and read reports in other sections of this forum about just how quiet it is in places like Phuket and Pattaya currently. It's hardly a case of tourists flocking back.

Your stating arrival stats the OP is making reference to reports he got of DEAD tourist zones in country.
