In regard to this thread's video, the rule of law and rule of the road appear quiet different. He did what I see every single day here and nobody bats an eyelid.

Will the speed limit still be 80kph or will it be upped to 120? I used it over the new year (December) and driving 80 was painful on a pretty much empty straight road. Did anyone use it during Songkran who can inform if they now have speed cameras on it?

It's a joke to say they're okay with open relationships. How many news stories do we here about the wife attacking her husband for cheating? You'd get your balls chopped off for doing that. Are the Russians really that bad here or are people just venting? I don't have any experience with them here, hence the question, but I lived with some Russians in the UK and they were nice straight talking people.

In general I agree with what you have said in this thread, but I think some people do care, hence the go fund me donations. You get sweet FA in return for your donation, but you do it to help others. My wife regularly gives small amounts to people with injured animals too. There's zero recognition for doing so and it doesn't help our lives. I know the thread is about tipping, but tips and donations in my mind are very similar.

Good point. I also tip singers around 100 baht. Even when doing karaoke in larger groups some Thais like to tip. I got just under ฿1,000 in tips last time I did karaoke, but normally I'll get about 200.

I use it at least every other day. It can be a short beep if I want them to pay attention to something, traffic lights for example, and a longer beep if someone caused me to slam on my brakes or avoid an accident. Other times, like in Paya Thai last week, I started with a short beep and progressed to a long beep as a driver decided to park next to the sky train line to let a guy out of the car. What should have been a 10 second drop turned into about a minute. Oh and when driving in hilly regions I beep my horn to let cars know there is someone coming in the opposite direction round blind corners. That's what they do, so I now do so too.

There is an app in playstore called 'Traffic D เดือนด่าน' which could help, not with a lawyer, but Thais report check point locations to warn others. It will highlight them in Google maps for you if you can't read the location in Thai. As others have said though, it makes little sense to drink drive in Pattaya when there's taxis available. Rather than drink drive, I prefer to stay at a cheap hotel near where I'm drinking and drive back in the morning instead.

It's impossible to say the time due to other factors such as weight and food intake. Generally though it considers the number of beers within an hour and then you subtract 0.1 for every 40 minutes of drinking. He looks quite short and not very well built so I'd guess 160lbs. He could have had 5 small beers (33cl) in 2.5 hrs and get that reading. I don't blame her as such, but I'm not happy with her sense of entitlement. It just shows how addictive the vape can be. Many seem to be as addicted to vaping every 20seconds as they are having their phone in hand at all times. Not good for their lives at all.

The police pulled me over for going through a red light in Bangkok. It was at a raised railway crossing where the light was before the line, but by the time I got over it I saw a red light 30m ahead. As I felt I was in the middle of the road, and that I couldn't reverse back onto the railway line, I floored it. Police pulled me over a few meters further down the road. I'm always extra vigilant if I drive that way to Bangkok now (near Phaya Thai).

I didn't initially catch your sarcasm, but I rarely see westerners getting any kick out of all the blood and gore. The Thai news on the other hand... I personally watch videos like this and ones with road rage to remind myself to slow down a bit and take it easy on the roads.

A thrill? Seeing random people being taken out is not a thrill. It reinforces how dangerous the roads are here and I feel fortunate that I was not in that mux/ fortuner. I am also glad that 18 wheeler was OK as that could have become really ugly on the other side.
