  1. Is it me, or are the hotel prices in December and November significantly higher than in other years. I got a quote from the big hotel on Kata Noi, and the price is 2 times than what I remember it was. Marriott around Christmas is more than a 100k for 3 nights for a family room. Better stay home and travel in March?
  2. Looking at the pm2.5 maps show you that most smog comes from the surrounding, agricultural provinces. Even in Phuket we had some smog this week coming from Myanmar and the Thai provinces in the east. Smog travels over hundreds of kilometers. Stop the slash and burn farming,, the burning of household rubbish and the pm2.5 problem is nearly gone. An inconvenient truth if you keep in mind which companies profit from this pollution.
  3. Its a comedy show, Thailand has no choice seen the huge percentage of NPL's and consequent properties owned by its banks. Either sell to the international market,or face a banking crisis.
  4. Immigration has a lot of personal information on us, including bank account details, photos of family members, passport details, etc... Very risky
  5. Yes, you are right. Your last sentence, however, should not serve as an excuse. It happened under his watch, and he needed to take responsibiliy out of respect for the families of those killed. And that is what he didnt do, actually his bully boy Samak made some disrespectful and erronous remarks to cover his derriere.
  6. It happened under your watch, which makes you responsible. You should have taken responsibility and offered your resignation.
  7. Could it be that the 2 beer producers are handing out enormous 'contributions' to secure their monopolies? One would be tempted to think so.
  8. Institutional corruption has eroded the country economically and socially, almost to the point of no return. 1 step forward, 2 steps back, seems to be the narrative. . A total overhaul of governance, local and national (including police and army), is needed, but imposdible without a massive uprising, Im afraid.
  9. Lot of pollution in the rural provinces around Bangkok. Sugarcane harvesting started again? Hua Hin and Chaa-am are also experiencing code red. But keep ignoring the white elephant in the room, farmers setting their fields on fire so that the big corps keep their profit margins.
  10. I have travelled every square inch of this country on my motorbike over the last 20 years, never had a scratch, but this road, and exactly this curve, was almost my end. I somehow slipped and ended up in BKK hospital with 53 stiches over my face. I still do not understand what went wrong. I dont drink, wear a helmet (!!!), and my bike is tip-top. I stil think someone hit or clipped me. Seeing these photos make me shiver. I haven't used my bike since, as I dont understand how it happened. This road is crazy dangerous. Time for a tunnel or new road.
  11. This year more rain than other years. Raging downpours, scary.
  12. Not sure if the insurance will cover flood damage. I hope so, if not then so be it. Cant argue with nature. The amount of rain that came and is still coming down here is enormous. Glad that we postponed buying a new car till next year.
  13. Bang Tao South flash floods, our car in 1 meter of water. Gonna cost me a fortune. Hell of a rain the last 2 days.
  14. Pick up trucks driving 80km/h in the Moo Ban, soi dogs, yaba crazed idiots walking around, electric wires everywhere, abuse at schools, dangerous playgrounds, if any, and so on.. Thailand is not a country for kids. Let them stay home and play Roblox. My wife pictures a different country when she describes her childhood, she played outside with friends.
  15. The question is 'who benefits from this'? I strongly doubt Russia would blow up their supply pipelines, as they can control whats going through.
  16. Try to take a morning stroll on the beach, with packs of dogs going after you. I carry a big stick and send them flying if too close.
  17. One step forward, 2 steps back has always been the political narrative in the 20 plus years I've lived here.
  18. 66 million Thais divided by 3 years Covid multiplied by 0.6 (60% of population) equals an average of 36,000 new cases a day. Is this correct?
  19. Lot of accidents in Khao Lak. There are no footbridges that tourists can use to cross the Petkasem highway.
  20. The pictured climb at Ao Manao can only be done on national holidays. You could climb the temple stairs (tough), but be prepared to be attacked by hungry monkeys.
  21. Thailand is already colonized by the wealthy family clans, who own 70% of the county's wealth. By continously playing the xenophobic card, the wealth gap has silently grown to be one of the most unequal in the world. Thai eat Thai. It's the super rich that dont want to share their extreme wealth with either the local Thai or foreigners. Thats why most xenophobic remarks, made by authorities, is only serving the rich Thai families. The price of land has gone up a couple hundred percent over the last 10 years, and its not the 'Ai Farang' driving up the prices. We sold some land the other day, bought in 2008, at a 1,200% margin. Sold to Thais! We get regular requests to sell more, but won't. Cash or liquidity is vaporizing.
  22. Is this an incident, or is society reaching boiling point? A bit of ganja would mellow people down, and if a customer refuses to pay his bill, go to the police.
