14 Provinces Affected by Earthquake, Relief Efforts Underway
alien365 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Thailand News

Naturally news tends to focus more on the bad rather than the good. I shake my head in disbelief at what some people get up to here. I then think I'm glad that I don't live in an area with people like that. When I see the bickering start, I usually go to another topic, but sometimes it amuses me with some clever or amusing responses. One thing I'm glad about is that they have stopped with all those Vloggers. I just want to see the news, not someone making the news about them. If the forum continued in that direction, I wouldn't look at it anymore.

To me, it's not about being happy or fulfilled, it's about finding out what is happening around the country. I think it is a good source of news. I get the newsletter every morning, skim through the headlines and see if there's anything worth reading about. To avoid a lot of bickering I simply don't read the comments when it's relating to things like US and Thai politics. Also, as soon as I see Thai basher or Thai apologists being mentioned, I usually stop reading as I expect the threads will go south.

Table tennis is a great sport though to get rid of some frustration. At the same time, it can also make a week worse if not playing well. Completely up to you of course, but if you're playing 3 times a week you may want to consider buying some better rubbers/blade that suit your game. I don't play as much now as I used to, but I use Tibhar Evolution MX-P on my backhand as it blocks effortlessly and the more power people give me, the more feeling I get. I use Nitaku fastarc G1 on my forehand as I love the biting point for the topspin. It gives me confidence that the ball will arc when I topspin and that I can control the height over the net (It's useless for driving though). My blade is an Innerforce ZLC by Butterfly, which provides excellent feel for my style of play.

What blade and rubbers do you use?

Fill the logbook using pencil rather than pen too, is what the dealer told me on my first new car here. With my second new car I'd already assimilated with the culture and simply didn't care anymore. I drove at any time of the day in multiple provinces through police checkpoints etc

Thats how I felt for over 10 years on this site too. There comes a time (for me anyway) when you just can't be bothered with some people anymore. At times I enjoy reading some of the bickering between posters, so my block list is very short.

why make things more difficult yourself? I've blocked one person and the forum is a lot better for me to read due to this. That person is not offensive, but it's like he's on one lifelong acid trip. I can't be bothered with the jibberish he posts every day.

DNP Toasts New Alcohol Rules for National Parks
alien365 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Do the national parks currently enforce the no alcohol rule? Do they search bags or spy on people? -
Jealous Ex-Lover Shoots New Boyfriend Dead in Ratchaburi
alien365 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Central Thailand News
What are you talking about? She was likely cheating on him for some time based on how quickly she went to the new guy. He likely killed her to defend his honor (in his mindset, which is not uncommon here). She didn't play the game smartly. At least let the air cool a bit before bringing the new guy into the equation. -
Jealous Ex-Lover Shoots New Boyfriend Dead in Ratchaburi
alien365 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Central Thailand News
I'm not defending the killer but the woman didn't need much time to hop from one man to another did she. It sounds like it was premeditated to dump the boyfriend and get with the next guy the day after, meaning she'd likely been cheating on him. Both elements means a huge loss of face. -
British Influencer's Buddha Tattoo Sparks Thai Cultural Debate - video
alien365 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It was my understanding from Thai tattoo artists in Bangkok that they will do Buddha tattoos above the waist, but not below. Naturally some people (netizens) will take offence at anything. -
Makes sense. Everyone is looking after their own interests. The morality of being top dog no longer stands for much.

Lifting Alcohol Restrictions Could Boost Thai Economy by Billions
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm waiting for those who brag about flying business class all the time to explain these numbers. As a cattle class passenger, I don't get it. -
Thailand's PM Urges Interest Rate Cuts To Boost Economy
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think the current interest rates on mortgages are hurting a lot of people. It's ridiculous how much of the payments are interest. -
We get it. You used to play volleyball at a decent level. I get the feeling that you are a good guy, but you're rubbing people up the wrong way, especially when asking for advice. Hence my concern about you working with children. Regarding your initial question, I have no idea, but if you can help the students, I honestly wish you well. As Impulse said, people do volunteer for altruistic reasons, which I'm all for.

Did you have a work permit for the work you mention there? If your gonna get all touchy with posters who have valid concerns and even one who defended you then I'd also not want you working with children in a sporting atmosphere.

Thailand Steps Up Enforcement on Illegal Foreign Teachers
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I seem to be the odd one out as I see many Thai English teachers now who can speak good English. They can't write it very well, but in the other three skills I've seen a lot of improvement over the years. -
Can Foreign Tourists in Pattaya Expect Fair Legal Treatment?
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
The fact I can see what is going on in front of my eyes is why I'm so surprised by your acceptance of a two tier justice system. Sure some foreigners are causing problems, but the majority of laws broken are by the host population who know the law a lot better than tourists do. -
Can Foreign Tourists in Pattaya Expect Fair Legal Treatment?

I think you need to up your meds if you think that relating to the laws of a country. -
In Case You Missed it, the Tattoo Fad is Over
alien365 replied to Walker88's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Ive had one for about 15 years and want another two. The only reason I've not got them is the price. Based on the cost of living here, they should really only be about 10k each. That's a pretty good amount for one day if you ask me, but I'm not paying 3k per hour. -
Thai PM Considers Easing Alcohol Sales Rules to Boost Tourism
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My understanding was that before midnight, the customers buy the alcohol that they want for the remaining few hours Technically they are not selling after 12 this way. Usually the promotions help with this when you buy 3 beers for 200 baht or something like that. -
It would be nice if they put up some signs. There are none. For the last 4 weeks at around 8:30 am I've driven 60, based on what I'd read here. I've never heard motorists use their horns there apart from the tuk tuk pip pips, which are not really an issue IMO.

Foreign man attacks Phuket woman for honking while crossing road
alien365 replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
She really did herself no favours. I used to get told quite often to not honk my horn at others here. I only do it now when some tool is not moving at a traffic light as they are looking at their phone. She's Thai, she should know.
